All reviews lentil soup gyros baklava pita bread baba ganoush middle eastern food great food ordered the chicken love mediterranean food counter service staff was very friendly and helpful self serve love this place plenty of parking yummy condiments village
Great food, great service . A great selection of dishes from the holy land. Get a selection of dishes and share. Great condiment counter too. Definitely with a visit when in the Pismo beach / San Luis Obispo Area. Just off 101. Easy to find.
Jaffa is a small, counter-service restaurant serving Middle Eastern food. My wife and I shared chicken shawarma plate, a side of baba ganoush and a bowl of lentil soup. Service was fast and the food delicious. They had a self-serve table of condiments. Oddly, the...best was a tomatillo salsa. Total cost was $18 plus tax.More
We wandered the streets of the Village, and ended up in front of Jaffa Cafe with an interest as strong as our hunger. We were not disapointed! The staff was friendly and helpful, and the food was wonderful! We will definitely wander back again sometime!
This review is of a first time visit. I really wanted to love this place. Honestly, the price point is right on budget and I love Falafel, Shawarma all this food. But there were a few hiccups:
I ordered the chicken shawarma plate, which tasted...great, the rice was seasoned beautifully and it was a perfect portion size. Unfortunately I did get a small bone in my meat. :( I pointed it out to the cashier at front and he was gracious and apologetic. (Though I was offered no money back or anything.) As someone who’s worked in food service, I understand things happen, but I do think they were lucky I was eating with my hands and felt it before I had the chance to choke or break my tooth on it. Honestly, if someone had eaten this and choked on it, they'd have been in BIG trouble.
Secondly, the food was not particularly warm. Again I brought this up to the cashier and he said they’d be happy to warm out food more next time, which again was very nice, but we were disappointed it wasn’t warm in the first place, as it should be.
Overall, I’d say the food had potential, the price was refreshingly affordable for the area, but was definitely lacking. Really, the rice was the best part. The falafel was way overcooked and tasted burnt.
At first, I thought we'd go back and give them a second chance, but I don't see why. I love Mediterranean food and there aren’t many cheap, local options (read: greatly missing the Halal carts in NYC). Next time I have a hankering for falafel or a gyro, I'll spend a little bit more for the quality and service of Hapy Bistro.
Though, I have to say credit to the cashier who took my criticisms so gracefully!
P.s. The bonus baklava we received for discovering Jaffa through yelp was much appreciated. Tasty indeed.More
I ordered the chicken pesto salad. I was a little perplexed when I saw a small portion of lettuce but there was a large portion of red pepper, tomato & cucumber which was a refreshing change of pace. There was a large portion of the...chicken pesto. It was very tasty. There was pita bread but I am trying to skip the carbs so I didn’t eat it. The staff was very friendly and helpful with the menu. They had a small salad bar with peppers, pickles, salsa and tasiki sauce.More
