Flawless service! The shabu was done bite by bite by the kimono lady making you feel special. All the menu synchronised really well in the monthly course menu. To finish off the meal with sesame ice cream leaves me the crave to come back again...with my familyMore

What an amazing course in a fantastic environment with a bit of secretive luxury feeling. The outside discreet but warm approach and the interior decoration brings you right in the heart of Japan before you even order anything you already know you are in for...something special. Highly recommend the Course of the month... From snow crab and green laver cream to black sesame gelato with milk pudding a treat of flavors along the various dishes I really savoured. The foie gras and truffle chawan-mushi, or premium Sendai beef shabu shabu were all very tasty. The discreet but friendly staff explained all the dishes, the tableware and room atmosphere were all part of the enjoyment. Large parking space right in front was very convenient.More

Outstanding food and service! The quality of the food is absolutely fresh. Head Chef Tetsuya-san is very talented in putting together the Kaiseki Shabu Shaba Kaiseki dinner- the presentation of the food is superb! The decor is beautiful and very unique to other Japanese fine...dining restaurants. Service is personal with Tetsuya-san attending to customers himself. Highly recommend Katana.More

The exterior of this restaurant is modest enough, but the interior has to be one of the most intriguing in Bangkok, with its suits of red and yellow Japanese armour, its nail-less gazebo constructed by Japanese craftsmen, its hidden door in the fortress-like wall, and...its private rooms that are each a work of art. The Japanese hostesses are well schooled in the traditional art of omotenashi, the concept of service anticipation. There is a Japanese head chef. There is an a la carte, but the essence of the menu is its choice of kaiseki menus, which start from 2,300 baht. Some finish with a shabu-shabu course, with different types of beef on offer, each at the highest A5 grading. Iberian pork is also available as the shabu course. A five-course kaiseki shabu meal starts at 2,800 baht with A5 grade Sendai Kuroge Wagyu Beef, and we had the eight-course version, at 3,500 baht. Chef uses some Western ingredients, for example we had a sprinkling of black truffle on our grunt fish sashimi, and one dish featured an oyster floating on foie gras mushi, but the concept of each course was otherwise pure Japanese. Quality, service and surroundings were impeccable. This is certainly one of the most outstanding Japanese restaurants in Bangkok.More

We ordered Shabu-shabu course and all served cuisines were amazing. Shabu meats were really soft, juicy and delicious! Other dishes of course is changed monthly, used plenty of Japanese seasonal ingredients, were also tasty and well prepared. The decor is very chic with authentic traditional...Japanese flair. Japanese lady wearing Kimono served at our table were very polite and nice too. They also serve fresh sushi, however reservation is required! More

Absolutely fabulous food here, but do expect the unexpected. Our Kaiseki Ei Roku with Shabu-Shabu eight-course set menu started off with an amazing cream cheese fondue with truffle (whole fresh black truffles, to be exact). No less impressive was the foie gras & truffle Chawan-mushi—a...kind of savoury custard. And of course the Kuroge Wagyu Shabu featured ultra top-quality A5-grade beef with its tell-tale marbling. The service is exemplary. Our two kimono’d servers where actually from Japan, and seemed to know what was needed even before we asked. Another great feature are the small private rooms that are available for the asking, with four very comfy stuffed chairs and a loveseat sofa. Some venue highlights include the concealed secret entryway (no kidding!) and a hand-carved Japanese sala created by Japanese craftsmen.More

(1) Service - 5 stars As an Asian, I was totally impressed by the omatenashi service experienced at Katana. Honestly, the hospitality at Katana is far better than many other high-class fine dining restaurants in countries packed with Michelin-starred restaurants. (2) Food I have tried...the 8-Course Set Menu - August 2017 (nouveau Japanese cuisine and shabu-shabu) This set menu is a delight to the palate. I enjoyed the excitement of looking forward to each upcoming dish! One after another, I experienced an delicate taste of Japanese cuisine. The star of the shabu-shabu course is the A5 Matsuzaka Beef! Every piece just melted in my mouth with pleasing flavours of the meat and melting fat! With the great service Katana offers, I enjoyed this course like a queen in the palace. A sweet lady in kimono cooked and served the food for the hot pot right in front of you. I also love their raindrop cake - it was the best raindrop cake I have ever tasted in Bangkok. The cake tasted perfect with the yellow roasted soybean flour and brown sugar syrup. It's a dessert that was light enough to enjoy after a feast of seven courses while sweet enough to satisfy my sweet tooth. (3) Decor The decoration of the restaurant strongly suggests the spirit of bushido and samurai. Diners are greeted by a red Samurai statue at the main entrance of the reception area of Katana. As we booked a table in a private room, we were led to the room through a secret by-passage on the right side of the entrance. It's quite fun!More

With the huge Japanese expat community in Thailand, the best Japanese food outside of Japan is by far in Bangkok and the best of that is at Katana Shabu. The service and ambience are both authentic and superb - that alone would be worth a...visit. But the food elevates it even more to a simply sublime culinary experience. Probably the best beef in Bangkok and at surprisingly reasonable price as well, this is an opportunity to dine on top wagyu that would be at least two to three times as much in Hong Kong or Tokyo. They also have an extensive sake list and a knowledgeable staff to help you navigate it. Unlike a few of the higher end - and somewhat overrated - Japanese dining options in Thonglor, Katana shabu is reverential but not pretentious. It strikes the perfect balance. Normally, any place that has Sapporo beer on tap would automatically get three or four stars from me. But in this case, the frothy draught beer was merely an accessory. While we ate from the set menu in one of the private rooms, I will most definitely go back and eat a la carte in the main dining area, particularly after Chef Tetsuya said they will be getting in some more exotic beef cuts, like Tokachi Herb Gyu. This Hokkaido reared beef is grazed on a steady diet of pasture grass and straw and is arguably the best of the best. Obviously this type of meal is a rare treat, especially for those of us who have to watch our meat intake. But for those moments when that unmistakable craving for quality beef overcomes you, there is no better place in Bangkok to satiate the craving then at Katana Shabu.More
