We came off a cruise ship and took the public bus to the walking tunnel to the old town. I must of read about this restaurant because we passed by loads of places on both side of the narrow road going uphill towards the church...and square. You should, too. It was lunchtime and during the extreme heat wave, but this restaurant, To Kanoni, was well worth it. Some of the best food we had over the remainder of the 21 day cruise. Several levels of seating, including rooftop, but we stayed at ground level because of my wife's knees (we're both 80). Pleasant veranda with ocean views. The food was a knockout. A fresh Greek village (means no lettuce or leaves) salad that really was just prepared for us. A stuffed squid dish that we're still talking about, two other courses, and then orange cake made with local oranges, not too sweet or too gooey. The owner/hostess was delightful. she spoke fine English. Turns out, she winters in Florida at her son's home. He apparently had a successful Greek restaurant in Minneapolis. She introduced us around to her son, there, and the working grandchildren. This personal connection is why we all travel. All in all, a marvelous lunch in a grand setting with an ambience of friendship.More
