very small potions now, odd people- random customers- walking around food prep areas since the counter that would have blocked them has been removed, higher prices but all of the salads and platters have shrunk- one olive?

Love the lamb shank, kabobs, and the koshari. Almost impossible to beat the combination of quality and price here. The interior of the restaurant could use some updating, but who cares-- the food is delicious!

This place is a complete hole in the plant but let me tell you the food was fantastic. Incredibly cold inside, don't know if the heater wasn't working or if they were saving money but it was freezing inside. Wore out coats the whole time....Parking was an issue but that's not the restaurants fault. Pack some patience when you head over because parking will take a bit. Food was great, great hummus, good soft pita but you could tell it wasn't made fresh but no biggie. Lamb, chicken and beef were food and well seasoned. Good rice that was flavorful and abundant. Couldn't finish the whole meal there was so much food. People behind the counter were very nice and warm. MGMore

We did take out from here because our kids were so tired and really just wanted to swim in the hotel pool. Food was great, we all enjoyed. Excellent falafel, the pizza, salad, and gyros were great also. Easy 10 min walk from Washington Hilton...to pick up.More

We ordered an Astor vegetarian and mixed kebob. We absolutely loved it even though the rice was not brilliant, 3 people couldn't tell what the chickpea sauce was made of and the dining area was, well, clean but unattractive. At least you could look at...the food, there was space and the staff were mostly happy. We also ordered an imported beer from the menu (no longer available), then we tried to order a wine from the menu (no longer available), then we tried to order an expresso (no longer available, grrr, getting tired of asking for things that aren't available). The flavour of everything was absolutely great. I even are the eggplant which I usually hate and really enjoyed it. My man likes flavour and he says 'loved it'.More

Avoid this place. I live near by and have gotten for to go for nearly twenty years. The change of staff and shrinking potions were bad enough, but today I waited an unusually long time (just two employees) for a Greek salad, that was missing...many of the usual items, including the stuffed grape leaves, cucumber etc.. To top it off the owner/manager would only give me one more tiny container of salad dressing, and that was filled up only a third. I don't know what's going on with this place. sad decline.More

We enjoyed a gyro, shawarma and eggplant salad at Astor. The service was slower considering we were the one of two customers, but perhaps it was because it was 9 and they close at 10. Will try again during our next visit.

Astor International Cuisine was originally Astor Mediterranean. But somehow, they became more renowned for their pizza, and indeed, the pies are way superior to the mediocre mediterrranean fare. (It's been a gradual process -- I believe the kebabs used to be a lot better than...they have been lately.). Both the meat and the veggie options are excellent. Take out is the way to go -- there are a few tables for in-house dining, but the place is really not set up for that. In warmer weather, the sidewalk tables are pleasant.More

We visited for lunch and ordered the beef souvlaki sandwich and the chicken kabob (served with rice and Egyptian salad). My sandwich was $6.50; it was delicious and very filling. The kabob meal was $10 and while the chicken was very good, there were only...4 small cubes and the rice that came with it was rather bland. To be fair, we've eaten at a few mediterranean restaurants in the DC area and have been disappointed in the rice every time. The mediterranean restaurants in our home city add spices such as sumac, cumin, corriander, cinnamon, termeric, etc. Not sure which style is more authentic. I don't think I'd go out of my way to eat here again, but if I were in the neighborhood I'd stop in to try another of their sandwiches.More

After living in the neighborhood for 8 years I've visited Astor too many times to count. While it offers some very delicious items there are a few things to note: - some of their food is pretty pricey for carryout - the wait is FOREVER,...even if you call ahead - the food is inconsistent - when it's great it's great, but when it's bad it's terrible (i.e. hamburger meat, chicken brined too long sometimes, dry meat) That being said I do continue to visit Astor, but only order certain items when I know that I will have 20+ minutes to wait for my order.More
