Clear favorite in Bangkok when it comes to cold cut / cheese selection as well as down to earth European comfort food, some of them with an Asian spin to it. Absolutely love it! The place gets busy... VERY busy, especially on the weekends. I...love the courtyard seating, especially as it has as well a retractable cover in case it rains. But also the seating inside (the wine room) is good if you prefer air-condition. I would not sit next to the cheese counter as it is super busy with other guests there. Service very efficient, food is delicious, reasonable priced. Been there at least 4-5 times and have never been disappointed.More

This restaurant pretends to be typically European but the owners are frauds who pay their staff a strict minimum and the result is a real mess, no service, wrong orders, long waiting times, stressed and aggressive management, too crowded table space due to their avarice,...no parking available except illegal double parking with the risk of passing cars, ....etc etc The restaurant is 'à la mode', or at least was until the virus pandemic, the clientele is mostly thai and anglophone expats.....any real South European discerning diner would only visit this place once before vowing never to return......which is my case! The cold cuts and cheese are good as they are simply imported and then badly served at an extravagant price......the 'home made' dishes are below par and served at an infuriatingly slow place.....you're lucky to receive your order within 40 minutes and when it does eventually come it will probably not be what you ordered! If you have the audacity to question the service and the organisation the two owners will apologize profusely for the pandemonium then, once they are faced with the reality of their incompetence, will become aggressive and nasty. Don't go there!! You have been warned!!!!!!!!!More

I ordered a rib eye medium rare and french fries. Poor. The cut was clearly not rib eye. Im not sure what cut it was because it was so poorly cut. The steak was rare and the grill was not hot enough as there was...almost no browning. The french fries were supermarket frozen - they tasted like cheap french fries, not unlike cardboard. You are an expensive restaurant. If you want to charge european price you will need to make more of an effort.More

We had been here previously but for lunch. This time was for dinner and it was beyond expectations! It’s busy at 6pm and we couldn’t believe how many tables were already occupied. We had the anchovy as small bites and it was delicious. The bread...was malt and yummy. The mixed salad was okay. The plate of grilled sardines was fantastic. Well cooked and seasoned. The grilled tomatoes were super yummy. I am not a fan of ratatouille so skipped that part. The merengues sausages were nicely cooked. Apparently the chips were tasty, too (I didn’t have any). We had the lemon meringue tart to wrap up the meal and it was just perfect. Ice cream was a bit pricey and it was okay. We enjoyed the food very much and would definitely return sometime soon. PS the kids corner wasn’t there anymore... not sure if it’s because it’s evening.More

This restaurant has the best cold cut and cheese available in Bangkok with different varieties available including truffles. Their oyster is fresh and its so amazing including other fresh seafood. Other menu like steak, pasta, salad is also perfect! Everything about the food is awesome....In terms of service, friendly staff and the manager name Aof really knows how to service guest. Very good! Casual ambience and environment. Highly recommend.More

I went for lunch with a long time friend and he suggested El Mercado to me. It sounds very Spanish and they serve some Spanish products , but actually the concept is like different stores , wine,. cheese, cold cuts and fish and a little...covered square where you can sit and have your food. Nicely , simply decorated. Honest food and a paradise for cheese -, cold cut -lovers as well if you are fan of fresh oysters, you are at the right spot ! Will certainly go back there !More

Loved the market ambiance of this place, and most especially their cold cut selections. The wine list was also extensive and fairly priced. Sat outdoors and the vibe was great, the service was helpful but understandably could lack at some point, as the restaurant was...very busy, always filled up and queued the night we were there. Would be keen to revisit this place for some hot plate dishes. Overall, I do recommend this place definitely for cold cut, cheese, wines and the lively ambiance.More

If you don't mind people blowing cigar smoke in your face while you eat, if you don't mind dogs inside the restaurant barking as you try to enjoy your dinner, if you don't mind employees who don't know what they're doing, if you don't mind...cramped tables, if you don't mind paying a substantial amount of money for this type of experience, then El Mercado is your place! I am very familiar with all the restaurants in this area and tried it for the first time a few weeks ago. Sitting in back of us was a table of guests with a small dog yapping away. First I do not think it is appropriate to bring dogs into restaurants. Second, the dog's barking was extremely annoying and ruined our meal. I complained to the manager who did nothing about it. On my left was a table full of guys smoking cigars. This is not only very annoying and unhealthy, but it is also against Thai law to allow smoking inside a restaurant. Beyond that, the staff are very disorganized. Food takes forever and on three occasions they brought food to our table that was not ours. This was one of my worst rest on expenses I've had in Bangkok in a long timeMore

If you have time to get around while in Bangkok this restaurant is a must visit. Because it's so popular recommend reservation so you're not disappointed although the place has grown with lots of seating areas making the most of its location. The location is...close to Queen Sirikit MRT station. Not noticeable from the outside you'll be amazed at the atmosphere as you walk in with lots of chatter and clanging going on. The menu is what's scribbled on the wall so you may need some help with that. The waiting staff are excellent and very helpful as is the owner who's usually around and comes around for a chat. The food is fresh and exceptional. There is long wine list and lots of cheese if you just feel like something light !More

We love coming to El Mercado when we have the chance on a business trip. The food is always meeting our expectations. The casual ambience and relaxed atmosphere has both locals and foreigners congregating here. A little bit of a hassle to get here even...if the MRT stop is perfect, the side walk that one is on foot to get here is not well kept and tiles are broken. But it is always worth it.More
