We had visited this place before on one of our previous trips to Riga a couple of years ago and we remembered that we liked it back then. Which is why we chose to dine here again this July.
Unfortunately it didn't quite meet our...expectations from last time. The tartar was very tasty with a beautiful presentation. The lamb chop was well-cooked. But the rest of the food was somehow loveless, almost boring. The bread was not the freshest, and be aware, they charge you for extra bread which we didn't know. Somehow there was no harmony of tastes in the food, no spices, no passion. The food didn't fit the general atmosphere of the restaurant which is actually pretty fancy. And honestly, it was too expensive for the simple cooking we got. The service offered us only one table although the place was almost empty. Later another couple from the street could sit at a table that we would have chosen away from the draft. Our service lady was pleasant, though.More
This restaurant is a little hard to put clearly in some category, it´s a local produce nearly fine dining place. Let me explain: starters very fine dining style. Slices of duck breast with a poached egg in lovely broth and an oven baked aubergine were...both finely done albeit rather large portions and the aubergine could have benefited from some salt while baking. or on the toppings. The main dish(for both) was stated in menu and ordered as lamb chop, but was actually a mutton shank. And not a very special one; tender yes, but just a shank cooked in broth and red wine. Very basic and rustic (and big) sort of out of line with the staraters. Almost like home cooking as were the garnishing "tomato, aubergine, celery stew" and oven baked potato slices. Desserts : strawberries and house made ice cream and sorbet a fine experience again!More
The decor and the ambient are nothing very special or personal, but the service is outstanding (formal, yet very professional, dedicated and warm). The food is great if you like Baltic flavors (lots of the ingredients come from local producers, which is wonderful) and I...would especially recommend – if you visit during Summer/ Fall 2020 - the chantarelle dish with potatoes and butter sauce. It is a dish to die for – and this is coming from someone who does not like shrooms in general. Drinks are very good as well.More
This was a perfect choice for Valentine's day dinner, but all began with a lost localization by my mobile phone ( as in the old town sometikes the gps gets confused ) solved promptly by our waitress coming to the street and trying to localizing...us :) and we sure did "get caught" :)
Upon arrival we were conducted to our table which happen to be in the 1rst floor. The restaurant is very stylish and cozy, we ordered a glass of champagne and asked for starters and while waiting for them we ate that magnificent truffle butter with that tasty black bread, that was really awsome :)
Meanwhile the Shrimp Ceviche and the Tuna had arrived to the table, tasting them was a magnificent experience of tastes, they were really fabulous.
For the main we ordered an entrecote plus the wild Venision and as just judging by the starters this ones would not let us bad, they were magnificent, the meat was cooked really in the point to taste and the sauces were very delicious. For enjoying more the taste of the meat we drunk a chianti.
For dessert we split a special Valentine's day dessert which i can´t remember what it was, i just remember it was very tasty.
All the experience was so good and the staff so friendly that we asked where to go after which they promtply told us to go to a bar that is part of their chain. But that is another story ( or review ) :)
I can recomend again and again this restaurant.More
Was really looking forward to Muusu after visiting Riga's other culinary highlights. However the night we dined perhaps as off? For example, had hoped to try one of their fish dishes but they were out. Their market catch as catfish from Africa. That seemed odd?...We also ordered pinot noir but they served us a gamay. When we asked the server said it was because they were out of the pinto noir yet he never informed us. Just served the gamay. Things like this detract from the experience. Our dishes were ok (the eggplant app was divine) but catfish from Africa in a city by water?More
A lovely gem of a restaurant in the Old Town. A good menu with lots of options. Not the cheapest restaurant around but the quality of food and service was excellent. Definitely would recommend and would eat there again!
The restaurant is tastefuly decorated.
Staff is professional, maybe need a bit more personal touch.
Tables arround us got some explation about the menu which were strangely enough not given. The food however was very nice.
Dishes were served looking nice and more important tasted...great.
If looking for a bit 'higher' level restaurant this is a nice place.More
