We came here last year and did not have a great experience so we decided to give this place another try; again disappointed. We asked for a seat inside but were told the only seats available (in an empty restaurant at 5pm) were outside on...the ‘heated patio’. It’s spring and it’s about 50 F with a wind that makes it feel colder. The ‘heater’ is a vent that points at your feet - so we had to wear coats throughout dinner. The food was good and the bus woman was more attentive than the waitstaff. The following night we ate at the red light pizza place nearby and ate in their actual heated patio and had a great time with better food and service. I wouldn’t waste your time here - so many other great options in DC.More

Beautiful place in a great location. It is always super full so I suggest you reserve in advance. Breads they serve when arriving are amazing. Food was good but not amazing.

Food way over cooked with a burnt taste no better than any other mediocre second tier restaurant, Main Dish mashed potatoes cold. White Veal so hard was more like a crispy potato chip. Decore really rickety and uncomfortable. I would never recommend this restaurant to...my business clients or friends. Only Bright spot away our server. He was great.More

We have walked by Le Diplómate many times over the past few years and decided to finally give it a try. Even though we did not have a reservation, the host was able to fit us in. Our server was great and the atmosphere reminded...us both of Parisian cafes. What we ordered was tasty (and a huge portion) but the big no-no in a restaurant was committed by the manager. He had apparently drenched himself in a heavy, over powering cologne before coming to work. The cologne arrived before he did and would burn our noses and change the flavor of the food every time he would walk by. Other than this, everything was great.More

Fun, vibrant restaurant. They are obviously very popular but were able to accommodate us as walk-ins. The area where we weee seated was comfortable and quiet enough for conversation. The service was prompt and friendly. The food is typical bistro fare. The steaks frites was...tasty but very salty. Very pleasant French bistroMore

Le Diplomate used to be a restaurant; now it is just a scene. Though overpriced, the small portions are a relief since the food is no longer very good. Dishes arrive from the kitchen lukewarm, quickly after order – suggesting many are prepared in advance...and served straight from the refrigerator or warmer towards speedy table turnover. Several of the servers seem to wish they were elsewhere. If cost is no concern and you’re not there for the food, the atmosphere remains great, with beautiful décor, a lively bar, and an energetic crowd.More

I had a reservation for 2 at 9:00. I arrived early and ordered drinks and a starter at the bar. We ordered the Escargot, Bœuf Bourguignon and the Steak Frites. The food and the atmosphere were A+.

Best cheeseburger and onion soup in town. Super busy place - there was a line out the door before they even opened. Staff was great.

Loved it! Four of us had a wonderful lunch at Le Diplomate yesterday. Our server, Nate, was amazing. He was professional and kind. Nate elevated a superbly delicious dining experience to an even higher level! Our food was perfect. Superbly prepared and pleasantly served. Among...the four of us, we enjoyed: boeuf bourguignon, branzino, the mushroom tart, a club sandwich, roasted cauliflower, haricots verts, profiteroles, and port. They were all excellent. The atmosphere at Le Diplomate was delightful. We are greatly looking forward to returning. Thank you from Lorraine.More

Very disappointing unpleasant staff. We was waiting more than 1 hour to get our table and hostess lady even didn’t check the availability of tables . So disrespectful regarding to clients. This restaurant should definitely improve their attitude regarding their future clients.

This was our third or fourth couples visit to Le Diplomate, and our last. We finally learned that it's not a French restaurant or even a restaurant, but rather a hangout for locals in their 20s and 30s screaming over the tiny tables at the...top of their lungs. The seating is cramped and uncomfortable, and the food is medicore, but the worst part is the staff. Even if you have reservations, as we did, you're greeted with, "Stand over there and wait" by the self-important employees ignoring the mob scene at the front counter. Their attitude is that you're lucky they're even going to seat you. Organizational culture comes from the top, and management knows who generates the profits. If you're looking for a relaxing or romantic meal out, lingering over wonderful food, look elsewhere.More

Le Diplomate was an amazing evening of dining and food exploration. Our family had Nabil as our guide, as we went on a culinary adventure with him choosing 3-4 dishes from each course. It allowed us to all try new things and experience the best...of the restaurant. The food was phenomenal, Nabil was delightful and we had a most memorable evening!More

Excellent choice for brunch or dinner. Gets crazy busy for dinner and you need to make reservations 1 month in advance- but totally worth it!!! For brunch, if you go at 11am you don’t need reservations. I usually order the Croque Madame for brunch and...dinner I get the Beef Bourguignon. The bread taste terrific. Service is good for how busy they get and the value/price is very good compared to other DC restaurants. It’s a fun lively and very loud place. Do not go here if you want a quiet romantic dinner. Definitely go here if you want a bustling hopping busy fun place.More

As a solo diner, I don’t always expect great service. Here, as a walk up during Sunday brunch, I was treated like an absolute princess! Bartender took great care and I had the best French Toast I’ve ever tasted. Highly recommend!

You don’t need a reservation for the bar. But the restaurant is quite popular, so seating might not be immediately available.

Try calling the restaurant directly ... (202) 332-3333. Our server, Lauren really made our visit special. If she is working I would try to get her to take care of your group.
