place is tiny. expect to wait. Had reservations at 3pm on a Wednesday after snowmobiling and still had to wait. They do have heaters on outside at little tables while you wait (with no service). Ask to sit at the bar if they allow you...to get seated quicker. Food was pretty good but not sure it was worth the wait. Nice ambience. Once seated they were fairly fast on service and had some great hot drinks available - must say my hot toddy was good. I got a French dip and it was yummy. all our meals were good, just a drag to have to wait. Once you're in there, you understand why it's so slow. Guac and chips were yummy. Burgers great.More

Sadly, we did not know that fall was "off season" in Aspen and the city was empty. Wandered the boring streets looking for food and dipped into The White House and grabbed two seats at the bar. Best part of the trip. Our food was...simple, but very well prepared and filling. Cocktials were spot on and the bartender was top of his game.More

We had an amazing dining experience here!!!! Such a beautiful venue with tons of history. We sat upstairs by a window in a fairly intimate setting with mood lighting. We ate the burrata & tomatoes for appetizer- delicious! I had the duck and my husband...had the beef wellington, both were so well prepared, fresh & flavorful! The service was excellent - I believe our server's name was Bryan - and overall such a memorable experience! Definitely make a reservation early & put this on the list for your trip to Newport! Parking: Love that they have their own lot!!More

Our hotel recommended this place for lunch and we are glad they did. It was very busy when we arrived with a 45 minute wait and we were really hungry. Fortunately there was room to eat at the bar which we really enjoyed. The food...was all delicious with a very nice server and not too expensive considering that it is in Aspen. Recommended. Excellent Macho salad!More

After visiting Aspen on three occasions over the years, I'm convinced that there isn't a bad place to eat or sleep in this tourist mecca. Even if you don't ski. My wife and I have sampled more than a few restaurants for breakfast, lunch and...dinner and we never have been disappointed. How about lunch at the White House Tavern? Located at 302 Hopkins Avenue, in the historic A.G. Sheppard House, a miner's cottage that was built in 1883, it is one of the oldest structures in Aspen, an example of Carpenter Gothic architecture style. Open from 11:30 to 9 daily, it offers good food with good service. So what more can you ask for? For starters, we had deviled eggs and chicken meatballs with creamy mustard sauce. For a main course, we sampled three of the house's most recommended sandwiches--the Honor Burger with fresh ground chuck, white cheddar cheese, tomato and spicy slaw, a crispy chicken sandwich in a house-made torta with Swiss cheese, tomato and spicy slaw and a French dip au jus, thinly sliced roasted prime rib piled high on a house-made toasted French roll. With fries.More

We love Hillstone restaurants and visit them often in Dallas and NY as well as Aspen when we visit - but were so terribly disappointed with the service and especially the hostess at the White Horse Tavern. We went to eat at the bar as...we were told the table wait would be 45 min to 1 hour - yet at least 2 tables set remained empty during the entirety of our lunch. A few other tables were empty as well but apparently they were not serving food at them for some reason. Perhaps they like to have guests wait - several couples were waiting outside and others left because of the wait? The people sitting next to us who ordered at least 30 minutes after us were served before us. We flagged this to the service and shortly after, by some miracle, our food came. Not even an apology. Absolutely not what we are used to from Hillstone restaurants.More

Just returned home from a wonderful trip to Colorado. Wanted to give this review because we were so impressed with the food and service of this restaurant. Our server was Andrew and he was so incredibly attentive. Seriously I think he was the best server...I've ever had at a restaurant. The food is also amazing. My husband and I both had the Salad with Chicken which was delicious! Thanks to the White House Tavern and Andrew for a wonderful evening!More

I haven't visited yet so I can rate the service, taste of food or beer, but I find the prices - just in viewing - to be extremely HIGH... Basically. nothing was under $22 and that was just for hamburgers, sandwiches, etc., with no extras....I doubt I'd visit unless it was just for a beer, and I think only have 5 draft beers on the menu for a "Tavern" a little disappointing.More

Excellent. Both of the sandwiches we had for lunch were tasty and well made. My only suggestion is to do better on the fries. They were the skinny type and tasted dry and flavorless. Overall the service was great. Attentive, friendly, fast. Really enjoyed the...experience.More

We wandered around Aspen and came here by chance. Cute place. We sat at the bar by choice - our favorite spot. The grill is also behind the bar so lots to watch. Had a fun time with the bartender/waiter who shared names of other...spots to try during out stay which we did and all were worth the stop. We both had a beer and split a huge burger which was very good.More

With the pager to walk around it’ll only seem like a few minutes. Their food is so fabulous it’s worth the wait whatever it is.

They don’t take reservations but it’s a really cool place that you won’t mind hanging out having a cold amber beverage for a few minutes. Maybe a movie star will give you their table and you’ll have a great story to tell.
