We had a lively safe meal pretty comfortably outdoors last week. The chicken was to die for. The fries are always fab. The charcuterie and other apps darn good as well. And the server and manager were very welcoming with with warm hospitality.

We came in hungry traveling and this place was amazing! We sat in the tent and we were able to relax enjoying champagne with truffle fries. The burrata salad was amazing along with the French onion soup! My husband ordered the bolognese pasta! Perfect sized...portions so we didn’t stuff ourselves. It was also very enjoyable watching the skiers come off the mountain! Hoping to come Monday for the diner and a movie special!!More

We had the chaitini martini and the spiked hot chocolate. We had our drinks right on the mountain and the tent was heated and dolled up a bit with red cloth giving it some elegance. We came only for the drinks and they were very...good. The ChaiTini(grey goose, chai syrup, almond milk, and espresso) was strong but tasty!More

On a recent trip to Aspen, my wife and I stopped for lunch at Ajax Tavern, since we knew that it’s a very popular lunch/après ski spot and a good place to dine with a mountain view. Overall, our food was very good, but I...thought the service was mediocre and the prices a bit high for the overall quality of the experience. This was our first trip to Aspen, so we had never been there for the more boisterous Ajax Tavern experience of past years. When we visited in mid-January this year, it was very tame, with the outdoor patio tables well distanced under a fully enclosed tent (which I assume has now been modified to be less enclosed after the recent ban on indoor dining in Pitkin County). Being in a tent diminished the experience a little bit, although we still had a bit of a view of skiers finishing their runs from our table. I was hoping for it to just be a fully outdoor patio experience like I had seen in pictures from past years, so that we could have a better mountain view. We made a reservation for lunch in advance on Resy, and had to wait a few minutes for our table, even though quite a few tables were completely empty in the tent the whole time. I understand that Ajax Tavern has gone back and forth on whether they take reservations from guests who are not staying at the Little Nell (we were not hotel guests), so I’m not sure where it stands currently, but I was glad we were able to reserve our table in advance. It also appeared that they were taking limited walk-ins that day, but I’m not sure how long the wait for a table was for those who didn’t have a reservation. There was a security guard stationed at the entrance to the Ajax Tavern tent, and I didn’t quite understand his role. It appeared that on multiple occasions, people were stopped and told they couldn’t come in, even if they claimed to be joining a party that was already seated. I couldn’t figure out if he was there to enforce some sort of overall capacity limit or exactly why he was making it so restrictive to enter. Once we sat down, our server came over pretty quickly to take our order. She wasn’t friendly or particularly attentive, but she did the basics of the job efficiently enough. The menu had a good variety of simple options for lunch, but my wife and I each ordered the double cheeseburger with truffle fries, along with a glass of Veuve Clicquot. The champagne seemed really overpriced at $33 per glass, and I was skeptical about the cheeseburger when the server said we could not choose our cooking temperature, since all of their burgers are made the same. This seemed a little low-brow for a restaurant at the Little Nell, even if it’s the most casual dining option. However, when the food came out, I was very pleasantly surprised. The burgers were on the more well-done side, but were really good, and the truffle fries are excellent as well. These seem to be classic Ajax Tavern menu items, and I think they do them really well. Overall, we were happy with our lunch. We found the food to be quite good for a casual meal, although I definitely thought it was overpriced, since two glasses of champagne and burgers and fries for two ended up being over $150. Especially since the meal is so casual and service was indifferent, it felt a bit expensive. However, I would consider coming back when the tent is down, either in nicer weather or once the pandemic restrictions are lifted.More

Excellent cheeseburger with good quality meat. Delicious truffle fries. Great table service by Alexander from Serbia. Clean restaurant. All employees friendly and wearing masks if you’re concerned about that. Would definitely recommend for a really good meal.

The view and food spectacular. The service horrible. Our waiter could not have been more annoyed to wait on us. Terrible attitude, rarely visited table. For the prices and quality of food, which is amazing, you would think they would strive for service to match....Other wait staff around us seemed engaging and attentive perhaps it was just an issue with this gentleman. Also sunglasses left on your hat, classless at this type of establishment for a server, especially left on well after dark. Would have been 5 stars. Consider other options in Aspen.More

I have been to this restaurant several times during the winter and summer. In the winter it was busy and the service was OK. Right now it's low season plus the pandemic and for some reason the service is awful. The hostess sat us on...a table where all the umbrellas were open so we couldn't see Aspen Mountain, the only reason you go to this place is for the view because the food is ordinary and the service is awful. So we asked the waiter Alexander if we could move to the empty tables in the front, he said he was going to check. He took so long to come back that we sat on another table. Alexander came back and said we couldn't seat anywhere else. Its like 6:30 pm on a Tuesday, the outdoors is empty and there was no need for the open umbrellas since the sun was setting. We just wanted to have a drink so we told Alexander when your reservations arrive just tell us we will give you the table back, he said no. Alexander's attitude is terrible, I don't understand how he is working in a 5-star Hotel. Between all that we had ordered a rose wine and a drink which never came. In order for a restaurant to have a 5-star rating, you need to serve a drink within 4 minutes of the guest's being seated. We also asked for a blanket because it was cold but never received. We got so frustrated so we asked Alexander to please bring our drinks and bill downstairs to the pool area. We walked downstairs, which is part of the Little Nell Hotel, the same property as Ajax, but Alexander never brought us the drinks. Noone was downstairs to welcome us. We sat in front of the fire pit for 15 minutes, there were 4 waiters and a manager talking to each other and no one came to serve us. Finally, we asked if someone could serve us. The firepit was broken, they have 2 awful rose wines by the glass, I mean if you are going to charge $25 for a glass of wine at least have Miraval, Whispering Angel, or Domaine Ott. When I go to a 5-star restaurant I expect 5-star service, food, and drinks, this is for sure not 5 star. This establishment is down in service. I will write another review telling you what happened downstairs, which was also awful.More
