This place is awesome, especially if you have never tried Ethiopian food before. The staff is extremely helpful and patient, and willing to explain dishes to you. I also have severe food allergies, and their team (and even chef) was very helpful in mitigating any...allergy risks.More

Spicy food with a variety of vegetarian and carnivorous fare. The dishes often have generous additions of jalapeño, garlic and other spices; not for those who don’t like spicy food. But if you do, there are many flavorful options here. I recommend the sampler platter...(plenty for two to share) to enjoy a lot of different tastes at once, and plenty of injera to go with it. There’s even gluten free injera! Only issue was service was kinda slow.More

Tasty food in a restaurant with great ambiance. I took my parents who are adventurous eaters but never had Ethiopian and they loved it.

I normally find Ethiopian cuisine a bit off-putting: something about both the taste and texture of the injera which serves as the base of so many dishes just makes me queasy. But at Ethiopic, they seem to have solved this problem: once the injera has...absorbed the flavors of the various ingredients, it's savory and wonderful; and the texture? I don't know what they've done differently, but it works. My wife and I shared a vegetrian sampler with pan-fried fish, and everything on the "plate" was delicious. We had a delightful time other than that, unlike an earlier visit, the dining area was pretty clattery and loud.More

It is difficult to give a honest appreciation for this restaurant. Service was good, dishes were well displayed, restaurant is clean ... But, the food was extremely spicy and it was difficult to differentiate the different dishes in the platter. I can not state that...it was bad food, I simply want to say that I did not click on the food. We wanted to order dessert, but half of the menu was not available. So far, we left without dessert as the 2 remaining propositions were not to our taste. The restaurant was very loud and dark. To conclude, the scoring does not reflect my appreciation of the evening, but it would have been unfair to provide a bad scoring because the food type is not to my taste. Hope the review will help.More

I visited Washington DC this weekend and sort out this particular restaurant. We were told by the Uber driver that the food was delicious, even stating that the family who owns the restaurant eats there! It was indeed an experience. We had the vegetable platter...that served three easily and enough injera bread. we finished with cholate cake and thyme tea. The staff was engaging and polite. I recommend this restaurant highly.More

We went as a family of five, one aged 9 and two aged 6. We try to have a new experience at each trip we take and I’m so thankful we tried this restaurant! The staff was wonderful, I had mistakenly reserved for two instead...of 5 and there was no upset shown although it was busy. The waiter was lovely, explaining what we should try and expect from the kids - he was so right! Smiles the whole time and interacted with all of us so well. Food was amazing and we are hooked, at least my husband and I are along with our nine year old. Make this a stop for sure!More

An extremely popular Ethiopian restaurant on H Street in Washington DC. We were fortunate to get a table, so reservations highly recommended. The servings are large so bring a big appetite. There are: lamb, beef, chicken and vegetarian options. The food was absolutely delicious and...quite a memorable experience. Recommend highly.More

You will recall, gentle reader, that I am an unsophisticated rube from Southwest Virginia. I rarely venture beyond standard fare, but I was delighted to try this "exotic" restaurant in the nation's capital. The restaurant is elegant without being stuffy, and the artwork is interesting....We were a trifle late for our reservation, but the gentle hostess seated us immediately. Our waitress was attentive and kind-if a bit slow in bringing our check. My meal, beef tips, was delicious, and I particularly enjoyed the bread. The bread is difficult to describe. It is sweet with the consistency of ...a paper towel. You can roll like it like a soft taco to enclose your fare or you can consume it by itself. My Ethiopian beer was also very good. I rated the value as average because it was somewhat expensive.More

Cosy restaurant and obviously very popular. The food was great and quantities substantial. Would suggest reserving table to be sure you get a space.
