Tried Thai Kani on a recent visit. Friend has special diet requirements and the wait staff took the time to listen to ensure the food was prepared accordingly. The lunch was delicious and we were appreciative of their efforts. The Thai food was very tasty, views of the Indian Ocean relaxing. Thank you!

I like the sushi and the menu in general in Tai Kani. The best of the best is the sushi tempura on the long dish with crunchi bit under the roll! Amazing everytime. The view and the deck floor make you feel in a special place. Great variety of drinks and good service.

Great thai food. Most of the dishes were very authentic, and one of the best we’ve had, even though we usually eat Thai food every day at home. Only the papaya salad was very sour and did not taste good. Prices were very high, but not usual for these very tourist areas and you’re paying for the view the water in the sunSet.

I came in this restaurant for the good reviews but after trying it I have been disappointed. Frankly not only disappointed but angry. I came here to eat sushi and sushimi and I ended to have just rice on my dishes. I tried the tuna signature dish but I received 8 small cubes of fried rice with on top a spicy pink sauce. I asked the waiter where was the tuna and they told me inside the sauce.... not more than a gram of tuna and a "signature " dish of only rice for 30.000 ?! I asked to take away and bring me some fish eventually paying a difference but the young waiter just ran away leaving the dish on the table. Unbelievable. Not a manager. The other person had sashimi but no variety, only red snapper and tuna, 6 small pieces. We spend 132.000 and had nothing in the stomach, we left restaurant and went straight into another. Service only limited to bring dishes , they dont even take away dirty dishes. If you want to eat fish this is certainly not the place where to dine.

It looks nice. I was really disappointed with the taste of the sushi and the attitude of the lady who I was told was the owner. Just a really bad, overpriced experience in general. If you don't know how to be nice to people of all races, hire someone else that does and stay home. Watching that lady schmooze the light-skinned people and turn up her nose at the dark-skinned people (I wasn't sure of their races but her aversion was clear) at the SAME TABLE turned my stomach before the food even came. The fish seemed ok but the sushi rice was really weird. I guess they import ingredients like wasabi but maybe use local sugar, rice, and vinegar which make for a weird combination with the fish.

Thai Kani used to.be wonderful when it was in Masaki, quality and service took a hit when they moved to the waterfront. Visited (or tried to) last Saturday night. Stood with my wife waiting at their table for getting seated. There were a number of free tables... passed numerous times by all the waiters / waitresses who mostly smiled but didn't think we wanted to sit (?). Then apparently the owner came out and spent some time looking around, and at us, but no offer of a seat or getting someone to attend to us. I guess they are making so much money they no longer need to take original regulars. So, as good as the food and service used to be, it isn't what it was (by a long way) so unfortunately I dont think we will.be going there again.

Hi Exitroute, It breaks my heart to read of unsatisfied Custumer’s, it really is not our intention and with these hard times we are trying our best to provide the best service and experience for all our customers, Old and New ! Had I have been there last Saturday night, I would have never walked pass without offering you a table or a waiting seat ! Moving to the waterfront was our biggest challenge and a blessing to our Buisiness, as it took Thai kani to a different level. To all our new and old customers, thank you for supporting us in the last 7 years and we hope that you will continue to support us when we need you most ! Tip~ To avoid disappointments and long waits, please call and reserve a table, especially on weekends. Kaap khun kaa 🙏🙏🙏🙏

So , we were there on 14th august to celebrate my daughter’s bday .. and I ordered for a bottle of red wine ( pinotage ) which was priced at 80,000 tzs which was listed on their menu card . After a while , I asked for the check , and to my surprise the price of the wine on the bill copy was 140,000 tzs !!! So I asked for the menu copy just to be sure , and the waitress knew very well why and cleverly gives me the menu which had the original price covered by a sticker with 140,000 tzs . I did not want to create a scene since we were there to have a good time , but this kind of practice definitely leaves a bad taste ( quite literally! ) . I could have very easily asked for all menu copies , which basically meant they forgot to update the price on all their menu cards , but instead decided to show me only the one which had the revised pricing . Very disappointed that this happened at Thai Kani which I used to visit quite frequently, but definitely not anymore !

Dear Bharat, Sorry to hear your dissatisfaction, I did follow up on the incident and discovered that it was the Spier Pinotage 2l1 Gabbles that you ordered, it is our most expensive wine on the Menu and that is the price. I am sorry for the misunderstanding. Hope to see you again.

There's little to say except that if you're in the Slipway area, visit this restaurant. It's a MUST do - eating really good Thai/Sushi outside on warm evening on the decking amongst the trees, sometimes listening to excellent local musicians. Thoroughly recommended, and I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

Was craving thai food so I ordered a chicken stir fry dish. To my surprise, the chicken was completely fried very hard and stiff. Don’t know about the rest of the stir fry dishes but will definitely stir away from this one… no pun intended.

How unfortunate that this the dish you hot as this is not our normal cuisine. We take so much pride and care to produce the best tasting dish every time. We are so sorry to hear this and I hope you brought it to the attention of the manager on duty to either change or recook your dish. I will investigate further, but in the mean time please accept our sincere apologies. 🙏🙏🙏

Thai Kani is a nice place to relax with a sea view. Having a drink there and watching the sun go down is such a great feeling. The food is a bit pricey but that's in line with eating at Slipway. During this last visit was had the tuna (very good), pad thai, a stirfry and pad see ew (had the noodles this time!). From my time in Thailand, I know that they use spoons and not chopsticks. No spoons on the table but it's all good. I liked that you can clarify the level of spiciness for your meals. I also had a gin drink which was very good. Every drink I've had there has been good.Thai Kani is one of those places where it's easy to get people to agree to meet there.

We were looking for a chilled out place for a birthday dinner and found ourselves at The Slipway... There are several restaurants and in the spirit of trying out new things we settled for Thai Kani... The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable of their menu- this enabled them advise on the specials from the good to the wines and always checking on us. Having a table next to Ocean was also a plus.

Sometimes when we are travelling we want some different food. This is it. This place specialises in Japanese and Thai food. I had sushi and Japanese last time, however this review is based on the Thai food I had tonight. The Tom Yum soup was loaded with tender lemongrass and galangal and had amazing flavour. The pad Thai was generous with beautiful tail on prawns. I liked the piles of chilli flakes and peanut and lime that I could choose where to season. I’m here for work and suspect I’ll eat here every night. A good find.

Was last here pre-COVID, and was anxious to get back and try out more of the menu. I wasn't disappointed. I wound up eating here twice during my trip. The menu is really something to set this restaurant apart from its competitors. The food was perfectly served, just the right spice, and a great drink list as well. Would recommend it to anyone who likes Thai food. The fresh fish was amazing! Best restaurant within the Slipway area hands down - not even a close vote anymore. Oh, and last but not least, the service was spot on, close, but not too close, and always ready to attend to your needs with just a quick look.

One of the most popular and rated Thai restaurants along the posh Slipway area in Dar. And yes, it did not disappoint. We tried the stuffed fried fish, veg and salmon sushi which were all fresh and delicious - watered down with the local crafty Dee (Blonde IPA) which is also recommended
