Nice and Cozy Pub

Living in Riga but never came to this place and now we decided to come as it got more popular. Came to check just for 1-2 beers. However, thanks to Arthur recommendation, we took delicious garlic bread and Onion rings as well. Had a very cozy evening with nice service. Gonna visit this place more often since prices are very comfortable for us and the vast choice of belgian and local beer is what we really like in places like this.

Comfortable beer restaurant with excellent service

Our corporate staff had dinner at Gastro Pub Riga Duvel's in January 2020 Our group consisted of ten people and we enjoyed the atmosphere, service and food to the fullest. Very pleasant experience. The restaurant is very casual, great atmosphere and our waiter did an amazing job catering us all even though it was a busy Saturday evening. Our dishes were big and tasty and our vegan guest was also very happy with her foods. The restaurant is also quite centrally located in the Old Town Riga, so it should be easy to find.

More tourist trap than gourmet

We went here due ver good reviews here in TA. What a letdown it was. We felt that we have completely different standards of good tasty food than other reviewers here. Our motto is like ” a bite of gourmet makes every day a bit better” and unfortunately nothing met our standards here. Tiger prawns were good but no any wow effect, mussels just ok and garlic bread and potatoes way under happy food. Service was more rigid and acted than warm and really welcome even the restaurant was nearly empty just after Latvija had opened borders again. We didn’t get the feeling ”the best service ever” what many people are saying here. Even beer selection is marvellous, we would call this a tourist trap.

Valentines Meal 2020

Prior to arriving in Riga we researched the best restaurants to dine at and ‘Gastro Pub Duvel’s’ was one of the top ones. We pre booked about a week in advance via email and got confirmation of our booking back within 24 hours which was great. We were glad we booked as when we arrived to the restaurant it was very busy with it being Valentine’s Day. Arrival - This restaurant was fairly easy to find in the old town with the aid of Google Maps and we were greeted at the door with a warm welcome and were immediately shown to our table with menus. Atmosphere - We were shown to our table which was a nice booth in the window by the bar. The restaurant was fairly busy being a Saturday and Valentine’s Day. The restaurant isn’t so much a romantic, quiet restaurant but more of a typical cosy pub restaurant. However we found this type of ambience all part of the experience. Food & Drink - We chose two beers to begin with as the bar was full of all different beers both Latvian and Belgian mainly with a few more mainstream beers on draft. We ordered the Camembert bites with cranberry dipping and the mushroom soup for starters, these were both tasty and the service was good. The main food menu was very vast offering lots of variety. I opted for the Leg of duck and my girlfriend chose spicy steak. The portion sizes were not massive but the quality of the food was rich and tasty. Although while we were waiting for our mains we couldn’t help notice the burgers being served out which looked amazing! If we were to return we would definitely give these a go! All in all, if you’re looking for a cosy pub restaurant then we would recommend Duvels. Vast choice of food and drink in a central location. Paldies.

An amazing service by Peteris!

We went there for the first time to this pub in Riga but previously, I heard a lot of positive feedback about this place and we absolutely loved the service done by Peteris. He was very nice and professional, as well as his recommendations regarding food choice were detailed and honest from his point of view. That was very helpful! The food was very good and the menu has a lot to choose from, especially their BBQ Ribs, they were AMAZING! Also, we had delicious onion soup, huge and juicy burger, mushroom risotto and braised leg of lamb for a main. However, the braised leg of lamb disappointed us a little bit as it had a lot of boiled skin on, so it was hard to enjoy the dish, therefore if it was cooked more crispy it would be much better. Additionally, we had garlic bread that was soooooo good and squid rings as for beer snacks. Really enjoyed of every soft and crispy piece of garlic bread with a delicious sauce on the side. A big selection of beers was also impressive. In the end, Peteris gave us some limoncello as a compliment. That was very unexpected and very kind of him! Thank you! Highly recommend this place for dinner when you are in Riga.

Well worth a visit

Visited this bar/restaurant with my family. We were a table of 8 and the service was fantastic. We were served by a lovely waiter Eric who looked after us all night. He was so friendly and informative and very attentive seeing that we got shots of Limoncello after dinner and an opportunity to try the local Balsam. Food was good , tasty with generous portions at affordable prices!!! Irish Coffee/Bailey's Coffee were particularly tasty. Would definetly recommend.

