We dined there last night for our anniversary. It was disappointing. The server was a bit stand-offish, and didn't bother to tell us the menu was on the QR code on the table. He just left us sitting there for over 13 minutes, and when...he asked if we wanted a drink, we said we would like to see the wine list....and he was a tad condescending with the QR reminder. After choosing wine, he asked about our entree choices. We had a few questions about the selections, and it was long into the answers that he mentioned there were a few specials that evening, as an after thought. I ordered the watermelon gazpacho, and it was more of a watermelon water/juice with a few crunchy sprinkles. It was not worth the effort to eat (drink). My husband ordered the scallops, which were lovely. The bread was harder than rocks--not fresh or crusty, just hard and stale. Impossible to cut, dangerous to chew. Our entrees were very good. I had the whole fish, and my husband ordered the halibut. Beautiful presentation, lovely developed sauces and flavors. We ordered a side of the BDT fries, which were divine. It is beautifully decorated, the tables by the window are nicer than the interior ones (a bit dark). Overall, not worth the price. Perhaps a different server would have changed the experience, but the watermelon water for $14 with hard bread started everything badly for us. We enjoyed our own company for our anniversary, but there was nothing special about the restaurant. What a shame.More

I was staying at the Park Hyatt and decided I could not miss the opportunity to eat at the Michelin star winning restaurant. I made a reservation for one. Despite the heat, I decided to sit outside on their patio. I have to say it...was so delightful with the fountain and safely spaced tables. I enjoyed the fresh air without worry. Tibor was my server. Ever-professional and helpful, I absolutely lucked out to have this man that night. He expertly guided me on my wine selection, explaining generous detail and knowledge about each wine I was deliberating between. I sat there for 3 hours, enjoying every course and sip of wine. Tibor even spent a few minutes speaking with me at the end of dinner, talking about wine and his background and our mutual love for Oregon Pinots. I couldn’t have been happier. I had the bone marrow, the duck and the fries. I realize now that all of these options for 1 person is verrry heavy. I might order differently next time (I’m more of a seafood person anyway), but I knew I had to try the dishes that were their claim to fame. Nothing disappointed. I finished off the night with an espresso martini that was incredible.More

Used to be very hard to snag a reservation at this place. After recent reopening, here is the chance, easy booking and street parking. Was my Birthday. They greeted me and wrote it in chocolate on dessert plate, but nothing comped on a $400 bill...for 2 people (before tip). Tables spaces out Service attentive but not overbearing. Expansive wine list, more limited cocktail selections. Our server strongly pushed the off-menu whole duck special. As we both love duck, it was not a hard sell. I like that when not slammed, a kitchen can focus more on each dish. The chef came out to explain the preparation, which was nice of him and a very complicated dish, but there were a couple of flaws in the preparation. At $155, this is a serious price point even for DC fine dining; yes we could have asked before but server could have also alerted as this was way beyond anything on the menu even by X2. So given the sticker shock, it was a nice special meal, but......More

High end service and meal... business dinner with colleagues and tried the sturgeon... it far exceeded what I expected and the sauce over the top was phenomenal as well. The sides were quite phenom as well... crispy brussel sprouts were spectacular and the “French fries”...were quite different and tasty as well.More

This restaurant exceeded my expectations! The atmosphere was alluring and classy, the food exquisite, and our server, Michael, was magnificent! His recommendations made everything about our evening perfect and well worth the trip! I am excited to say that I will be returning within the...week with another family member to celebrate at this West End Gem of a restaurant!More

My wife and I had one night in DC and this restaurant was in our hotel. We did have a reservation, but due to extreme jet lag we asked if we could be seated 45 minutes earlier. There maybe 5 tables occupied in the restaurant...and we were told no - go sit at the bar until your reservation time! We had a couple of their specialty cocktails which were quite well prepared. Service at the bar was OK After we were seated for dinner, service was again OK. The highlight was the interaction with the sommelier. The food was OK - we had the steak and short ribs. I take that back the steak was OK and the short ribs were actually on the tough side. It was an OK experience and I tend to agree with other reviewers that while the restaurant is OK it does not seem to be a Michelin star place.More

Maybe I have changed, but when I sat down to lunch at Blue Duck Tavern I was shocked at the heaviness of the food (even the gem salad came with a pig’s ear). In all it’s just too fussy and fatty for most - and...the prices were extreme. I found the only thing on the menu that I thought I could manage - the crab cakes - which incidentally were only kind of tepid, their flavor was underwhelming and they were accompanied by three leaves of lettuce and one shaved piece of beet. Anyhow, for lunch, with no drink besides water, the tab was $32. That just seems insane. I go out a lot - even $25 seems like a reasonable charge. But $32 for an appetizer for lunch seems overboard. Never mind the limited menu - who wants to eat that kind of food anymore?More

Chose the blue duck Tavern as one of our dinners in Washington DC because at the time it had a Michelin star. To be honest everything but the food was a bit casual for what I’m accustomed to at one star restaurants, so I was...a little surprised. Some diners were seated in shorts & T-shirt at dinner? The hostess was overly casual. Service was friendly, I did enjoy the open concept kitchen. Perhaps I had the impression that it was a bit casual as it’s directly connected to the Hyatt hotel. The food itself was on point, if you enjoy elevated rustic cuisine this is the place for you. Tea lovers rejoice, they have the largest selection of tea in the US. Don’t know that I’d be in a hurry to return but if you’re considering it definitely check it out.More
