My friend and I came here for dinner right before we enter the city. I noticed this place because I can read the Chinese writing while on Rt 50. I knew the specialty here should be northwestern Chinese cuisine (Xi'an type of food) and therefore...I ordered the famous "Biang Biang Mian" (noddles mixed with dry spices, oil with a touch of vinegar). We both loved this dish. Another dish I ordered was "Vermicelli with Minced Pork". This Chinese name of the dish is "ants climbing up the tree". The ants are supposed to be the minced pork and the tree the vermicelli. When you pick up some vermicelli the pork that is stuck with the vermicelli looks like little ants climbing up and hence the name. The dish is very good. I was wondering if there will be enough flavor in it and it has tons of flavor. My friend and I wanted to come back in the future.More
Definitely hit the spot. Ordered around 9 from uber eats. Food tasted fresh. presentation was nice. I do wish there was water chestnuts in the vegetable lo mein that I ordered. Also more than one fortune cookie would have been nice. There were no soy...sauce packets in the bag and the noodles definitely needed them. Luckily I had some- but overall a good experience. I would definitely order from them againMore
Some friends from Boston came to spend the Thanksgiving with us and invited us to the restaurant last evening. I was surprised because it was within walking distance. One of the friends was from China and he ordered the food. I liked everything you'll see...in the pictures, except for the tofu soup. They enjoyed it. Maybe I wasn't used to it!More
The food was so-so. Service was horrible. The manager even had the audacity to chase after us and demanded more tips. Can you believe that? Ridiculous and unprofessional. Will not go back again.
It is a strange location...adjacent to a Days Inn but the food was delicious and authentic. Come with a group to really appreciate the lazy Susan in the center of the round tables! Can be adventuresome or play it safe...there is something for everyone
This restaurant has a reputation for great food. Even served a dish to the China Premiere. It is in an unlikely location attached to a Days Inn in NE DC. The food is 'authentic' in that it is not americanized and the food is prepared...much like it would be in China. The Rogue Mo (meet in bread) was supposedly served to the China Premiere. It was good, but I was expecting something more 'spectacular' or unique. The scallion pancakes were greasy and the steamed dumplings were tasty buy were almost lat (like raviloli). Some of the dishes can be very spicy so be careful if this is an issue for you. The sweet and sour fish was excellent. I enjoyed our meal here and wold come back but I would place it in 'legendary' status - just a really good chinese restaurant.More
Uber delivered my food for Panda Gourmet. Driver was very nice. Food was gross, General Tso's Chicken tasted like it was made yesterday and microwaved. The worst I have ever had. Rice was likely from the bottom of the pot, dry and not so good....Looks better than it tasted. Pic is from my garbage can. The rest is underneath. I spit most of what I tried out.More
My roommate and I got very excited because we heard great reviews about Panda Gourmet. We were craving wonton and hot and sour soup so we ordered some for pickup. Paying about 4.50 per soup we got home and discovered the broth tasted slightly like...bacon and with little other flavour. With 4 wontons per soup. So we paid 8 dollars for 8 wontons and 4 dollars for bacon flavoured soup. There were no vegetables in the wonton soup... so we had to add our own veggies to make it remotely tolerable. Would not recommend this place... or at least ordering their soups.More
I never would have found Panda Gourmet unless I had read a website that focussed on fantastic cheap eats. Glad I did. This place is fantastic. Located on the ground floor of a Days Inn, this place is where you'd last expect to find it....In fact, it's last where you'd expect to find anyplace you'd want to eat. It's flanked by a gas station, a really busy road and train tracks. Luckily, it's also flanked by a large parking lot. Food here is authentic - at least according to the my Chinese nanny as well as many of the folks who eat there and know better. My personal favorites are the dry chili chicken, the chinese burger and the sautéed fish filets. They are happy to customize food based on your taste and will guide you if you have questions. Get there early (before 6:30 for dinner) or you'll have to wait for a table.More
Went with my wife who isn't an adventurous eater so couldn't try much. The hot and sour soup was perfect. My Szechuan beef was also very good but little oily. The place is in a sketchy area and not very nice. All the other diners...were Chinease which is a good sign.More
I've enjoyed eating here over the last 2 years. Cool story about how they opened and legitimate Chinese food. Looking forward to another no frills lunch.
One of the best authentic Chinese restaurants of have been to in the U.S. Don’t expect fancy as it is a somewhat noisy relaxed place, but the food is terrific. Of special note is the boiled fish in chili sauce, the spicy eggplant, dan dan noodles...with pork, and the spicy popcorn chicken, all of which were main courses. All quite excellent. We had been told that the lamb skewers were great but we found them nothing special and the hot and sour soup was of the style that was heavy on the sesame oil so you have to like that style. I suspect many of the other main courses are excellent as well. Definitely the best Chinese restaurant in D.C. that we have been to. The restaurant is kind of in the middle of no place on New York Avenue NE where there are mainly cheap hotels and warehouses and such. It is located in a Days Inn. But for sure don’t let that turn you off. The wait staff speak little to no English. It is really worth the trek. And go hungry because you should try as many dishes as possible.More
Panda Gourmet specializes in Sichuan and Shaanxi cuisine. I had a Saturday lunch there. Wontons in chili oil were a piquant tasting appetizer. Fish and silken tofu in hot chili oil was appropriately spicy and numbing. Portions were very sizable. Service was pleasant and efficient....I appeared to be the only non-Asian in the restaurant at the time if that is indicative of authenticity. Recommended.More
First visit to DC looking for a good Chinese restaurant. The reviews said this was the place in DC to go. It was a pretty long taxi ride from downtown. Great chance to get into a debate about politics with the taxi driver. But it...was all good. The dumplings were great, the Tsingtao was great, the staff was great and my wife's glass of wine was great. My wife and I like spicy food so we can handle it pretty hot. I don't remember what my wife ordered but it looked good on the menu photo but omg too many red peppers. Usually they are left whole so you can at least pick them out but these were chopped up. No way to eat it. I like trying new things so I ordered Chicken with Curry Sauce and it was okay. We've eaten plenty of Chinese food, some okay and some really good. For the "authentic" experts this may be the real deal. But it wasn't to our liking. Sorry just my opinion. The price of the meals were very reasonable but we didn't like the food we ordered so I gave the value a three.More
