So many choices in Thamel and all great value. Plenty restaurants get great reviews but a lot is standard tourist food. This place, however, was a best pick for the freshest, cleanest local flavours. Wide ranging menu, bit of food envy looking at others’ choices,...but we plumped for the Tibetan set which was perfect meal size and obviously great for vegetarians.More

We spent 3 days in Kathmandou with my girlfriend. We had, therefore the chance to experience 3 different places for dinner. We went to Utse twice... this is how good it is. We took the vegetarian option of the hotpot, and everything about that dish...is amazingly flavoured and well balanced. There is not better dinner option after a full day of walkng in the busy streets of Kathmandu or trekking in the valley. 20 dollars for 2 and we could not finish. Do not miss it you will regret it.More

We went there to savour the Tongba traditional Sherpa hot beer - that was great. Served in wooden mugs in which it is brewed, the millet beer is then sipped through a slotted straw. You just keep topping up your mug with hot water and...the Tongba beer just keeps coming. It's an experience in itself. Then comes the food. We chose a Tibetan Hotpot which they said was enough for two. We found it to be enough for at least four hungry footballers and we couldn't get near finishing the lot. However, it was delicious with a range of meat and vegetables mixed up with the tasty soup and rice. The staff continue to top up the soup as you go and the service is great - attentive and friendly.More

We were pleasantly surprised that the food was so good here. Service was also good, and prices were reasonable for the many choices they had to offer. One big disappointment - the bathroom was a dirty hole in the ground. That was quite surprising for...such a nice hotel/restaurant. Otherwise, we enjoyed our meal.More

Ok, lets just get this straight. I LOVE UTSE! During my visit to Nepal I was part of a school trip with 18 people. Every time we ate at Utse (believe me it was a lot, every morning and three times for dinner) we enjoyed...every last bite. They took out group with ease and we never had to wait more than 10/15 minutes for our breakfast which always tasted great. This is very authentic and provides a great atmosphere, it's small and cosy but still fits heaps of people without disrupting anything. I would 100% recommend this place to anyone. If I came back to Nepal this would be a must visit.More

The food was excellent, but I was a bit disappointed at the portion sizes. I was expecting something a bit larger, but the place is definitely good if you're looking for tasty food.

Delicious Tibetan hot pot and many side dishes. We ended up eating here twice during our stay in Kathmandu.

We stayed at Utse and on our final night ate there too. We'd mentioned to the owners we wanted to try their hotpot and weren't to be disappointed. We weren't even allowed to look at the menu as we'd mentioned wanted to try it. Its...delicious! Its a lovely old fashioned place to both stay and eat. Great food, a wonderful welcome and definitely somewhere I'd stay again.More

The restaurant is open from about 7am for breakfast, until 10pm for dinner. If the restaurant is really bust and night, they will stay open until 11pm.
