Visited restaurant Čemodāns within Autumn Restaurant Week. Restaurant was cozy with small interior accents and calm music in background. Reservations could be made for each 2 hours (example 5pm, 7pm etc.). Listed menu looked delicious and it could be seen by amount of reservations as...all tables were full. All three dishes were very tasty, but the best was dessert. We were greeted by a nice waiter that showed us our table. Unfortunately our tablecloth was dirty - big dirt spot in front of my seat and even bigger in the middle of the table that was tried to hide under a candle. Wanted to move candle aside, but left it in the middle. Service was very good, polite waiter and dishes were served quite fast. Unfortunately good atmosphere was ruined at the very end. As mentioned before reservations were for every two hours. Half hour before next reservation waiter could politely informed us for the situation, but instead we got a check/receipt 15 minutes before and said that we should leave other guests are coming.More
9 of us dined here and everybody loved the food, i would agree with a couple of reviews that the owner and waiter do seem a bit distant, but they were pleasant enough with us, and if i was in Riga again - i would...go back hereMore
The waiter at this restaurant is likely the rudest person of the entire continent.
We called a week in advance to make a 5pm reservation, and they confirmed over the phone. I even checked multiple times over the phone to make sure they have the...name and the date & time correct, because the person over the phone sounded in a rush and I was worried they were gonna make a mistake.
Hah. Guess what happened. We walked into the restaurant and they looked at a piece of paper where they cursorily sketched out the reservation names & # people, and told us our name wasn’t on the reservation. I asked nicely if they could double check since I was certain they confirmed our reservation over the phone. They made us wait *20 minutes* awkwardly in the middle of the tables next to the counter and completely ignored us. Both the owner and the waiter kept walking past us, shook their heads and rolled their eyes. they also were speaking to each other in Latvian about us. We couldn’t understand, but from the tone of it they weren’t saying anything remotely nice.
At least have the courtesy of telling us what’s going on? The waiter finally came to tell us that “you’re not on the reservation. Nothing we can do”. I asked “but I called? Who took my call then?” And they just went on to ignore me. Seriously? We changed all of our travel plans so we could make the 5pm reservation and you didn’t even have the courtesy to say “sorry we made a mistake”??
Small restaurants make mistakes during busy times — i understand. But most people are apologetic, try to problem solve with the customer, or at least offer another time. None of these happened with this restaurant.
The waiter was extremely rude the whole time, and was mumbling words about us in Latvian, yet completely made us feel unwelcomed and uncomfortable.
DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND DONT COME HERE.More
I like this place a lot. visit this place one every 3-4 months. Portions are large as well as menu. One of the favourite dishes is salmon tartar. For desert a good option is marcipan cake. Service is always nice.
Having gone here because of the reviews and the menu, my sister and I were very disappointed. The picture of the baked Brie with hazelnuts on the menu looked delicious - in reality more like the deep fried breadcrumbed Brie portions you get in many...pubs in England. Both the salmon that my sister had and the (over cooked) lamb that I had were served with every vegetable they had in the chiller (grilled tomato, aubergine, courgette and sweet corn) neither came together as a ‘meal’. I should have wondered when he didn’t ask me how I wanted the lamb cooked. The free bread was stale (OK free but if it’s stale why bother).
I don’t quite know where the other reviewers ate but hoping it was just an incredibly bad night for Cemodan. This was the only disappointing meal so far here - so Cemodans need to up their game as far as we are concerned.More
We came here with my daughters for a late Sunday lunch. The waitress was such a nice woman - she gave us recommendations on all the dishes, and was really looking after us.
Fillet mignon that my little daughter had was very nice, my big...one had a duck with risotto and I had fish for lunch.
Beer was also good. My favorite dish was fried herring (local dish).
All in all, a wonderful place!More
This restaurant is a hidden gem. The food has great quality and I love that they create extra fun looks. The restaurant is styled nicely and the service is good.
The prices are very reasonable and compared to the much more expensive restaurant in the...touristy old town I am superhappy that I found this place.More
