My family and I had dinner at Dar Zellij on our last night in Marrakech. The restaurant is a little tricky to get to. On our way there, we actually got lost. It was a pretty nervewracking experience. We ended up having two boys who...were playing soccer, escort us the rest of the way (for a small fee, of course). Once we arrived, we were wracked with such anxiety about finding our way back to our Riad in the dark, that we asked one of the hostesses if somebody would be able to escort us back. She happily agreed and told us that it was common for tourists to get lost trying to find the restaurant. The food was great, the restaurant was beautiful, and the service was impeccable. And as promised, they arranged for somebody to walk us back to our Riad, which we greatly appreciated. It made for a great travel story on our last night. We can now say we did get lost in the winding streets of Marrakech!More

Dinner was a delight. Yes, it is a little touristy, but the food and the service are superb. The warm vegetable mezza was the best. Our entree's were well-presented and very tasty. You can't go wrong eating here.

The most beautiful old traditional Riad! The setting is like something out of a film! The lamb tagine is probably the best my other half has every tasted... I had the vegetable tagine, fresh and tasty! We arrived early and had a few cocktails on...the roof terrace and listened to the ‘call to pray’ over the roof tops at sunset which was quite amazing! The staff are lovely, the reason I haven’t given this 5* is because I felt the atmosphere was ‘too professional’ if that makes sense? Some of the waiters didn’t seem too relaxed even though they were very friendly, it was as if they were trying to hard... saying that I can’t say this was a negative, we just enjoy socialising with staff/waiters. The food and service is great, wouldn’t hesitate in recommending this place!More

Myself and a friend came for dinner and had a lovely evening. The rooftop bar and the inside of the restaurant are beautiful - it felt so special. We really enjoyed the belly dancer (we went on a Thursday evening) and added some extra excitement...to the evening. I have to add a special thanks to Ella, one of the hostesses. She came to check on us multiple times in the evening, and after we had asked for the bill and she came to tell us that we could stay to watch the belly dancer - which we would have otherwise missed! There was no expectation that we had to spend more money or order another drink, she just wanted to make sure we didn't miss it. We had some issues getting to the restaurant and were hassled by some men in the street (we are 2 girls in our twenties), and at the end of the meal she offered to find someone to accompany us back to our riad, to make sure we felt comfortable. Outstanding service and made us feel really special. Thank you!More

The restaurant is located in a very "suspicious" and extremely difficult area to be found. When we made the booking through its official site, we were impressed by the fact that not only got a reconfirmation at once (this is plus) but also they arranged...someone from the restaurant to meet us at a gate and escort us to it. Obviously the reason of that was that we had to walk for 10 minutes in "suspicious" dark narrow streets only with locals around. Upon arrival we were proposed to have a drink on the roof top (quite indifferent place) where we had to wait for 40 minutes our drinks to arrive. Pretty hungry we decided to go down stairs for our dinner. The salads (a variety of local preparations that they call salads with beans, pumpkin and much more unknown items ) were not tasty. The main dishes were poor and mixed up my order as the waiter's English were poor. After being complaint about dish which was not the desired one and having wait for another 20 minutes, they delivered to me again the a wrong order. It was then when I realized that I had to eat a snack at the hotel on the way back. Did not like the ambiance (too dark) and ........ The only positive was that someone escorted us back to the gate on the way out and managed to escape from there. SORRY BUT ..... NO RECOMMENDATION SHOULD BE GRANTED TO THIS RESTAURANT Missed to mention that they offered complimentary a kind of desert for the inconvenienceMore

This is an excellent place. The best meal we have had so far in Morocco. The service was impeccable and the food was delicious. We read some previous reviews and followed their suggestions to arrive early and spend time on the terrace. It did not...disappoint. They have a full alcohol menu (not cheap, but booze in Morocco never is). The olives served with the drinks were a great intro to the meal to come. We had the prix fixe options for dinner, one vegetarian, one chicken and one lamb. All were delicious. The “salad”, was an incredible surprise as it is really a mezze platter, with 8-10 small dishes with delicious vegetable preparations. The dining room is very elegant and the live music was a perfect backdrop. Not too loud and beautiful. All in all, an amazing experience well worth the price. Note: we ordered one of their less expensive red wines and it was great!More

We dined there twice: taking a 'discovery menu' on one occasion nd a la carte on the other. Sunday night also has belly dancing.

My husband and I chose to come here for our last evening in Marrakech. Lucky for us, it was right around the corner from our Riad! Our reservation at 7:30 was the perfect time to catch the sunset on the rooftop before dinner and the...belly dancer during dessert. The pace of the dinner was slower than most in Marrakech, more like what we would expect in the states, which was really nice because it gave us time in between courses to digest! Highly recommend the trid, the briouates, and the beef shin tagine.More

This was such a wonderful restaurant with great staff and delicious food. A real Morrocan experience, the building is a hidden gem with authentic 17th century surroundings. I would highly recommend a visit.

With pre-dinner drinks and the meal plus wine, the cost per person came to about £40 / €45 / $52 each. Not cheap for Morocco, but worth the visit. I hope this helps.
