I live nearby and was very excited to have this new spot arrive on the scene last year. Illy Cafe signs, al fresco tables; how could one go wrong? And, it’s literally within the main Ferrari/Lamborghini car showroom. My first visit was disappointing— confused staff,...no supervision and supposedly an Italian chef. The food, even just simply pastries and small dishes, was marginally acceptable by any standard. But it was new, so I gave it time. A few months later I returned and had a small lasagna and a salad and it was actually much better. Today I returned at 8:15am; just one other table. It looked as though the sole waitress was doing everything— no one else staffwise in sight. We waited at least 15 minutes; she never even came out of the kitchen area. So we walked out. She’d definitely seen us arriving, but no greeting, no menu, no nothing. Meanwhile, the same operators recently opened an upscale Italian restaurant called Viaggio right upstairs. I’ve had dinner there three times and it isn’t bad at all. How is this collectively possible? Simple: bad management. End of story. Now, I have in the past purchased a very fine Italian sports car here, but based on this, why would I return? It’s honestly better to just close a place like this than to damage the reputation of the core business. If you’re in this area and looking for a coffee or light bite, better just to go to nearby Whole Foods or Down to Earth, both close by in Kakaako.More

The food was amazing! It deserves 5 stars! The service though is really bad. Be prepared with a lot of patience to wait for the food and make sure you get what you order 🥴

It’s about time, my family and I found our go to for Italian take out or sit and eat cafe style place. We enjoyed everything we ordered, from the panini, the pizza, the salads, the desserts the coffee (illy. Coffee) ... my wife and I...loved it so much that her and I went on another day just the two of us and sat outside had wine with the cheese and meat platter, had a good time people and car watching. PS this place has FREE Valet parking and the staff turns into family and that goes for the staff at Velocity they are all so welcoming and helpful ...GOOD TIME. We will be back with and with out the Kiddos ...lolMore

We heard about this new Italian caffe for lunch ... so disappointing. The salad was already prepared. The toppings were already prepared. All they had to do was scoop the ingredients onto a bed of mixed greens, but it took more than 20 minutes to...get our lunch. People who arrived 10 mins after us were getting food and hot drinks that took more time to prepare than our salads. AND our food and drinks were served in plastic! We were also given plastic cutlery! A ~$50 lunch in the fancy Velocity dealership and I have to use plastic and have to wait and wait for lunch? Then the food ... I bit into the octopus and it was chewy and it had sand. Give me a break! Even though the staff were super nice, they were not efficient. I'm not interested in going back.More

Had to check this place out as soon as our local food critic gave it a thumbs up. Great Italian fare can be hard to find in Hawaii but the flavors of this place was somewhat reminiscent of a trip: crispy bread, wonderful slices of...meats, simple, elegant seasonings and small portions. Two chefs from Italy know what they're doing while rest of staff is learning (place just opened up). Swanky ambiance next to Maserati showroom and a new dining area upstairs will open soon too. Worth more than a visit!More
