My wife and I went to 1789 for an early celebration of our anniversary while in DC; we were both extremely happy we did. 1789 is well-suited to provide one of those once-in-a-lifetime experiences that you will never forget. The service was impeccable, the food heavenly, and 2-1/2 hours passed in no time. The portion sizes are suited for the... More

I followed a business invitation during a conference in September this year and was caught by the exceptional quality of the food and wine at 1789 Restaurant in Washington Georgetown. This restaurant is truely unique and highly recommendable. If you look for good service, a cosy atmosphere and a warm sort of living room style to sit, relax and enjoy... More

Our kids got married at Georgetown in the chapel and we were looking for a good place to have a rehearsal dinner. The kids knew and liked THE TOMBS, so the restaurant right there was a logical choice. But it was an unknown and we were planning the dinner from 400 miles away. It could not have gone better. The... It is being called price fixed but it is far more liberal than that. One can choose a certain number of courses for a fixed price and choose as many from any category as you want. Or, you can choose one from one, two or there (the price fixed begins with four courses) and pay the price of that category.... More

55 years in business in a quiet section of Georgetown, this is truly a special occasion type of place. Classical cooking, heavily influenced by the French. Try the foie gras, fish dishes are wonderful as is the beef. Save room for a dessert creation. .

This is one of Washington's iconic dining establishments, elegant and refined. The quality of the food has always been excellent, but after a summer shut down to repair the roof and enhance the kitchen, the owners have tweaked the formula a bit. Now there's a tasting menu of four, five or six courses, but our server didn't make clear whether... More

It's hard to comprehend as you walk in this is a restaurant. It feels like a gorgeously appointed period home. Oh wait! That's just what it is! The integrity of the architecture and furnishings are pristine but you're welcomed into a 21st century dining experience. Fresh, locally sourced foods crafted elegantly and delish. We enjoyed our cozy evening. The only... More
