About
Teaism is a locally-owned, asian-inspired restaurant. We cook from scratch with fresh, healthy ingredients. There are lots of vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options on our menu. Teaism is a great place to meet a friend but also a welcoming environment for people dining alone. We love to cater breakfast and lunch for close-by offices. Our menu features close to 50 different teas and herbal infusions and we make one of the best boba teas in DC.

I loved this little quick service restaurant. It was between the National Mall and our hotel, so it was easy to stop there after a day of touring museums. I'm so glad we found it because it was affordable and had healthy choices for vegans....We loved it so much that we ate there 4 times during our 12 day trip! My favorite thing was the Beet Patty Bento ($15) with a bean & quinoa patty, steamed broccoli with orange dressing, and a sweet potato drizzled with miso sauce. For dessert they had vegan ginger scones. So yummy! It's hard to eat healthy and on a budget when on vacation so this was the perfect place!More

i have been a customer since the first one opened in DuPont circle. they are always consistent with their menu and portions. i have ordered repeatedly from the Penn Quarter location and no one seems to get it right each time. I called and asked...for a dressing to be delivered with my order because last time I ordered, I received my salad without it. the manager said “i will give you a dressing this time, but we usually do not” “not all locations are the same”. Poor, poor customer service. DuPont location will always get my patronage. Too bad. Next time don’t make it my problem that I asked for one single dressing with my order. Management needs to check theirselves.More

On a rainy day after a visit to the National Gallery (now both east and west wings are open with timed entry) it wasn't easy looking for a place nearby to have a bite since both the Starbucks and the Paul Bakery on Penn Ave...I've been to before are now closed. But then we stumbled upon Teaism at the corner of 8th and D. I wasn't really expecting anything more than a drink and pastries but it turned out they have bento boxes which were just perfect for a late lunch (they also have cookies but they look rather dense and hard). Service was pretty quick - counter ordering and food was ready for pickup in less than 10 minutes. The place is not big so for seating there are a few distanced tables inside and two small tables outside with umbrella cover. We had the beef and salmon bentos, which came with rice, sweet potatoes and pickled cucumbers. The beef was a bit tough but the salmon was tender and delicious. My friends also raved about the iced soba cha which was quite refreshing. Considering the lack of food options in the vicinity of the museums this is a pretty good find so will definitely keep it in mind for our next visit to the area. Aside from the teahouse there is also a small shop next door where you can get loose leaf tea as well as a variety of Asian gift items.More

Stopped in for a quick lunch; wasn't expecting much. Was really surprised by the menu choices and the quality of the food. I had okonomiyaki which, while it's not the same as eating in Japan, was really good! A friend had the curry and gave...it thumbs up, too. I'd definitely go back again.More

After a visit to see the Judy Chicago exhibit at the Women’s Museum, we walked over to Teaism for some light dinner. It has the gestalt if a Starbucks but MUCH better food options, both breakfast and lunch/dinner. I got the Udon Noodle soup with...chicken: tasty and hot...very satisfying with rich noodles. For people who absolutely require very quiet dining space, they have a large downstairs area.More

Best part of the menu - "trash or treasure" - wish every restaurant would do this. Disappointed though - I ordered the "cabbage butts" - I was served bok choy and broccoli. It's okay if they were out of cabbage butts but they should have...said something. I also ordered the salmon belly and collard stems - portion was really small, I thought I would get more stems at least. Everything tasted great. Fantastic selection of teas (obviously) and staff was very friendly and helpful. Nice casual atmosphere, cool Koi pond.More

These guys know what they are doing. Strangely put together dishes which all seem to work. The Korean Brisket Sandwich, Our Dream Salad and the Vegan cheeseburger (in no way am I vegan!!) all hit the mark. The coconut mango rice pudding is ........ seriously...just try it! And the tea! So many, so confusing but if that's your thing, one of these concoctions is as good as the next. I can drink a pot of the stuff with no real idea of what's in it. That's why I say .... these guys know what they're doing.More

We're really touched Brian - thanks for the review. It's so surprising - the number of non-vegans who are in love with the vegan cheeseburger. I hope you'll visit again soon - try the okonomiyaki - it's sooo good.

My daughter wanted to find a DC tea shop near the hotel. There were 2, one without a tea shop (with tea and tea items) and one without. We obviously, had to visit the one where we could eat and shop. When you walk in...the restaurant you'll find yourself with a seat yourself, go to the counter to order, go to another counter to pick up and even bus your table at the end. Normally, we might not appreciate that type of environment, but it works here. The chef and staff are passionate about the selections and gave each of us a thorough rundown on our food options. And as for the tea...wow, the tastes were all over, from light and airy to dark and heavy. The good news is that each of us ordered a different kind and they made sure we knew which was which when we picked up our meal/tea. Afterward, it's a must to go to the tea shop where you can by the ingredients to brew at home.More
