Breakfast at the now closed Colony Inn has been a highlight of our Amana trips for the last 25 years so we were so disappointed when we found out that it had closed. We tried the family style breakfast at the Ox Yoke and were pleasantly surprised. We like the hasbrowns at the Ox Yoke better but prefer the fried... More

Excellent quality ingredients and portions. Great Amana environment. And service Wish would open before 0800.

I always enjoyed the food and atmosphere at Ox Yoke Inn. The clientele may be a little older, but that is the charm to me. My kids grew up loving the family-style servings, meaning a bunch of side dishes (mashed potatoes, Cole slaw, corn and etc) coming with the main entrees. This is my favorite restaurant to take out of... More

What a treat to find good German food while traveling. Celebrating years of friendship, two of us ordered Schnitzel plates. The Jäger Schnitzel plate was supposed to have mushrooms in the sauce and there were a few, but would have been better with many more. Both dishes were delicately sautéed and tender. My husbands Sauerbraten plate tasted authentic and his... More

I know this is a good restaurant but it seemed like it was relying more on reputation than performance. The waitress messed up part of my order, then the kitchen messed up another part. Seems like folks up there don't pay attention. Top it all off, the food was only average but the price tag was indicative of much higher... More

We ate dinner at the Ox Yoke Inn, and the meal did not disappoint. Food was delicious and plentiful. Our server was courteous and helpful. All of us (party of three) enjoyed our meal. One of us had a german dish and the other two had a great hot beef sandwich. We share a HUGE piece of warm apple strudel... More

Old German family dishes in Iowa farm country. Delishous Saurbraten, potato pancakes, spaetsel, pickled beats, home-baked pie. I remember eating here 55 years ago and it was just as good. And you won't go away hungry!

We ate here with my parents on a Saturday. We opted to sit out on the patio which was far quieter and more quaint than inside seating. The restaurant was extremely busy, hence food service was very slow. Our waitress was great and attentive. We were given large portions of food, and it was delicious! The sweet potato fries were... We thought we were going to a little cafe for lunch but this place in the Amana Colonies turned out to be a place for "farm workers" to chow down. Even at lunch the portions were gigantic. It has heavy German food served family style. Try to get a table near the front of the restaurant which has small tables...we... More