Little Charm of Old Town

This Pub is located in very old historical building (Black Cat). It is very cosy and relaxed. I always go there when I am visiting my home town. I like relaxed atmosphere and in the same time professional service. The food is always a top note with the prices not to heavy on your pocket. I am really fussy eater and it is hard to impress me with service and quality. But this place tick all the boxes. The menu is very large and you can try interesting dishes like Vittelo Tonnato - starter with tender veal, Sous Vide, tuna sauce, capers and quail eggs. Yum Yum. The service also is on top. Thank to Dmitrijs and other members of the team who took care of us. I brought my English friend there who is also very fussy and she absolutely loved it. Well done!!!

One of the best and most reasonable places in Riga

The prices are surprisingly good, considering its location. And it's always been very, very tasty. One of those places, where I risk ordering the unknown, because I know the cooks will not disappoint. Trust them completely. First time I went, I was greeted by waiter Igorn and now, whenever I return, I always look him up, because I feel like he knows me. It's always a pleasure to be in his company.

Good food

We visited restaurant first on weekdays to have business lunch (8,5 euros) ceasar salad, chicken and dessert (pics 1, 2). Food was very good so we decided to eat also dinner there. Borch soup, steak, lamb and cheesecake were exellent (pics 3, 4). Waiter Igor was very helpful with good humor and service. We felt us so uncommon to ask there Latvian beer when they have so many others.

Great food but rude and awful service

Had tried to make a reservation at a similar restaurant before arriving in Riga but didn’t hear anything back. Went to said restaurant and was told they were fully booked and to try this place. Went to the restaurant and asked if they had a table for 6 for the following night but they were immediately they were cold and off before realising we weren’t a British stag party and then were slightly more welcoming. Turned up on the night and the staff were again cold and rude before realising we had a table booked, first drinks took an age to turn up, the waiter couldn’t follow simple orders (table of 6, 2 wanted a starter each, 4 wanted to have 2 starters to share) to the point we had to repeat the order 4 times as in his words “ we don’t make sense”. Starters were good, next drink order took 20 mins to come, then for mains, 5 meals came together, the 6th (a burger) didn’t arrive until most of the party had finished the meal around 15 mins later - the others couldn’t wait as the meals were luke warm to start with. We had to ask where this meal was 3 times only to be told “2 mins” every time we managed to get their attention. In total a simple 2 course meal took 2.5 hours, and was the most expensive meal we had in Riga. The quality of the food was good (4/5 - just not hot enough But had the same issue at other places in Riga) the service was 1/5).

Great Experience with the best Service

We had an awesome dinner. Starting with recommended garlic bread, which is actually a must have when you visit this pub. For the main course we had a very delicious burger each and some of the best Belgian beer. Our server Igor was a great charming guy who gave quality food and drink recommendation, overwhelming service and made this dinner an overall great experience.

How ever so rude of me!

Pitched up at 22:10, greeted by a blonde haired chap, opening hours clearly state midnight. Me and my girlfriend asked politely if they were still serving food (nobody in at this point) to which the staff member stated that they are, however we have 45 minutes to basically make our order and clear out, we again stated that if it was an inconvenience to the kitchen staff then we would happily find somewhere else but they insisted. We made our mind up quickly and waited for the staff member to take the order as it was he who stated about the 45 min closing time, however he didn't show back up for 3-4 minutes to which he then decided to reappear, noticing that we were on our phones and made a sarcastic sly remark how we should 'maybe look at your phones after you make your choice as I told you we close in 45 minutes'. At that point I slammed the menu shut, walked out and proceeded to go to Burger King where they don't seem so put out. Avoid, that is if you don't mind being made to feel like a hinderence.

Mixed feelings

Went there with a local friend one evening for a drink and some tit-bits and both service , drinks and the tit-bits were excellent. A few days later my wife and I walked in to reserve a table for the same evening and the response was not very friendly. The head waiter did not ask for our preferences as to where we would like to sit, but just pointed at a table, which we refused. As we we arrived in the evening we were seated at a nice table for four and that was O.K. Due to the Civid-19 the restaurant was not even half full so there was a lot of free space. We had ribs, which were excellent, but here again the waiter was on us from time to time asking for our order. We had just started with our first drinks. What's the rush? The impression we got, was that the personnel was trying to over do everything due to the "status" of this place. A more relaxed attitude would have been appreciated.

Wonderful dinner and beer

Delicious (and not too expensive at all) dinner for two - we had two great draft beers (thanks to the waiter for a great suggestion on which beer to try!), shared two snacks - onion rings and garlic bread, both delicious (and not too hard like in some places), and had Dorada fish, absolutely wonderful! Thanks so much - and highly recommended. Situated right in the beautiful historical centre, and the interior is a delightful XIX century traditional one.
