We were so pleasantly surprised by the tasting meal. It gave us so many different flavors and chances to try things we may not have ordered on our own. It was our anniversary and we were visiting from New York and they went out of...their way to make the whole night special. The manager and our waiter were so kind and really made us feel comfortable and welcome. Amazing meal.More

Food and drinks were very good. The ambiance was a 1 however. Most of the staff were friendly. A few were super frigid. You go to these places for the full experience and unfortunately this place failed to deliver on that front. They took covid...awareness to a different level. Just to note we are very conciousness of this ourselves and take every precaution. Every time a server came around you had to mask up. In fact we were told at seating that while we are not drinking or eating we should mask up while sitting at the table. You literally have to keep.your mask on one hand all night. After a while it really got out of hand when you are on a 5 meal course. They said that was DC rules which I think was exaggerated. In the past weeks we had visited Bresca, Nobu and Blue Duck and we didn't experience the same policy. They should advertise their policy and let people know ahead of time of this when making reservations. It may seem like a small thing. But trust me when I say it was honestly annoying. Make sure to take a disposable mask otherwise you'll smell your dinner for a long time as many times we masked up. I don't think we ll go back again, perhaps when covid is all done with we'll give it another try .More

Food was extremely delicious. The snacks each complimented each other. I got the crab, which was luscious and well cooked. Decided to go with the chicken soup on a cold night and oh my gosh... It was the best chicken soup I have ever had....It was so vibrant with the greens and incredibly earthy, tied together with the warm broth. Dessert was also soooooo good!More

We got the special twice during our stay. It is $45 a person for a whole dinner with dessert. The catfish sliders are sooooo good! Each dish we tried we loved! This is the best food experience I have ever had and next time I...am in DC I will try it again. The menus change frequently which is so amazing!More

Fabulous food. Great but quirky approach to contactless serving. Food is creative and finished beautifully.

The Dabney has a Michelin star, which means it usually produces a good experience. Because of Covid I chose to purchase for delivery. The Trout was good, the chicken had no taste, the accompanying items good or medium. The logistics of ordering for take out...or delivery are too much work except for the true fans.More

It took us a while to get a reservation but it was worth the wait! This restaurant is outstanding - very fresh, creative and delicious food, beautifully displayed; wonderful service; open kitchen with wood-burning hearth (provides great entertainment!); very nice vibe. We loved every dish...we had: catfish dip, scallop crudo, farm egg, flank steak, glazed carrots (amazing!), cornbread, apple crumble, and more. The sommelier recommended a great bottle of wine. We loved our experience and will be back soon! Thank you to the amazing chef and staff at the Dabney.More

You might need a shoehorn to fit in the place and a compass to find it, but it’s worth the effort. A fun place tucked away that you’ll feel like it’s a clubhouse. Great small plates. The quail was delicious. Cool cocktails too!

If you enjoy small amounts of delicious flavors delivered promptly by a wonderful staff this is for you. I was nursing the end of an old fashioned and 5 different waitstaff offered to take my empty glass

We greatly enjoyed celebrating a birthday here! It’s true that The Dabney is not easy to get to by car. You can’t park within sight of the restaurant, which is in a clean, well-lit alley in a gentrifying area of Washington. But we solved that...by taking an Uber that dropped us at the door. Once inside, we were seated promptly although we were about half an hour early for our reservation. The menu is short and consists mostly of small plates, although there was a $95 platter of short ribs and vegetables to feed a group. Many of the small plates included unfamiliar foods such as salsify (a root vegetable) and sugar toads (a fried fish). But we loved every one of the dishes we ordered, and we appreciated not being offered the usual steak, shrimp, roast chicken, etc. The restaurant’s specialty is Mid-Atlantic foods, and of course a farm-to-table sensibility. Unfortunately, however, there were very few Mid-Atlantic wines on the wine list, and no bargains. We drank a claret from Linden in nearby Virginia and were pleased with it. The service was first-rate throughout the meal. The dinner was one of the best we have eaten in years, with a price tag to match.More
