We were super disappointed by the very unfriendly server. He didn't say a word the entire time he served us. It was even hard to get someone else's attention when we wanted to pay. We had two pad thai and the portions were very small. It was the least tasty pad thai we ate during our week in Bangkok. Definitely... More

The location is perhaps the best feature, just up from the main drag and a little less hectic than other bars in the area. Has a good cocktail list and excellent local food at budget rates. Lots of long-term travelers use this as a meet-point which can't be a bad thing.

I've only had a drink here once in 2011 and I had a plate of veggie noodles as well. They gave me the password and even 5 years later it still works. Amazing! Gotta love Thai lack of IT skills! As far ast the place is concerned - it's not bad, just one of the random places in the Khaosan... More

This has long been a popular spot. Bring your patience as if it's busy, you will wait a bit. Prices are great.

4 of us had lunch here. A typical roadside restaurant in Bangkok, cheap plastic chairs, lots of action nearby. The prices were excellent and the food was quite good.

The Gecko Bar must be a classic Thai Institution by now. It is the perfect place to pop in at any time of the day and just sit down and watch the world go by. Our favourite time is in the morning for a bowl of fruit, muesli and yoghurt with a coffee for 75bht each. Fantastic value and worth... More

We like the Gecko Bar since many years to have a beer, watch the streetlive or have a good breakfast, but the new kitchen serving you in the evening was the worst Thai food I ever had. Curry witch nothing in it, only Tofu and eggplant, the fried rice with vegetable and teriyaki chicken was plain rice, few ugly chicken... More

So pleased to see that this place hasn't changed since i was here in 2009. Great spot for people watching in Rambuttri. It's always busy, serving good value large cold beers and serving up affordable and tasty Thai fare. It may be a little rough around the end he's but it adds to the charm of the place.

Staying in Banglamphu

Neighborhood Profile
While you’ll see skyscrapers in most parts of Bangkok, it’s the gilded roofs of ancient pagodas that adorn the skyline of Banglamphu, the city’s historical and most touristic district. Hordes of tourists flock to this area to tick quite a few must-see attractions off their to-do list, with the Grand Palace being the most spectacular of them all. Banglamphu is also home to Bangkok’s infamous tourist ghetto, centered around Khao San Road. Visit at night to feast on road-side pad thai, cheap beers and if you’re up for it, some dancing fueled by buckets of Thai whiskey.
