Simple restaurant; one of our most delightful places.
About
Inspired by the flavors of forgotten and forbidden lands, ancient east-west trade routes and cooking techniques, we're excited to reframe Old World stories and methods for a new, hungry, and inquisitive audience. For us, a maydan is the genesis of human connection. It's an Arabic word but is used throughout the Old World, from India to northern Africa.

Very nice design and group dining experience - you feel as if you’ve traveled to a local cool restaurant somewhere in the Middle East…. And the food is tasty and interesting. Especially liked the beet purée in the appetizers. It’s just way off in terms...of price - to the point that it’s offensively overpriced for the food you receive. If you go just be familiar with pricing and do not sit outside in the tents where you would miss out on all the cool indoor ambiance.More

I came with a friend for a good Mediterranean/ Middle Eastern style dinner. This was a good quality food. A bit pricey but atmosphere is good. Service was good.

Start by saying we live in Seattle. Washington and was visiting Washington DC. Maydan is situated off a side road. As you walk down to Maydan you wonder if the place is really any good. Then you see the nice outside table setup and you...walked indoors to a small little area. Once they take you inside everything changes. It has an amazing setup and great vibe. And from there the real experience begins. They serve family style, on this day was our anniversary and the Executive Chef Darnell, knocked the experience out the park! The food was incredible, service was impeccable and Walker the General Manager walked around and spoke to every customer. At a table across from us was another couple celebrating their anniversary. They said they love this place. Put this on your “must do” list!More

I visited Maydan with my partner for our anniversary dinner! We looked through many difference DC dining options and were drawn in by the food and the very different menu of Maydan. We made reservations about a month in advance and were able to select...a convenient time for us. We also opted for the Tawle Menu, adding in Lamb for the meat, and the Do you trust us for the drinks we prepaid for all of this at the time of the reservation making the day of a seamless experience from start to finish. We opted for indoor seating which had a lovely aesthetic and music as opposed to the pop-up tents outside. Our server Molly was incredible and explained the Tawle Menu and drinks to get us started. We enjoyed the first course of "Appetizers" if you can call them that, I would have filled up on those flavors alone. Each bite was completely different and left it up to us to try new and interesting combinations of the full spread. We loved the cocktails that started and ended our meal since we are big fans of Gin, however, the wine was okay, and did not play well with the variety of food flavors in the middle of the meal. The "Main Course" containing the steak, chicken, lamb and more sauces to try came just in time and we were able to enjoy a mixing of the two spreads all together. Every single thing we tasted was incredible. By the time we got to dessert we were so full it was the perfect evening of celebration without having to make any menu decisions or even see a check at the end of the night. We cannot thank Molly enough for being so kind and checking in on us throughout the evening as we celebrated our anniversary. We hope to be back soon!More

I looked forward to dining at Maydan for so long that I started to worry it would not be as good as I imagined. A review of Maydan is all about the food and service - wow to both. A lot of attention is paid...to staff training. Everyone, servers and runners, know everything about everything on the menu, food and drink. Our party of four enjoyed all of the food served. We all ate a lot but there was a lot of food leftover. We had dinner together again the next night and enjoyed it just as much! The packaging of the leftovers was great! The extra pitas given to us with our leftovers were appreciated. Maydan for a true dining experience - it is all about the food and service!More

What a fantastic dining experience. Our party of 4 visited for a friend's birthday. We pre-ordered the tawle lamb feast. All I can say is WOW. The sheer amount of food that we were provided was unreal and could've realistically served 8. But it's not...the quantity that was important, it was the quality. The lamb itself was delicious-perfectly cooked and full of rich flavor. The many, MANY accompaniments were spectacular, with the standout here being the beet borani, chicken kebabs (seriously, the chicken was spectacular), and various pickles. The za'atar dirty martini was a nice variation on a classic cocktail. Service was top-notch from start to finish, informative and attentive without being intrusive or overbearing. The atmosphere and decor were welcoming and warm; interesting and eclectic without being distracting.More

First I would rate this 5 stars or more for service, but I gave 3 stars because the food was good but didn’t blow me away. The meat dishes were a little salty, and with the exception of a few of the side dishes ,...nothing really stood out here vs any other Moroccan/Lebanese restaurant The service however was impeccable and I like that they had pretty spaced out tables during these pandemic times. Overall, if in the area , i would go back with a larger group next time if they wanted to try the placeMore

Some higher end places are more about presentation and taste and you leave the restaurant hungry. Not Maydan! This place excels on all fronts, flavor and presentation and variety of dishes. We had the Tawla menu and enjoyed every thing. The dessert isn't their call...to fame but at that point we were full.More

We did take-out due to the pandemic with a prix fixe dinner for a party of four. The kabobs — steak and chicken - were delicious, as were the sauces and sides (carrots especially). Portions were generous. Note that the restaurant is pricey and charged...a 22% service charge for take-out, on top of our tip.More

Be prepared to fall in love- everything about this place will make you want to come back again and again so you can try every last cocktail and menu item. I've managed to get in several times (be flexible and don't give up-it's worth it)....Maydan translates to "a gather place" and it is definitely a place to go with friends or family. If you like to cook, try to get a table near the open fire kitchen. Looking forward to returning when Covid travel restrictions are lifted.More
