Excellent cupcake and European pastry selection

Excellent cupcake and European pastry selection at this Chevy Chase neighborhood bakery. For something unusual, try the passion fruit cupcake. Kosher raisin or plain challah is available daily.

For a place that has bread in the name, I found the bread to have more in common with supermarket bagged bread than fresh baked. The lunch was unremarkable, didn't finish my tuna fish sandwich and my wife's Thai chicken salad had rubbery chicken. Coffee was solid and the service was friendly.

Also has a very good take-out bakery...European-style bakd goods, very nice Napoleons, Danish pastry, rolls and bread. Birthday cakes made to order....

Walking into this restaurant was a great visual experience. My daughter and I were looking forward to having our breakfast served after we read the menu. Unfortunately we were both disappointed with the food. We had the spinach quiche and the very berry pancakes, which neither one of us was able to finish because they were not worth it. However... We were hungry but did not want a big meal because we were having an early dinner. Perfect size portion. Turkey chili. Chicken parm flatbread. Mushroom tart. Panini mozzarella red pepper. Service could have been better and friendlier.

The service sucks. The food is mediocre. The waitress didn't even bring cream with the coffee then once she brought the coffee, she never came back. I had to go find one of the wait staff to get my check.

It's always good here and there are an array of choices, very good service, and a warm atmosphere. I came with my husband and son to celebrate first time voting at 18. It was nice.

For 32 years, Bread & Chocolate has been a community institution on the northwest corner of Washington, a couple of blocks down Connecticut Avenue from Chevy Chase, MD. It is an amiable, popular café where neighbors, from parents with strollers to men and women with business to do, meet for breakfast, coffee and lunch. Late weekend mornings, when the tables... I tried this place for carryout dessert. Ordered the bread pudding and they heated it up for me to go. Very tasty. The cupcakes looked good. Expected to see more chocolate on display???

Out of breakfast potatoes at 12:30 Sunday brunch? When there is a Safeway across the street and a Magruder's next door, one cannot be out of potatoes to serve one's guests. As to the food we did get: meh.
