Reserved dinner here a while ago for a trip we made to DC.
Nice looking restaurant and well decorated internally, nice ambience.
Greeting was very underwhelming and clumsy, felt distinctly like a “problem” as they couldn’t find our reservation. They did eventually and showed us...to a pleasant bench / table.
Waiter was a little over the top but on the whole fairly attentive and helpful
Food however was very hit and miss
Two starters of sheek kebab - lamb and chicken.
Chicken was fine and well seasoned, if a little lukewarm for my wife’s taste. Lamb was awful: undercooked and cold. Not sure how long ago that hand come out of an oven - or how long it had been in one - but left me gently gagging on “lamb cerviche”.
Sauces though were pleasant and spicing of them was good. But $24 for Sheek kebabs suggests they need to be good.
Mains of fish curry (not to my taste but made ok, not well seasoned) and chicken tikka masala. The CTM was nice, a very good sauce rich in flavour and well prepared. They can clearly make nice tasting food.
Accompaniments were a little stingy - a Naan the size of a small side plate and lacking the promised garlic. Rice was well cooked if a little in the wrong proportions to the curry - should be 1:1 minimum - this was perhaps 1:0.5
A couple of glasses of Pinot, a can of Indian beer (didn’t have the Kingfisher the menu promised) and some sparkling water
All in it cost ~$140 including the tips and taxes
This place can spice food, but seasoning, cookery and service are distinctly middle to low average on our visit
We wouldn’t return, lots of other options.
Reminds us how lucky we are to have world class curry restaurants scattered all over the UK: this was at best an average high street bistro curry joint, perhaps punching pricewise a bit above the food offering.
Shame, had high hopes of finally finding a decent curry in the US
