Just off of the ISU campus the Stomping Grounds is nestled in a quiet neighborhood. A friend asked my group to meet here and I returned every day of my trip. It has everything I like in a coffee shop: great service, great variety, and a palpable sense of calm and relaxation. No pretentions that so often come hand-in-hand with... More

This is a special place that serves food that has a little extra to distinguish itself nicely. From the freshly baked bread used in the sandwiches to the homestyle soups, there is always something to add to the delight of dining here. Service is almost always great here. Among my favorites for lunch is the tomato bisque and the curried... More

Lunch was tomato bisque along with their curried chicken salad. We both ordered the same and both enjoyed the food. Service was good. Atmosphere: very noisy that day so it was difficult to visit. I was disappointed that they don't offer heavy cream with their coffee.

Very popular location for students and faculty alike. Wi-fi is very good and makes it easy for studying, teaching or business. Good place for small meetings of 2 - 5, comfortable variety of seating, including the Very popular, seasonal veranda. The veranda also is served by attentive wait staff and is well attended on summer evenings.

Food is amazing. I love stomping grounds for its vintage style and its delicious sandwiches. However, waitresses were rude and didn't take work as seriously as they should. Stomping Grounds was almost empty at the time we visited, so the waitresses just sat around and chatted with one other. Less customers should equal faster service but unfortunately, this meant easy... More

Went here for lunch with some friends. I would say if you are going here 4 is your max unless you make a reservation. We had 7 and it wasn't comfortable. Atmosphere was nice and they have great outdoor seating. I ordered the Caprese and it was great. I'm not a dessert fan but all my friends talked me into... More

Vanilla latte, ham and Gruyere croissant, berry crepe. Latte was better than Starbucks and the key for me is not too sweet with a good espresso flavor. The croissants looked amazing in the bakery case so I chose this sandwich and it didn't disappoint. The topper was the dessert, a berry crepe, that could have been eaten as a meal.... More

One of my top 3 favorite places to eat in Ames. Please fix your lighting, though; it gives me migraines and I couldn't eat here all winter until the weather was nice enough to sit outside again. Best coffee in Ames. Food is always perfect. Love the fruit crepes and Italian sodas. A demicarafe of the house wine pairs well... More

Sandwiches were really, really good, if slightly overpriced. Service was not terrible, but with a teensy twinge of rudeness. Got coffees on the way out and they were lovely. Setting was great as well.

Food quality- not bad. Not great but not bad Prices- pretty high for Ames. About what you'd expect in a larger city. Service- slower than slow. It took FOREVER to get a server and to have them check on us. And I mean slow. It wasn't busy either. Attitude of staff - our server was fine. Another server was very... More
