Very simple place at the U St, traditional for its hot dogs. The owner Ben witnessed the racial conflicts in the 60s. Martin Luther King, Ella Fitzgerald and more recently Obama, figures among the clients. Really good food.
I guess it's sort of famous? I thought it was fine but nothing I'd ever need to return for. The spicy half smoke was very good, but the chili was barely warm and the folks working could not cared less if anyone was there. The...More

The fries and chili, both regular and vegetarian are gluten free. I'm gf and eat there regularly. I also get a half smoke in a plate, no bun, with the works. Ask them to split it and the grill it twice... Nice and crispy!
