This is the first restaurant we ever ate in on our first trip to Morocco , and we always come back when we are in Marrakesh. The setting is so romantic, the food is wonderful and mainly Moroccan and the staff are very friendly and...professional, and now know what we want to eat before we do. This is a fantastic place to eat, or just for a peaceful drink on the terrace to escape from the bustle of the Medina. We always come back here and can't recommend the Palais Donab highly enough.More

The fabulous Jana at Riad Agiaviva recommended this for our last dinner in Marrakesh. A lovely restaurant where we had a table in the courtyard by the pool. We tried the Moroccan salad, assorted briouates and Tanjia marrakchia with chicken which was superb. Lovely ambience...and good service made for a wonderful evening. Fine dining at a reasonable price. Highly recommendMore

Hidden gem in the heart of Medina. Authentic Moroccan food. The atmosphere is great both indoors and outdoor on the terrace. We ate there twice during our stay and were not disappointed with selection of food or the service.

We visited after our morning spa for lunch which was very good, I can recommend the lamb shish-kebab it was delicious. The surroundings were also beautiful it was lovely to sit in the sun. I did find it a little pricey for what it was.

Our first venture outside the hotel and we found ourselves in Dar Donab. The food was great, as was the service. There was also a local musician who provided a good atmosphere to enjoy our evening. We paid approx 600 dh for a single course...and bottle of wine - which would go a lot further in other local restaurants, but price was the only downside to an otherwise lovely evening!More

We really enjoyed our meal here - a group of five. The staff were really kind and lovely - and we had good fun with them too. All of the food was good - and the restaurant itself was beautiful to be in.

The worst service we have experienced anywhere in marrakech. Even the cheapest cafe offers better service. Food was passable but at this price point would be considered poor. We had to go and ask for cutlery after the starter and go and ask for more...water and poured our own wine. Never a server in sight. When I asked why the service was so poor we were advised they’re a riad not a hotel so service is different. Strange that the service in the riad were staying in is perfect and there’s is not. I would not recommend.More

A beautiful restaurant and good quality food and service. This restaurant is in the middle of the medina but very easy to find. We enjoyed the lamb tagine and royal couscous with a couple of glasses of wine. A nice quiet ambience within the bustle...of marrakech.More

I have reviewed this restaurant before, but as part of the hotel. I only just found the restaurant on TripAdvisor as a separate listing by accident. This is one of the first places we ate when we came to Marrakesh and it's still one of...our favourite places. Dar Donab is a former palace and is a magical place, straight out of 1001 Tales of the Arabian Nights. The tree lined courtyard has an open, unheated, swimming pool which we have never seen used, although as we come here in winter I'm sure it gets lots of use in warm weather. The bar is wonderful and at night is one of the most romantic places we've ever been, although the sense of romance vanishes if the TV is on. The bar staff will turn off the TV if asked. The restaurant itself is stunning with carved wood, stained glass that glows at sunset and a breathtaking marble fireplace which has a fire lit when it is cold, although there are huge heaters now to keep the room warm;we have eaten here when it has been freezing so these are very welcome. The food is traditional Moroccan and very good. We tend to have the four flavours tagine, and our waitress who has been at Dar Donab for a couple of years, told us that she knew that we were going to order that. This is a very rich, tasty dish, proper winter food, with prunes, apricots, figs and almonds. For pudding my wife has the crepes with chocolate and I have the creme caramel, both unfailingly good. As alluded to above, the staff are very friendly and attentive without being over familiar and it is wonderful to be remembered in a place so far from home. This is not a dry restaurant, reference to the bar should have been the clue, and they do a mean mojito. We love this place and will keep on coming back. We can't recommend it highly enough and if you want traditional Moroccan food in a glorious setting, then come here.More

We stumbled over this amazing restaurant when we strolled through the door to check out the accommodation. The old world decor, furniture and subtle glamour was amazing. We had to wait for a table and thoroughly enjoyed a drink beside the pool. When We entered...the dining room it was worth the wait. A beautiful old style dining room with a magnificent wood carved ceiling and a marble fire place. The meal was excellent, again a mixture of Moroccan and European dishes, and very reasonably priced for the quality and ambience of the restaurant. The service was excellent Our waitress was great fun and added greatly to the wonderful experience. I would thoroughly recommend a visit if not an overnight stay here.More
