The fact that Baan Somtum was mentioned by Michelin was almost a turn off as I thought it would be a touristy restaurant with pretensions and overpriced food. Far from it. It is an easygoing, nice and clean eatery with simple, fresh and delicious food...- the salads are to die for, particularly the shredded spicy duck and the shredded pork salad. They give you the menu and a pice of paper where you note the dishes you would like to order. Many Thai guests, which is always a good sign. This is by no means a smart restaurant, but a very nice, clean and airy place off the road.More

After reading the positive reviews about this place we decided to visit and weee sadly disappointed. This restaurant feels more like a canteen with little in the way of ambience which was a shame. The food was okay but pricey compared to other restaurants and...the service was average. One thing which was particularly unprofessional was the trolley being wheeled around the restaurant collecting dirty dishes. Not nice to look at!More

Very delicious Esarn food in a very comfortable setting. We had papaya somtum, fried fish cake, whole steam seabass with herbs, grilled chicken and tomyum soup. The portion of the food was good for sharing and at a reasonable price. The service was good and...the food came very fast.More

Having dinner on our last day in Bangkok, the restaurant is situated on a small soi, 10 minutes walk from our hotel. The restaurant is on the big block of land with a large car park in the front of the restaurant. Specially on many...difference of Som Tum dish (Thai Salad), Grilled chicken (Gai yang). Other available dishes are Ok, not yummy as other restaurants. Waiters and waitresses were slow in services in peak hours. Atmosphere is quite relaxing. Not too expensive, the final bill for 4 dishes plus a Chang beer is around 700 Baht. Will come back to visit on next tripMore

Authentic Thai restaurant. We visited for dinner and had beautiful food including papaya salad with prawn, stir fried noodles with pork and drinks all for under 700 baht. It is frequented by local people which is always a good sign. Nice ambiance with friendly waiting...staff. Worth finding if you are in the area.More

We were there just after the lunch hour but the place is still packed. Managed to find a table within 10 minutes. Started - Papaya salad with salted crab This signature dish is truly earned its place. The sourness n sweetness is just perfectly tuned...by the chef. Tom yam soup is a clear type which is hard to find sometime. The fresh ingredient just made the soup so tasty πŸ˜‹ The spicy mince pork is the highlight for me as I can just ate the whole plate by myself...so yummy 🀀 The fish cakes is steamy hot with the sweet chilli sauce, perfect combination. Overall the plates are quite small portions, for those with a big stomach space like me might have to order few more dishes.More

This place serves up Isaan style food in a modern clean environment. Be prepared to wait to get seated, this place is very popular. We tried some of the classic Isaan dishes. The Somtum or papaya salad was only so, so, as it was a...bit too salty (or too much msg perhaps). The laarb was absolutely amazing, perhaps it was this dish that earned them the Michelin plate. The Yum Talay was good but then I have to admit I never had a bad one. Prices a bit on the higher side but yet very affordable.More

North Eastern food in general, with an extensive menu. Do not know how easy it would be without Thai speakers in the group, however we did have them, and it was a treat. Two types of Som Tum, a hot and sour soup, moo yang,...issan fermented sausages, gai yang with local spices, fried seabass...all and everything were exceptional! Would be happy to be having every Thai meal there. Can get busy at dinnertime but it is worth the possible wait.More
