About
The three chefs restaurant „Tam labam būs augt” (The good must grow - Eng.) is a restaurant with the open kitchen, beloved by citizens and admired by guests of our city. It was founded in September 2011 by two famous Latvian chefs, Mārtiņš Sirmais and Ēriks Dreibants. Very fast the restaurant earned popularity and was acknowledged among the highest ranking restaurants in Riga. As a proof to it, in 2013 and 2014 it received a 3rd place in the Top 30 restaurants in Latvia Excellence award. Despite rocket fast success, we remain accessible, friendly and open to everybody. We love our clients and will provide perfect service even under the most complicated circumstances.

We had a lovely time here, from the extraordinary "amuse Bouche" of swirled and splurged purees and reductions with delicous bread ( it really worked!) to well executed cooking. Knowlegeable staff . Be warned they will sell you the most expensive bottle of wine if you are not careful! one of the best meals we had in Riga

3 chefs restaurant is a nice gourmet restaurant, located in Jacobs Barracks in Riga old town. It’s stylish decorated and ambiance is relaxed and trendy. Personnel is very friendly and all spoke excellent english. The menu offers a’la carte and a 9 course tasting menu. We chose the Jerusalem artichock soup as the starter and slamon and sea bass for main course. The signature thing of the place is to serve bread in the beginning with a variaty of sauces being spread on a sheet of baking paper on the table. This was fun and the bread with the sauces was very tasty. Also the food it self was well prepared and delicious. We finished the meal with a piece of chocolate cake, which we, having learned from previous mistakes, shared. Also this time, one portion was enough for two. All in all 3 Chefs Restaurant was a pleasant experience and can be recommended for dinner.

Nestled in the cobbled streets of Riga we found this gem. Chosen as a birthday celebration dinner that did not disappoint! Outstanding and innovative food with an atmosphere and service to match. Our waiter Arthur (English pronunciation) went above and beyond to ensure our eating experience was fabulous. As a treat this restaurant will not disappoint.

Some of the must-try dishes here are pan-fried foie gras starters, the seabass with its delicious seaweed base, the smoked eel with dashi, the slow-cooked lamb steak with fennel and sour cream. To end the evening, the rum and apricot ice cream with a cardamom cream will take you to dessert heaven. I enjoyed interacting with the friendly staff who like all Latvians I met, were very smiley and warm.

This restaurant is situated on a charming pedestrianised street with both outdoor and indoor seating. We chose to eat outside given the beautiful weather, but inside was also very light and airy, very stylishly decorated throughout. We were a little disappointed with our starters, the fish in the ceviche tasted more of plain raw fish than the limey marinade which we had expected; the cold cucumber soup was a little bland and contained rather oversalted cucumber pieces as though to compensate. Our mains were the special, strip loin steak, which was heavenly and accompanied by a bowl of exquisitely prepared baby vegetables, and the pike perch was also delicious. We would have appreciated more knowledge about the wine list but there did not seem to be anyone there who could tell us more than the basics. I can understand why people give this restaurant 5 stars, and would definitely go back again to try some other starters.

Maybe it was my expectations or the earlier reviews that made my disappointment with this restaurant. However it’s not a culinary experience at the “3 chefs restaurant”. Perhaps one chef is enough at such a small place. The food served was under average and so was the wine list. They have gimmick serving the bread, kind of charming but don’t in any way compensate for the rest of the serving. I did choose their daily special, and was recommended to have cooked medium rare, which was too rare for that kind of meat, not even close to tender. Most annoying is the ridiculously small napkins, you need four of them to cover your lap. Be aware that a lot of the seats are on bar cracks, and be specific what you prefer when making a reservation. I did, but that did it make any difference, how ever the waiters sorted it out after my arrival. All in all, expensive without necessary quality. I can’t recommend.

When searching the Internet you will find lots of restaurants in rigs. This one you won’t. We found it by walking by and making a reservation. The menu is stripped down and most of the food is locally sourced. The chefs and waiters make sure your wishes and allergies are respected and craft amazing food. From starters to desert, every dish is flawless and tells a beautiful story. It’s something unique and it will require time (plan 1.5 to 2 hours). Make sure to have an open mind and open agenda and take everything in. It will be worth it. This restaurant is more than Michelin worthy, in fact it was better than most Michelin star restaurants I have been to. Give it a try, you will not be disappointed!

