This restaurant tucked away off the main street is apparently popular with graduating students when their parents treat them. The reception is courteous but not speedy which can cause problems at popular times when many people (well, more than 4) arrive at the same time. The service is classy (serving and removing from the correct sides) but the food is... More

Old world charm at its best. Setting better than the food. Foie gras torchon too salty, beef tartar nice but too salty, the crab fondue with uni was nice though there was way too much mashed potato - a small plate of mashed potato with crab on top. Bucatini with chicken livers just ok they should have refined the sauce... More

Very large wine list. Very fine dining Excellent food and very good service. Parking is super easy and it is in a great neighborhood in Georgetown. This is a restaurant where the portions are not large but excellently prepared with great care and love. Take your time and savor everything. Venue is fantastic

This is an upscale, special occasion restaurant, although it would be easy to make it a regular stop.

The 1789 has been around for years and is always great. But be warned, it is expensive. Parking is difficult so opt for the valet service.

Went here with my mother and sisters to celebrate my mother's birthday. From the start we had too many people fussing over us and many people milling about with no clear purpose. They offer a four, five or six course dinner. We opted for the four course dinner. The timing was off for the delivery of each course. In addition,... More

This is a lovely restaurant for our small family Thanksgiving where we all enjoyed a traditional turkey dinner. The turkey was moist and delicious which is sometimes not the case when eatiing out on the holiday. Cocktails were a generous pour and the Manhattans were great. My husband and I are looking forward to returning on a future vacation to... More

Four of us attended for Thanksgiving dinner, and wound up ordering from the ala carte menu, regardless. This is a very special restaurant, with several rooms that provide a feeling of intimacy of warmth. We were seated in the bar area which equaled any five-star private room, so that gives you a sense of well the restaurant is designed. Beautiful... More

My wife and I had dinner at 1789 as part of our mini vacation to D.C. I was a bit apprehensive going in due to many of the reviews regarding the portions and the cost. As many have mentioned, the restaurant is located in Georgetown in a beautiful building. The ambiance is exquisite. We were escorted to our table in... More

We travel to DC a couple of times of year but finally returned to 1789 after many years. We had a delightful experience and felt the pricing was comparable to fine restaurants in San Francisco where we live. The flexibility of the "tasting" menu was good--I had 2 starters--foie gras & scallops with bucatini--which were delicious, the lobster as my... More
