This restaurant is exactly what I think of for a small Italian restaurant. It is relatively small with tables close together in the basement of a building the heart of the Dupont Circle area. I dined alone at 8:30pm on Thursday night, and the restaurant was not crowded but not deserted either. The service was excellent. The menu had lots... More

Excellent (albeit expensive) Italian food with creative dishes, particularly the specials. Service is fine, although perhaps not as truly helpful as it could be (staff kept deflecting real answers about dishes to say everything is great). The room is not too loud (big plus and unusual these days), so you can have a real conversation over dinner. But, when I... More

My husband took me here for a birthday dinner on a recent trip to DC, and it was perfect. I was raised across the street from my Italian grandparent's bakery in Pittsburgh, and I have high standards when it comes to Italian food in general, and Al Tiramisu meet every expectation I have. First, the restaurant is in an unassuming... More

My wife and I stayed in a hotel near DuPont Circle for three nights, and on the first night stumbled upon Al Tiramisu. It looked a little pricey given the clothes we were wearing, and we lacked a reservation on what was a busy night, but the hostess found us a table and made us feel right at home. I... More

Went with family and I must say that though it's a small restaurant and tables are very very close to each other it turned to give you a cozy feeling and it was not noisy. We all ate pasta and portions were the right size. Pasta was al dente, sauces were perfect, panne was excellent, wine was exquisite. So we... More

Italian restaurants should be informal and welcoming, not uptight and pretentious.A short menu is OK, but when a long list of 'specials' was delivered by a waiter in an incomprehensible accent a long way from Italy and also a long way from USA it was impossible to take it all in. And there was therefore no clue as to what... More

Very good food and friendly service. We had prosciutto with figs - excellent, petto d'anatra (duck breast) and ravioli cacciocavallo (filled with chard and cheese) with a bottle of Rosso di Montalcino. All nicely presented and very good. Busy and a bit noisy the evening we visited.

Went to Al Tiramisu' so many times, I know almost all the items on the menu and I simply love it. The atmosphere is warm and cozy, nice and attentive service and the food is so delicious that calls you back often.

It's easy to miss the unassuming signage of Al Tiramisu. Inside, it's a small, intimate place, with plenty of space between tables. Service is friendly and informative. The menu is less extensive than most Italian restaurants, and as usual, split between antipasti, primo piatti and secondo piatti. We shared a creamy burrata and a delicious baked Fontina cheese. A dish... More