Fantastic food! This place really serves unique, inspired dishes. Everything we had was fantastic. We didn't get the tasting menu (after finishing, I wish we had, just so we could have experienced more interesting dishes from the chef). Everything from the starters to desert exceeded expectations. And everything was incredibly fresh. Service was also fantastic.

Food was good but we all found it a bit overpriced. We paid 75€ per person for starter, main and dessert plus wine without any of us getting super excited. It was good, but we also had two other dinners in Riga for about a third of the price that were as good or maybe tastier. No complaints whatsoever however.

Seated at the chef table to enjoy the 6 course tasting menu. A good flow during the evening with small and nice prepared dishes combined with good quality and nice service it becomes a 3 hour long dinner with good experience. Compliments to the Chef! But paying Eur 36 extra for a tiny, very tiny, spoon of black caviar to be served with the cod, that’s just a waiste of money and drag the total down. Excellent service from the staff is always what you are dreaming about, and here it works well!

We had an excellent 6 course taster experience. Dishes were interesting takes on Latvian culinary styles and the service was attentive and informative. I would highly recommend for couple looking for a chilled but romantic evening. Wine list was also very good, especially the white burgundy.

We happened upon Riga during Restaurant Week so were lucky enough to try both 3 Pavaru and the other 3 restaurants during our visit. Both menus were excellent displaying a contemporary twist on traditional Latvian cuisine. Highly recommend both.

Note this is not a dinner restaurant, but a 'tasting' restaurant. I was clear that I wanted a substantial meal. The waitress assured me that my order would be a large portion. When I got it, the risotto only covered the bottom of the bowl. She saw that I was finished my entire meal in about 2 minutes, and that was only because I ate slowly. I was also charged about 2.7 Euro for enough water to cover about an eighth of my glass. When I told her after that the portion was small, she admitted "You only come here to taste." On the positive side, the bread thing was fantastic, and is special to this restaurant. At least be up front with customers.

Absolutely amazing! By far the best restaurant we went to in Riga in our stay. The staff and chefs did an excellent job. One of my friend also had some dietary restrictions, but this was absolutely no issue (we also let them know in advance). We did spend around 3,5h in the restaurant with a tasting menu, it was a great experience but that last half an hour was a bit too long waiting for the dessert. We'd appreciate a bit shorter breaks in between the courses. We went for the non-alcoholic drinks menu, where we had low expectations. We ended up very pleasantly surprised with local ciders, juices, bubbles and more that tasted amazing! The food is top notch and very well presented visually and orally by the waiter. English was no issue either. Top-notch, we highly recommend.

This is a top class restaurant, fine dining in every meaning of the word. Superbly friendly and knowledgeable staff. Located in the old town, near to the powder tower. The restaurant has two kitchens, an open plan kitchen in the centre of the floor where starters and deserts are prepared, and an interior kitchen where the mains are cooked. 2 menus available, the 6 course tasting menu or the a la carte. Both vary seasonally. They prefer each table to collectively chose one or the other. We opted for the a la carte. No matter which menu you chose, the bread brought at the start is served in a superbly theatrical presentation. A mat is placed in front of every diner, and then a chef from the open plan kitchen creates a Jackson Pollock type artwork on the mat with 4 or 5 differing sauces, in which to dip the deliciously soft and fresh home baked bread. For starters we chose a delicious fjord trout, served with the trimmings deep fried in a shiso leaf (wonderful). The ostrich tartare was enjoyed as was the superb seafood soup. For mains, we had the delicious pike perch (otherwise known as Zander) and 3 steaks which were also excellent. A lovely sorrel sorbet, light and refreshing was served as a pre-dessert, before we tried the white chocolate mousse and the strawberry dish. Both were again superb. We tried several of the wines, including the Latvian white from Sabile, which was very interesting. A top class dining establishment, you can guarantee you will eat well.
