We arrived at a little after 4pm which is their opening time. There were no lights on and no cars in the lot. It was a bad sign, but my sister had recommended this as one of her only places to eat in Alamosa. We waited for a while then I tried the door. Mint was open so I walked... More

Ate 2 wounderful meals Friday & Saturday night. The salads were a great beginning, mushrooms, broccoli, carrots, onion with mix greens. Sunflower bread. The Top sirloin and New York strip were prepared to perfection. This restaurant has been resurrected.

Being from Texas I eat a lot of steaks. The 14 oz ribeye was about 18 ounces, tender, not over seasoned and cooked perfectly. My wife had the snow crab legs and they were very good. The fried asparagus was very good also. The John Wayne memorabilia was cool.

This steakhouse was recommended by the hotel as a great steakhouse. It may be but on this night it was very low quality food. I will say they discounted my meal 50% but I only ate 15% of the meal. I ordered the bacon wrapped filet and the bacon had turned so when the steak was cooked all I could... More

So when you pull up it looks like an old cafe, when you walk through the door it is a real surprise. Definitely John Wayne theme, and the food is excellent. Impressive servings. Both couples split an entree and we're more than satisfied. Good flavor, big portions and good service. A real find.

My husband and I went for dinner tonight and it was delicious! We split the Alamo steak meal and each had a salad; delicious balsamic vinaigrette and fresh greens. Needless to say our server Delana was also very attentive and genuinely personable--a rarity this day in age when it comes to servers. We'll definitely be eating there again when we... More

This restaurant has some good food (except the hamburger). The ambiance is John Wayne and western themed. It has been in place for years and years - you can expect good food, lots of it, and to leave being full. I personally do not like the dark bar-like lighting but it is a nice restaurant to eat at when you... More

Food was quick and large helping size. Food was good side of average, waitress was prompt and friendly and attentive. Several times she checked with us to verify that food was fine and restock or refill beverages. Primary reason for picking was proximity to hotel. If I am back here I would eat here again. The price is a few... More

After a not too brief closing for "renovation" and re-staffing, True Grits is back, John Wayne photos and menu copy as usual. While the food is nothing special, prices are very good, and quantity of portions is large. Cocktails average $6.50 and are well made and sizable. The dinner salad was a pleasant surprise from the usual limp lettuce and... More

Party of four friends went to True Grits again this year as last year this restaurant was absolutely first rate. Were greatly disappointed. Service was not good, waitress was slow and not interested, did not even clear and wipe the table before she served the dessert. One 8 oz prime rib was 'mushy', as though had been heated in microwave,... More
