While not a cheap dining experience the food and wine certainly exquisite. The food was faultless, service impeccable. Lobster bisque and sweetbreads were stunning. The fillet mignon was tender, duck with cassis, lamb rack and pepper steak all beautifully prepared. No extra sides required. The first place we experienced that the waiter filled in the gratuity before giving us the invoice.

We hadn't been here in close to 20 years, so wee first surprised to find it still here. Secondly, even more surprised to find that it is still outstanding! Menu has plenty of diverse selections of excellent seafood, meat, and veggie options. Terrific service, attentive, but not intrusive. A very good choice for a quiet dinner with friends, a special... Second visit to this cozy Georgetown refuge. Not quite the season for the fireplace in the main dining room, but the atmosphere still transports, and DC seems a thousand miles away. Conscientious service pairs with well prepared traditional French fare. Server recommended the pork special, which was tender and topped with a flavorful savory sauce. Guinea hen special was also... My husband and I had our anniversary dinner here, since we got engaged in Paris I was feeling nostalgic and made reservations. They were very sweet and lit a candle in my dessert for our anniversary. The restaurant was not crowded, but the tables were very close to each other, so everyone heard everyone elses conversations. The wine list is... More

My husband and I made reservations for La Chaumiere for our anniversary. When we arrived we were seated right away, although the restaurant was very cramped and tables were seated righted on top of each other. It took a while (roughly 20) minutes to place our order but our meal was excellent. My duck was beautifully cooked and the lamb... More

Amazed that this place is always packed. I ordered the calf liver. The waiter returned ten minutes later to inform me they didn't have any (that's called poor service). I had the sweetbreads instead. They were fine but at $31 slightly overpriced. My friend had the venison. It was good, but not great, and overcooked. The wines are very expensive.... More

La Chaumiere has been around seemingly forever, and still hits the right notes for dinner. Friday night dinner overall was very good, with scallops and venison as highlights. Dessert of flourless chocolate cake less so, but the apple souffle was supreme. One hiccup: I requested a daiquiri but was told "we don't do frozen drinks." Hello, I didn't ask for... More

This tiny Georgetown stalwart feels like home. The Dover Sole, quenelles, soft shell crabs and cassoulet on Thursdays are hard to top anywhere. The ambiance is French bistro and the waiters are experienced professionals. When we want a comfortable dining experience at a reasonable price this place is our first choice.

We had a family dinner. While there was only one child in the restaurant the staff was very good with our child. Old world French. Service was very good. I think we order things that weren't their best. Foie gras - need sides to partner with foie. Lobster bisque too thick and didn't taste good. Soft shell crab was a... More
