Delighted to stumble across this place on a day out exploring Tavira. Exceedingly fresh fish, delicious desserts and fantastic service. Will more than likely be returning before the end of our holiday!

Visited in October 2014 - one of the highlights of our holiday. Excellent food and friendly service...made sure we returned on a visit the following May despite being an hours drive away and it was well worth the effort. Asked for tuna steak cooked the same way as previous visit (crunchy seed topping!), as we'd enjoyed it so much &... More

Our family and friends has spent some great time at this restaurant over the past 18 years. Nights, but mostly for lunch. They have a great selection of wines from all regions of Portugal. Expensive and less.... We recommend giant grilled prawn, as a starter, continued by the "Bacalhau Chef Style" or the "beef a la casa". You will never... More

I was introduced to Portas Do Mar by my inlaws, who frequently holiday in Tavira. This is one of their frequent stomping grounds and it's easy to see why. The restaurant is family owned and makes Reay food. The service is personal, friendly and authentic. I am usually cautious of where I eat overseas, especially when it comes to seafood,... More

When our neighbour invited us out for dinner he said lets go to Portas do Mar. The service is discreet and unhurried. The starter we had each a mega giant prawn with molho de pier pier was fabulous. When the main came we were sort of anxious that we wouldn't manage it.....we both chose monkfish and salmon skewers....these were just... More

We were four friends for lunch on October 15th. Two of us had been there in July as well. The overall impression is based on both visits. In brief: Very personal and friendly service. At the first visit we had reserved a table beforehand and were given the best table possible for our celebration - a corner table with glass... More

Sitting in the dress- circle with a wide view of the briny,we ambienced romantically to the accompaniment of Chilled gaspacho and fig soup and a mixed shellfish and octopus stew. Both thumbs-up for the rich heady tastes and the satisfactory mopping up with the crusty bread. This establishment is in no hurry, and you would do well to slow your pace... More

We had lunch here yesterday. Supposedly a quick stop before catching the ferry to the beach. This is not a fast food joint. Vino verde was delicious, as was our food (shellfish). The view was gorgeous, as was our waitress who spoke perfect English and patiently answered all our questions. Thank goodness we've got over a week left of our... More

Wonderful service and great food along with a fantastic view, what could be better. Not a place for a quick meal, everything takes its time and is to be savoured. Good wine list as well, apart from lack of anything sparkling. We were the first in and the last to leave and never felt rushed to finish and stop chatting.... More
