We arrived about 20min before closing- planning to eat outside, but it started pouring rain. They were fine with us eating inside- the food was so good! Sauces are great as well, but the food was so good it really did not need it. The yams were magic- have no idea how they made them.

Great BBQ and folk!

We are in Athens for a conference and wanted a burger or BBQ. Saw this place was within walking distance of the conference and headed that way. BBQ was tender and delicious, sweet sauce was sah-weet! Cole slaw was unusual but quite tasty with raisins and some spice, maybe a little cumin? Green beans were perfectly seasoned and good! The people were friendly, helpful and kind. You don't always find that in restaurants today. Try this place! It really is Dawg Gone Good BBQ!!

Absolutely the best

Since it was Memorial Day our options were few but were real glad Dawg Gone was open. This was the best BBQ I've ever had. The seasoning, sauces, chicken, pork, collards and man n cheese were all terrific! This will be my new go to place when I'm in Athens, which will be more often now after eating here.

We had great ribs and pulled pork!!! Also the mac and cheese were much better than everywhere else. Tasty coleslaw and brilliant sauces. Super friendly Service and good prices (2 pers. 20 $)

Hands down the best BBQ I’ve ever had. Pulled pork, ribs, and mac and cheese were all delicious. Great service and great location right in downtown Athens.

Fantastic lunch stop!

Stopped here for lunch, based upon the reviews here on TA. We are on a 6 week road trip and were passing through Athens. The food was fantastic. Not one bite my wife and I had was disappointing. I had the rib plate, with yams and Spinach Supreme. All 3 items were delicious. My wife got the chicken plate with yams and I believe) turnip greens. All 3 were fantastic. For desert we had the peach cobbler and blackberry cobbler... perfection. But I need to comment on the service. The young lady that took our orders and brought our food outside was super helpful... explaining everything, and answering our questions. She could not have been more pleasant (even to a couple of older Yankees!), and really is an asset to the business. Great food, great service, great value. We hope we pass this way again... this is where we will eat.

Best BBQ in the Southeast

I am always on the "BBQ Quest" and have eaten at BBQ establishments from the northeast, to California to Puerto Rico. Dawg Gone Good has the best pulled pork and sides I have had anywhere. The sides are home-made and the pulled pork is juicy and delicious.

The food was served hot, fresh, and tasty! Thank you for catering my event! There was some concern with the timeliness of the delivery but once it came the guest forgot all about the time delay.

very good BBQ

We had our dog with us so we needed a restraraunt with outside tables. We were very pleased with the taste and price. The apmosphere is very casual and friendly. The squash caserole was outstanding.

My wife and son ate here on a college visit. The food didn’t look very good and I told them let’s leave. They out voted me so we tried it. The food wasn’t very tasty, was dry and cold. I wouldn’t recommend this place.

BBQ was dry, had little flavor despite smelling smokey. Overpriced for the quality of the BBQ. I will not visit this place again. If i want decent BBQ in Athens,I'll go to COok-out

Best bbq in Athens, and I'm very picky with my BBQ!

I know how to grill and smoke meats and so does my family. I went to lunch here the Tuesday before Thanksgiving with some fellow PhD students from UGA. I ordered the rib plate with baked beans and mac n cheese. I got sauce for the ribs on the side. Because I was in a good mood, I also ordered the smoked sausage. Everything was delicious! The ribs were so moist and tender and the beans were sweet with a slight kick to it. I would recommend this place and yes, I would return. There's no tofu or kale on the menu, by the way. For those who have written reviews about this place and left negative ratings, I wish them the best in life. This place is no frills, old school bbq. Go hungry!

Smelled bad the moment we walked in...

Despite the smell we ordered anyway. We had checked reviews and this was the #1 ranked bbq place in Athens! We had the ribs, chicken and pulled pork. All tasted like they had been sitting around for a long time, very old and blah. Small portions. Mac and cheese and beans were average. Not what we expected from the #1 bbq joint in Athens. Guess we will try #2 the next time we are in town because we won’t be coming back here. Gross.
