I have been dining here for 50 years. Part nostalgia, having grown up in D.C. Part, it's just worth returning to! Clyde's retained the original feeling of the restaurant and the food has always been above average.

We visited 1789 Restaurant to celebrate our sons graduation . We were a group of 9 and made a reservation to guarantee a special celebration experience . The general atmosphere looked interesting at first but we were seated near a busy servers station on a booth type table that wasn't very comfortable. ( For such and expensive place the minimum... The service at 1789 is absolutely outstanding, from the greeting at the door to the impeccable wait staff. Unfortunately, I have had better fare for the price. The soft shell crab 2d course that I shared with someone was very nice, but the entree - a sea bass with a few fiddleheads - was cooked nicely but pretty much bland... More

1789 is set in a beautiful period home, you feel like you are stepping back in time as soon as you enter. However in terms of the food, it is definitely a modern take on dishes that offer something surprising and totally delicious. The stand out dish for me was the soft-shell crab, that was deep fried and came with... More

Dinner after a Saturday graduation at Georgetown for my neice. Very lovely venue. Each room is charming. We had a large party of 8. They seated us in the upstairs room that seemed to be for large parties. Very nice service. I would love to explore the other rooms and if I return will ask to be seated in the... More

This is a very good restaurant located in a charming old building with lots of atmosphere. The food is very good and the staff were friendly and helpful. We were a little concerned that it might be stuffy, but it wasn't at all. We felt very much at home and really enjoyed the night.

My husband and I enjoyed a very memorable evening here absolutely loving our lamb, steak and chocolate desert choices. The ambience and interior architecture was such a treat as was the tour after our delicious meal around the different dining rooms on different floors. The staff were very friendly and attentive and I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone... More

While our daughter went to Georgetown, we never visited this restaurant as I guess we wanted to keep the best for last - and the graduation party. We were not disappointed at all. The restaurant spread over 3 levels has a sense of history and romance. The food is classy and worth the price that they charge. We tried the... More

We visited here with family I hadn't seen for over 20 years, and we all left totally satisfied. The building in this unassuming part of Georgetown is amazing on its on. There are so many different areas that at first you don't realise how much is going on. My octopus starter was first rate, albeit a huge portion. Everyone else... More

The setting is remarkable, in an 18th Century building that pre-dates much of Washington, DC. Multiple, small and intimate dining rooms are arranged vertically in this historic building. Furnishings and artwork are period pieces. My wife and I ate at the same table where President Barak Obama and German Chancellor Merkel recently dined. The menu offers a multi-course option, with...
