We had a great meal here last night! We struggled to decide which dish we enjoyed most. Grilled lobster and red snapper were perfectly done, shrimp and grits were creamy and beautifully seasoned. The lemon chess pie had a nice balance of sweet and tart,...and the chocolate angel food with caramel sauce was light and delicious. Service was perfectly attentive and helpful. We were a little annoyed not to have been warned that we could only order from the pre fixe menu, but it turned alright in spite of it.More

Living in the neighborhood and not being a meat eater, it is always a pleasure to go to Johnny’s Half shell. Favorite is crab cakes. Small portion, but delicious. Have never had a bad or less than great meal there.

We went here for dinner with another couple, and really enjoyed ourselves. Our waitress was very knowledgeable and a lot of fun. We shared three different appetizers, and all of them were good. I had the schnitzel even though it's a seafood restaurant. It was...fair, not outstanding. Pre-dinner cocktails were very enjoyable. I'd go back again and try the seafood this time.More

This area of Adams Morgan has a number of cute little places but Johnny's is a great go-to here. Service is the star and the food is very good. Outside seating is nice if weather permits but the inside seating area is cozy. Our wait...staff was great at helping with menu choices and the service was "Johnny on the spot." Food was very good. Grilled calamari is a standout and the lobster roll good. Crab cakes are only fair. This is a seafood place so we didn't order anything but and were not disappointed in any way. Never felt rushed; service seemed to be at our table's pace.More

I ordered rib-eye steak and got the NY strip instead. The bartender and the chef insisted that it was the rib-eye. After the third time insisting that it was the rib-eye and not even getting the manager to settle the problem, the bartender got mad...and took my steak and took it off the bill.More

We took our 10 year old granddaughter to Washington and to Johnny’s Half Shell for dinner. Food is outstanding and service was absolutely great. Started with Oysters on the Half Shell and Softshell Crabs as a main course (and yes, she ate everything). Prices are...inline with food and service. You can’t go wrong at Johnny’s.More

One of our friends chose Johnny's and we were glad she did. It is an informal place, a bit loud but friendly. Our food was excellent. My wife had scallops, which she pronounced to be outstanding. I had the crab cake, fried, which was large...and flavorful. Our server, Nancy F., was attentive and very helpful. I would recommend Johnny's highly to anyone going to D.C.More

Made a 7:30 PM reservation. Got a call to confirm our arrival in the afternoon. Got a text to confirm our arrival just before scheduled seating. Showed up on time to be told we could not be seated for at least 15 minutes even at...one of the dozen empty tables. Told we could "stand" in overflowing crowded bar. NO THANKS. I do not know what their issue was, but never got an explanation for our delay. I would have expected a complementary glass of wine at least for the inconvenience. Went 2 doors down to Mintwood Restaurant; were seated immediately and had a wonderful meal.More
