What I love is the abundance of choices (vegetarian and non) in meze and entrees as well as how incredibly accommodating the staff are. We were early for our reservation. The waiter offered us a choice of outside or in. We chose outside but the sun was going down fast and as women often do, we changed our minds. We... More

The restaurant itself is far nicer inside that it would appear from the outside. The food is decent and the service is decent (if a bit slow). The central criticism I have is that it is overpriced. The shish taouk and shish kebab, for instance, consist of rather small portions of chicken, virtually no veggies (some token pieces), and some... More

I was in town for a conference and this restaurant was within walking distance. It also is in a neighborhood where I felt safe walking at night. I had Jab Bil: Half Chicken, Lemon, Vermicelli Rice. It was very tasty and perfectly cooked. I had to ask for pita. I loved the ambience of the dining room, especially the 'watering... More

I'm pretty sure I visited The Calvert Cafe (now Mama Ayesha's) in the 70s on a family trip to DC. What a pleasure to be back after so much time and once again enjoy delicious Middle Eastern food. One can easily make a meal of mezzes and salads here, but the rice dishes are not to be missed. Our server... More

haven't been here for 20 years. came with a group of 5 and ordered mostly mezzas and one lamb shishkabob. The mezzas were terrific - we loved them all: tabouleh, kibbe, kalaya (ground lamb - my favorite), hummus with lamb, grape leaves with lamb. The shishkabob was the lest interesting. Service was excellent. Server was interested and kind. based on... More

This restaurant is vastly overpriced for what you get, and the attitude of the server was indifferent at best. The chow is on par with the run-of-the-mill fast falafel joints in town, served with no personality. I wouldn't go back or recommend this place. There are too many good middle eastern restaurants in this big city, just check Trip Advisor.

I have loved this restaurant for many years. I recently took some colleagues here for a work dinner and did not have nearly as good of an experience as previous visits. This was driven primarily by service; our server was disinterested in helping us navigate the menu and offered responses to basic questions asked by the group that bordered on... More

I would really recommend this place if you're looking for something traditional. The hummus, foul, soujouk, and falafel are all great. The service is awesome and the staff is very accommodating!
