Mixed reviews on the food

Yes, we went in search of the traditional dessert Grand Marnier with chocolate sauce and that met our highest expectations. The apple tart with caramel sauce was delicious too. Both require an extra twenty minutes time preparation which was fine. Two of us ordered the steak au poivre and was... read more

We went to La Chaumiere for my 56th Birthday. I was a little disappointed that they didn't do anything special after I annotated the reservation that it was a birthday dinner. However, the food is excellent, right sized, right priced and absolutely delicious. The service was attentive but not intrusive. The restaurant appears to be a hole in the wall,... More

A traditional French bistro offering excellent food in a convivial atmosphere. Nothing trendy or flashy here, just good value and people of all ages enjoying themselves. Baked oysters with spinach and hazelnuts a treat, and the quenelles de brochet feather-light and better than any I've had in France. They really need to do something about their bread, though. It was... More

La Chaumiere has been around forever -- like more than 40 years -- and it still delivers. You leave the busy streets of Georgetown and enter a country inn, likely packed with regulars. Classic French offerings, in large portions (!), with excellent, attentive service by French servers. We enjoyed the quenelle and the pheasant; the salmon en croute was crusty... More

I had wanted to try this restaurant for years. Three days ago I finally made it! I was not disappointed. The food was delicious. I had a salad with fresh greens, haricort vert, shredded beets and a crostini with warm goat cheese. Yum! My friend had the escargoe that were equally great. Our entrees were the pork chop for her... Only in Washington for two nights and this is where we go! Scallops Provençal were the best I ever had. Baked oysters were delicious. Can't go wrong in this cozy French nest!

My wife and I first visited La Chaumiere in the early 1980's. Since then we've come intermittently...but our experience has never changed. In short, we love it. I must admit that some of the recent reviews had me worried. Had service and/or food declined in quality? Nonetheless we went for a Friday night date night. Nothing has chaged. From the... More

Very disappointed! The pate looked like a slice of spam and tasted like pickles. My husband's fish was cold and had to be sent back. The table next to us sent their food back too. They have a fireplace but basically use it as a service station and stack up silverware and water pitchers on it, so no fireplace...I ordered... More

I loved this place. Calf's liver very good with oysters to start. My guest had duck and enjoyed very much. Highly recommended. Finish with cheese plate and 18 year Calvados.
