Yes, great view. However, mediocre service, short pours of wine and denying a discount that is agreed upon with a neighboring business more than overwhelms the view. We ate there Tuesday, June 28. While checking in nextdoor at the Inn at Avila Beach (fabulous place),...we were told that the Ocean Grill gives a 10% discount to those staying at the Inn. We mentioned this while giving our order and the server acknowledged it. After the wine, which seemed a short pour and not white wine chilled, we ate an okay dinner. Nothing to write home about in the meal. When the waiter brought the checks (2 couples), he had forgotten the discount, which he again acknowledged. He returned with an apology and explained that the manager said it didn't matter that we were in two different rooms and had separate checks. Only one discount would be allowed. We checked with the manager of the Inn that evening who stated that was NOT the arrangement. Most mind-boggling was sitting and watching as a few tables were served bread upon arriving but at least as many, including us, never were offered bread. While we will return to Avila Beach and the Inn, there was nothing about our experience at Ocean Grill that recommends returning.More

We hit the Ocean Grill on a bad night. They were short staffed or something, or had an unexpected rush of people, so had closed the kitchen early, then reopened it, seemingly without telling the wait staff. It just all felt like we were pretty...unwelcome overall. Given that, we only had an appetizer, crab cakes which were unremarkable, and moved on. We might give them another try on a different night when things are going smoother for them.More

Great location with stunning views! Fantastic, friendly staff! But the MAIN reason I came here is Chef Giancarlo! In just two short months, he has transformed this place into a culinary delight, with a fun vibe! I've been tracking this man down on vacations for...years. All I can say is he is the BEST CHEF I have ever had the pleasure of meeting, bar none! He also knows how to make a place fun for customers and staff alike. I had a seafood combo platter and everything on it was cooked to perfection (no easy task, as you know if you are at all familiar with cooking different types of fish). They have a very nice wine list and great beer selections. If you ate here before and weren't impressed, give it another try. I can assure you it's MUCH better now that Chef Giancarlo is running the show! If you've never eaten here....well, what are you waiting for?!More

We had a lovely meal at this restaurant. The server was very nice and attentive to our needs. The food came relatively quickly. Our only complaint was that the wine by the glass that we ordered was substandard for this style of restaurant. We ordered...two different entrees. Gluten free ravioli with alfredo sauce: the pasta maker knows what they are doing and so does the chef. The pasta was cooked perfectly, smooth, creamy alfredo completed a great dish. Could have used a touch of nutmeg. Side of vegetables cooked perfectly. My partner had the sand dabs that were cooked nicely with a butter caper sauce that complemented the fish. Vegetables were also cooked perfectly. We recommend this restaurant for the seafood.More

Our party of four enjoyed every single part of this meal - from the crispy flavorful brussel sprouts and the rockstar french fries to the New York Strip cooked perfectly and the shrimp pad thai, along with risotto, and bacon fettucine. We concluded with a...shared creme brulee that was lovely and just the right finish to a lovely meal. We love Ocean GrillMore

The grill fettuccine is bomb! My husband had the short ribs! It was delicious but was a little over cooked but ribs are hard cook but he still finished his plate. I took a bite and I thought it was perfect. The aussie and Golden...got a few bites of the meat and potato’s. The clam chowder to start with was to die for. It beats Splash! So delicious 😋 I highly recommend this place plus the views are spectacularMore

What a disappointment! We had eaten here about 2 years ago and we were very excited to return. We were celebrating our anniversary and this was supposed to be our special dinner. We started off by ordering some champagne. Our server knew absolutely nothing about...anything on the list , when I asked a few questions he literally described one of the bottles as “ taste like champagne “. We did order a bottle which he brought to the table without an ice bucket ( he said he would be right back with one but it never appeared). We ordered our meal and a side of bread. The bread came first and was ice cold as if it had been in the freezer. We waited about 15 minutes for our server to check on us so we could tell him he forgot to give us plates and ask him to heat the bread. He told us there was no way to heat the bread ( and he shrugged his shoulders in that 2021 kind of way that basically means “ too bad, deal with it”.) Our entrees eventually arrived. My scallops were pretty good, unfortunately my husband’s pasta was completely undercooked. (There is a very small menu so I was shocked that they messed up basic pasta!). When our server finally came to check on us we told him the pasta was cold and he offered to take it off the check. He never apologized or acknowledged anything that had gone wrong throughout the dinner. At this point I would’ve expected the manager to come talk to us considering how poorly the whole dinner went but I’m pretty sure there was no manager on duty and the whole place is being ran by 17 year olds working their first job. I also observed our server tell a guest at the table next to us he had “ pushed the wrong button “ for her meal and she sat and ate nothing while her party finished their meals. This restaurant needs an overhaul for service and food. The menu is unimaginative at best, but it is the poor service that really sealed the deal that we will never be eating here again. Save your money and order an Italian sub from the pizza place in town and go eat it on the beach!More

Beautiful view, C- service, mediocre food... cold fries, 1 piece of rockfish for fish & chips (also cold), crispy Brussel Sprouts also cold. Best thing was the Caesar salad, and again, mediocre at best. On the bright side, it only cost $45 before tip 🙄...That's for 1 salad, 1 Brussel sprouts, & 1 fish & chips. Water to drink.More

We ordered the Flatbread & Fish & Chips. Both were excellent! Fresh, hot & a bit different. The flatbread was more like a thin cut Pizza, served round & was enough that we had leftovers. The fish was one large piece, and lightly battered. I...asked for tartar sauce and they did not have any., But the chile lime dipping & lemon ailoi dipping sauce were very good. Fries(chips) were excellent too! Their indoor dining has some open air to it, and tables were spaced well, plus the front windows opened for a sea breeze treat. Great Avila Beach view! We tried to return for lunch another day, but currently only open Fri Sat. Sun. for lunch. We will return!More

First time visitors on Nov 05, 2020. Sat down upstairs in non-heated dining after waitress told us the downstairs section was reserved. Ordered two orders of Grilled Salmon from the menu @ $26.00 each for the wife and I. Arrived in about 15 minutes. At...this point everything was fine. Grilled salmon was cooked fine, BUT the asparagus was like rubber and pulled apart like string cheese. Had to "saw" my way through the stalks like they were fire wood. The couscous was overly spiced, and drowned in excess oil to where it slide across the plate and was the worst I ever tasted. My wife and I left 75% the asparagus and the couscous on our plates! We couldn't eat it. We were waiting for the server to ask "is everything OK" but he apparently knew how bad the food actually was and never inquired. After we got the bill, they charged $27.00 for the grilled salmon instead of the menu price of $26. Not a big deal if the meal was proper cooked, but it did add insult to injury. We won't be back!More

We opted to eat out by the pool. It was late for this restaurant which may have accounted for the poorly prepared dinners. They had no fresh fish other than salmon and the poke, which was horrible. The server did his best. It was very...dark outside.More
