Bread & Chocolate has been around since the 70's, and it hasn't changed all that much: same pastries, similar but modernized mix of breakfast dishes, salads, & soups; same pleasant mural in the back corner; same steep flight of steps down to the bathrooms; same mystery as to where the kitchen is (the waitresses must get a real workout going... I saw many folks sitting enjoying a relaxing meal outdoor in front of the restaurant so I decided to take a break and have lunch. I ordered the salmon salad and the chocolate diamond for dessert. The salmon was excellent and the dressing was wonderful. The dessert was fresh and pretty good although a little dry for my taste. The... More

We had a family brunch. The service was slow but ok when it is a nice day to sit outdoor talking. The staff were quite busy so it took a few reminders to get refills on coffee and water. But they were friendly. The food is unremarkable. The omelettes pretty standard. I had pear, cheese, and bacon on bread. A... More

This little cafe did the trick for a nice Friday brunch. Wait staff was attentive and friendly, food was even better. Great bakery along with the nice restaurant, and also shaded outdoor seating.

I have been meeting friends here for more than 10 years. Sometimes the service is good, sometimes not. The food is usually good and always kind of interesting. The bread, cakes, and pastries are delicious. There is enough space to allow diners to linger over coffee, and the noise level allows real conversation. What is great is that the walk... More

This is a great place to meet for breakfast with many good choices although the menu is not too big. However, the pastries in the case look wonderful and would go well for a breakfast treat or with tea in the afternoon.

Had breakfast - service was the fastest I've ever had anywhere. Food was served hot and was delicious. Would eat here anytime. Desserts and breads that were for sale looked amazing.

I hate to give a bad review, because service is great...but we were so disappointed. I had a good cappuccino and they do give you a great bread basket. That is where the positives end. We came for breakfast. Baked goods look great but do not taste like much. Breakfast was small portioned and not prepared well(oily eggs, hard egg... More

Was here once before, a year or two ago. This time we hit lunch hour and they really needed at least one more server. I had an omelet; my wife had a Mediterranean Panini. Mine was okay; hers was very good. Split an eclair -- dry. Memory recalls their baked goods were better earlier in the day.

Before going to this restaurant on Conn. Ave., I checked Trip Advisor and I think I should have paid closer to the guest review which said it was good for bread and chocolate only. Or another which just praised the omelets. I ordered the Southwestern Chicken Panini. Worst sandwich I ever had. Inedible.
