Traditional homestyle French cooking that is delivers. A cozy ( get a seat near the open fireplace) ambiance with professional service. The fish dishes in particular shine brightest but anything you order will come out well prepared The only "knock" is that the vegetables side that accompany many dishes are uninspired - an after thought really.

We went for wife's birthday. Decent French restaurant by USA standards. Like many restaurants in the USA the food comes really quickly and so you don't get a breather between courses. 'Romantic' is very hard under such circumstances.

We have eaten here a number of times with large parties over the past sixteen years. They have an upstairs as well as a room off of the main area that are good for such dining. The main food is fresh, and absolutely delicious! We have never been disappointed with our food or service!

I had the pleasure of dining at La Chaumiere with two friends on a recent trip to D.C. This was my first time and I will definitely be back. The character and charm are perfect for the fantastic French meals one gets here. We started with oysters and went on to French onion soup and our main course. It was... More

Typical American restaurant trying to be French. We were a group of three who had dinner here on a Tuesday evening after local recommendations. We had a table close to the fireplace, which was nice - and the restaurant was fairly busy. The fish soup was fine. One person had the liver main course, which was popular amongst the guests.... This is my first visit to la Chaumiere since I lived in Washington years ago. It hasn't changed. It is still one of the most pleasant dining experiences if you're looking for perfectly done french bistro fare. The atmosphere is cozy, the service is attentive, professional yet unobtrusive. The bisque is made from lobster bodies and is good as you'll... More

New Year's Eve, we did not have reservations and they were full. But they rearranged things and gave us a table for 2 hours. They never rushed us and we felt welcome. The host and the staff chatted with us and were very attentive. The venison was outstanding and the profiterolles excellent. One of the best New Year eve dinner... More

The classics remain but Chef is talented and I tried two dishes that weren't on the menu before. There was the rock fish perfect in a creamy fennel For an appetizer there was a wonderful smoked trout and house made gravalax in a dill sauce with sweet beet strings. The grand marnier soufflé is always perfect. The ambience is always... More

This is a lovely French bistro-style restaurant. The environment was very pleasant, the service quick and friendly, yet still relaxed so that we did not feel rushed in the slightest. Most important, the food was delicious. My wife and I both had salads, two of the evening specials, wine and desert, and we were pleased with everything. We live nearby... More
