We arrived hopeful because the restaurant itself is very Thai and pretty, but unfortunately the standard of food and service wasn't as good. The staff weren't very enthusiastic at all and didn't make the meal any better. We traveled all around Thailand and this is the only bad meal we had!! Firstly one of our dishes never arrived and they... More

Best Tum ma khua (eggplant spicy sald), best tum khanun (jack fruit spicy salad), fried chicken, Kanom Jean Nam Ngew (rice nooldes with northern Thai curry). Very cheap, the portions are small. So much fun to order almost everything they have and share. they can be very busy and the wait can be long. always go back.

The Huen Phen was one of those Northern Thai restaurants which were recommended in our guide book. That's why we went there for dinner; it turned out to be a mixed experience. There are in fact reasons to go there: The ambience is quaint, bordering on crazy; to call it overdecorated would be a great understatement. That makes this restaurant... More

The food is really great, tasty authentic and varied. The plates are very small (recommend three each) but very cheap. Will be going back

I came here because i ask my room mate where i can eat a traditional local food. She told me about this place very popular here. No difficult to find it situated in the middle inside the old town. Simple restaurant with indoor terrace. I tried Kao soi, Laab moo, thai sausage with sticky rice. Very spicy but very tasty.... More

I don't typically judge restaurants in Thailand by their rice, because on balance it is abundant and fresh. We ordered several Northern style dishes at Huen Phen - what they are known for - and they were fine, at best, but the sticky rice was clearly not fresh. This just shouldn't happen at a restaurant in Chiang Mai that specializes... More

I wanted to go along during the day in the other side for the day time menu which is slightly different. The dishes I went for was, aeb pla (แอ๊บปลา) Gaeng ho (แกงคั่วโฮ๊ะ) Khao Ngiaw All very nice and... More

No English spoken. Really dirty and rotten food. They try to disguise the bad food with tons of spice. Stay away.

Delicious food served fast with no frills. The menu has photos to guide you and the portions are generous and cheap. Located in a side street opposite a school, it's also a chance to see the locals going about their daily business.

Visited 6 years ago and liked it. What a disappointment this year. I fell cheated. Watery curry, small portion. Plain rice for 25 Baht? Small beer for 90 Baht? Usually these items are priced in proportion with the menu. Here it is not the case. I would never visit again. I hope the owner reads this and learns from it.
