About
Experience traditional Japanese dining in a beautiful, authentic Japanese restaurant located inside the historic Casa Cakchiquel in Panajachel Guatemala. Restaurante Hana offers the rich traditions of Japanese home cooking with Chef Mihoko Azumi. Like we do in Japan, we cook with the seasons, and savor the peak flavor of ingredients. We adhere to the fundamentals of Japanese cooking: respecting the ingredients and their natural flavors, cooking in the moment, and not doing too much. Restaurante Hana presents a wide range of typical Japanese dishes including sushi, sashimi, tempura and all manner of lesser known dishes from the East, both large full dishes and smaller plates for sharing as well as daily specials. Restaurante Hana offers a welcoming multicultural family style dining setting for travelers as well as local customers. We look forward to serving you.

My family loves Japanese food and Hana lived up to our hopes! The service is superb, the ambiance is calm and quiet, and the food is authentic. Prices are a little high owing to the cost of ordering fresh seafood, but it's worth it. Our tempura was light and crispy, the gyoza were flavorful, and the ramen was delicious! Highly recommend.
Something to note: if you are using a travel guide published before 2019, be aware that Hana has moved from its original location listed in the guide to a building right off the main road leading to the lake.

This restaurant is now located right on the main street in Pana and has lovely decor and outdoor seating. They have begun offering Chinese food as well as their usual Japanese fare.
We enjoyed deep fried crab rangoon as an appetizer. We then feasted on two-for-one sushi (Thursdays). We shared California rolls and Tempura Shrimp rolls. The sushi is decent but of course not perfect as fresh ingredients are very hard to find in this remote location in Guatemala. But it does satisfy a craving, that is for certain!
I will go back to try more menu items another time. The new Chinese menu looks delish!

Not just Sushi - we enjoyed Udon with Shrimp Tempura and Ramen with fried chicken.
Udon noodles tasted home made and tempura reminded me of my visit to Kyoto. Shrimp were juicy and jumbo. Broth was excellent. Totally surprised me to get such an authentic udon. My Asian significant other said the Ramen was outstanding- she also thought her Ramen noodles home made.
Great service, clean, comfortable and good value. Highly recommend.

We came here on a Thursday when they have a 2 for 1 special. We ordered a shrimp tempora roll, spicy tuna roll and the veggie gyoza. They shrimp tempora roll had so much rice that you could not taste any of the shrimp. We ended up having to remove about 75% of the rice before eating the other pieces. The spicy tuna was just okay. The gyozas were so bland. I am not too sure if there are other sushi places in town but I do not think this place deserves the rating it currently has. With the 2x1 special the prices aren't bad but otherwise I could consider it over priced.

My husband and I went here for Valentine’s Day dinner because of the great reviews. I honestly can not describe how inedible the food was. To start we had sashimi and gyozas. The sashimi was 100% straight from a freezer and so disgusting they deducted it from our bill. The gyozas were ok, but were cold in the middle, which proves that they were not made fresh.
We both had sushi as our main courses and couldn’t really eat too much of it after what we discovered from the started. The sushi was basically a mountain of rice, unprofessionally rolled, filled with fish that was not fresh.
If you have ever been to japan or are in any way a fan of sushi I recommend you avoid this restaurant as it will not be like anything you have ever experienced.
The service and drinks were ok, but the place was filled with tourists - so even the locals would not eat here!!

Hana was a surprise find while walking down Santander. Traditional noren in the front lead you to a space simply decorated with tables in two different rooms. The food is as authentic as possible while catering to local tastes. Service was friendly and prompt. I would return to try many of the other dishes on the menu that I didn't have the first visit.

Who goes to Panajchel and has sushi? Our group of 13 did. We came in around 6:30pm on a random Tuesday and they were able to accommodate us. We split an order of gyoza and a sushi roll between 6 of us. The gyoza were quite good and the sushi was fine. I think they're not using the right kind of rice?
I had the fried chicken ramen, which tasted more like a fried chicken soba-udon baby. It was fine, but hit the spot. We all wanted some warm soup.
Staff were nice and efficient. The drinks were all good.

We had gyozas, a miso soup, a nigiri platter and tempura. Nothing was bad, but nothing was particularly good either. It felt like there was a lack of passion in the kitchen - just the bare minimum to deliver an acceptable meal. We were expecting more based on the reviews.

The food was good the service was ok but I wouldn’t rush back ! The place just didn’t have a welcoming vibe and we didn’t feel welcome !
I ordered green tea which was weak with one very small tea bag and they charged £3.50 which I think is a disgrace and felt as as if I’d been robbed

The food was so yummy! I got the fried chicken ramen and my boyfriend got the katsu don. We met the owner and she was so kind and explained to us the stuff on the menu. I would definitely recommend if you are in town and want to try different food.

It is not Japanese food. Really brave. How can sell this kind bad food.

We went there based on the five star reviews left by others about the ramen and fantastic sushi, we ordered the chef’s sushi recommendation , some ramen shoyu ramen and gyozas, having tried hundreds and I mean hundreds of ramen from every where we go and eating sushi in a weekly basis , I say we have some experience and this place is one of the worse I tried, the sushi was terrible, not sure how was this the chef selection, first they were rolls, not sushi pieces except for the shrimp ( which was tough /not fresh), ramen tasted like water, noodles were thick and sticky, pork was fatty but not seared so not good and the gyozas were just average, nothing to rave about.
The service was terrible as well, we have to ge chasing the waiter every time we needed something and not once she came to check on us.
I wouldn’t go back nor recommend , go somewhere else.

The food was varying in goodness. The gyzoa were really tasty and I would definitely recommend. However, the ramen and sushi were not great. But WOW the orange chicken was bangin. It had the perfect flavor and was super delicious. The chow mein was also pretty good. Overall it was good, but some of the food was not great.
