A mixture between what our grandmas taught us and what we learned ourselves. We buy from local companies and farmers as much as we can. All of our pasta and desserts are made from scratch, handmade. We also buy as much of local meat as possible. You are very welcome to come visit us and try our food!

A beautiful and sunny winter saturday beckoned for a trip outside that ended in filling our stomachs with something special. Deservedly so.. At Gostilna Tomaj we were well rewarded. Chicken on broad spinatch noodles was soft, creamylike and went beautifuly with the pasta. Also the roasted leg of lamb was cooked perfectly and served with fried vegetables. Fingerlicking.. washed down with carefuly chosen white wine. Excellent coffee and cake to top it all off. Nice, warm, homey environment. 10 out of 10 in my book. My family and I highly recommend a visit.. or several. Enjoy..

After a drive to Vipava valey we decided to pay a visit to Tomaj to eat there. We choose Gistilna Tomaj. Domestic, nothing fancy but a nice meal on the road. We took home made gnochi (with wild ragu) and handmade buckwheat crumbs (stuffed with walnuts and cottage cheese & mashrioms). Beside to drink local wine teran and malvazija. For desert - panna cotta with teran. Wort a visit...

We enjoyed in tasty homemade and local food. We ate goat cheese, which was from local farm and prepared with herbs. The main dishes were prepared with love and tasted delicious. The service was nice. I highly recommend.

We decided to visit this restaurant because of the good reviews. This was in May 2020, as a part of the trip to town Štanjel. We ordered a mix of local meats (persutto, etc) and cheese as a starter - this was ok. Then we decided to go with the barbecue meat plate for 2 persons. Big mistake, total disaster. The meat felt like it was cooked (felt like the minced meat was boiled in water or something like defrosted in the last minute) and not grilled.
We were not the only ones with the bed experience. Some bikers decided to stop, but they waited too long to be served and decided to leave.

Unbelievable homemade dishes, ranging from jota (my favourite Slovenian dish, here it was exquisite!!!) and pasta (we had gnocchi with Teran, Fuži with truffles, buckwheat "krapci" with Porccini) to homemade panna cotta with Teran & Teran sorbet. Everything was phenomenal. 1A. Worth every penny and more!

Perfect place for a lunch with family or friends, where you can eat local and seasonal products at a truly honest price! Excellent service, right portions, the staff speaks both Italian and English, the ravioli with Terano sauce is highly recommended! Very satisfied, we will be back.

The food and service was great. The persutto was to die for.
With 4 other friends we ordered one dish and tried everything and each bite was better than the last.
Everyting is home made and on the spot, so it might take a while, but well worth the wait.

A cosy inn in an idyllic landscape, that is how one could generally characterise the "Gostílna Tomáj" near Sežana. What is more, there is a friendly atmosphere and the beautiful, dignified ambience in a Karst village that is inseparably linked with the name of the most famous Slovenian avant-garde poet, Srečko Kosovél (Poems/pesmi, Integrali, Kons-Poems), whose parents built a beautiful family house with a large garden not far from the inn and where the young poet spent the last years and days of his life; his grave is also there; it is located at the end of the village of Tomáj in the cemetery amidst the vines and stone walls that give the Karst ("Kras") its unmistakable character. At the Tomaj Inn you can enjoy a delicious meal (lamb chops are recommended) in the beautiful building, which was built by a famous architect, as well as in the garden and enjoy the local wine, the famous Terán or Refóšk. A wonderful stay surrounded by friendly people, with many excursion destinations (Vinska cesta wine route, Sežana with the poet's birthplace, Trieste/Trst, Nova Goríca). A cultural and culinary experience that you don't want to miss!

We were going several times to eat in gostilna Tomaj. The food is very good. They are cooking special homeda ravioli and pasta and I really reccomend this restaurant. The prices are normal .
Congratulation also to friendly staff. We will return for sure

We have visited the Gostilna Tomaj many times. In fact, every time we go to Kras. The ambiance is homely. Service as it should be.
Have tried all the dishes they offer. Each one in particular was GREAT! They also satisfied a vegan friend.
In addition to the usual range of drinks, they offer excellent local Teran. Must try!
You may be disturbed by the occasional noise from the road or small parking. But this is normal in a small town :)

Very good lunch, all local products. Gnocchi and pasta was amazing (specially gnocchi with teran and pršut). The meat was also very good, and the deserts were perfect. Also very reasonably priced. I highly recommend.

Do not let the inside fool you. Despite the interior look, this place has amazing local food and wine at cheap prices. We loved the deer goulash and the Teran wine. Super fast and friendly staff!

Try to find place for dinner during our stay in Lipica. The pictures of the place on web are better, when you arrive you are a liitle bit disappointed. But you should go through of first feelings and order. The staff is kindly, prompt and familiar. The food , what we ordered was really good. The pastas were really homemade. After the first feeling lovelorn of pictures its was really surprise, tasty , really good. Only the offer was small, but what they are offering is good.

Best place to stop and grab a lunch/dinner/breakfast. Most of the ingredients are from local farm. Everything is fresh. They speak in English, Italian and Slovenian. It’s worth for the price.

Absolutely fantastic food! 10 out 10. Coffee also 10 out 10! Service amazing! We could easily drive hours to get back to this lovely restaurant and the lovely staff and not to forget the chef, great!
