We were the only 3 for lunch that day (although they were expecting 32 for dinner) but they cooked nearly all of the food experience for us and instead of a buffet, we were served. It was wonderful. You definitely need to take a taxi...out and back (I had hoped to walk from our guest house, not to be). The gift shop has a few items for a good cause. Although the cookbook is lovely, I cannot convert some of the quantities or ingredients for use at our home in the US. Thanks for the wonderful hospitality!More

This was a magical experience. More than just dinner, although dinner was great. We appreciated learning about the food we were eating, and loved the creative decor and use of recycled materials.

Incredible experience, best food we had whilst in Zim. Wish we had the opportunity to go more than once whilst we were there - I still think about the beef stew - amazing! Absolute must when in Vic Falls.

Those words cover the cuisine, the ingredients, and the people. We were a group. Had family style starters served at the table - very unique dishes. Then a walk-up buffet of main courses which were very tasty. Desserts also very tasty. Nothing fancy, but good...to support the local economy.More

After two days filled with activities in and around Victoria Falls, we felt like we were lacking a true Zimbabwean experience. Our hotel has a copy of Sarah’s, DUSTY ROAD, cookbook. After flipping through some of the recipes and reading some of her stories, we...decided to head out to the restaurant. When we walked through the rustic gates, my husband and I turned to each other and said “Wow!” We were first lead to a table where the ingredients that would be used in our meals were explained. The food is “buffet style”. But I would call it more “family style”. The heart of the staff and owner are felt in each dish. Sarah, herself, spent quite a long time talking with us about the restaurant and Zimbabwe. We left with smiles on our faces and a signed copy of Sarah’s cookbook. I look forward to sharing some of the flavors of Zimbabwe with family and friends back home in the U.S.More

Visited Dusty Road restaurant and township experience on a short break to Victoria Falls. It was fabulous! It's called an experience, and it really was. Much more than just a really tasty dinner. It was authentic and not forced in any way. The staff were...all lovely, and so helpful. The children's choir were splendid. It was a perfect way to spend the evening. If you're looking for somewhere to eat while in Vic Falls, this is the place to go.More

I found Dusty Road by browsing the internet for a place to have dinner during our three night stay in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. And as it seemed something more than just a little bit different, I along with two friends, went to have dinner with...Sarah Lilford, the owner and founder of “The Township Experience.” We made a reservation, but to our surprise found we were the only patrons that night, which was great for up but not perhaps for Sarah. On the positive side we told some of our travelling companions and they went the following evening where the restaurant was full. We were lucky to have the attention of Sarah and one of her assistants during our visit. Sarah has a philosophy of use, reuse and re-purpose so everything was second hand or repurposed or both. When I say everything, I mean everything so it was a truly unique place and to call it eclectic was an understatement. We were treated to tour of the place plus an explanation, by the charming young lady assistant, as to what and where Sarah sources all the various food and drink items she serves. Frankly it went over my head but we did try various items of food and drink before we had our meal. There is a set menu, which costs USD35, with drinks very reasonably priced. The food was served either by Sarah or her assistant, consisting of a starter tray, four main courses with lots of side dishes and salads; sweets plus local coffees and teas. There was plenty of food. It was a tasting experience and we enjoyed it immensely. During the meal Sarah asked if some of the local children could come and sing to us. They sang three songs without accompaniment smiled, waived, and trouped out – it was great. We chatted with Sarah about this and that, and when it came to paying our bill found out that the VISA machine was acting up and so we paid cash. Sarah, to her credit, did offer to come to our hotel to pay the following day but luckily for us we had enought cash and the good old US dollar is still the world’s favourite money, and as it happens, the currency of Zimbabwe. Give Dusty Roads a try, you will not regret this unique African experience.More

You will be amazed by this place! The decoration is so creative and beautiful, everything is made from recycled material/objects. The food (from a local market) was great and we really appreciated they made it vegan for us. I only have one suggestion: it would...be great to have at least one vegan option by default on the menu instead of adapting an existing meat dish.More

Seeing a township and getting to eat here is a wonderful experience. They show you all the local ingredients use and start you with a few welcome drinks. The food was excellent but what a surprise to meet Sarah and hear her wonderful story. A...group of local school kids happened to be there and sang. Our group had a wonderful time and we highly recommend you coming here. They arranged for our taxi back to the hotel and it was only $7 USD.More

A must do when visiting Vic Falls. We were blown away from the moment we arrived. We were greeted by friendly staff and given a tour of the property which included an overview of the different local ingredients which was used in cooking the dinner....The food is delicious and plentiful, and its worth trying to taste a little bit of everything that's available on the buffet. The restaurant was full, so advisable to book in advance. Another must do, memorable experience!More

Very tasty food, sampling local dishes and flavors. Place is entertaining, especially if you have kids. Certainly not off the beaten track but a nice window into local life if you’re in town for a short stay. You’re supposed to book before coming. It is...a set menu or you can have a tapas style meal for lunch. All very fresh and tasty and creates local employment and opportunitiesMore

It's a bit hard to explain this restaurant. A vision of a 4th generation Zim lady with British descendance. An eclectic collection of used goods and whatever it crosses your mind arranged to create a unique place. Just go open-minded and you won't be disappointed,...it has nothing to do with how a restaurant should and normally looks like. A huge plus, the restaurant IS NOT in the touristic part of Vic Falls, it is located in Chinotimba township. This is real life, this is how locals live, probably this is where much of your hotel staff is living. Don't be afraid, it's SAFE to visit. Lunch time, in a very hot Saturday, we were the only customers, normally dinners are packed. The food is amazing. A fix price menu, only local dishes, traditionally cooked, slow cooked food. Plenty of food ... Drinks are to be paid separately. It's an experience. A highly recommended one.More
