We had a lovely dinner with classic mussels and fries! Perfectly steamed with lots of flavor. Great fries and good aioli! A delicious lemon tart for dessert. We had a fantastic waiter who was there every time we needed him, but we never had to ask for him. Just like good service should be. Highly recommend this place if you visit Riga!

Excellent bar with good selection of beers and great food

We chose this bar for food and dinner on arriving in Riga - the staff knew their beers - were able to advise us on local beer to try, and some of the Belgian specialities they have there. I opted for the half meter of sausage, which came with a remarkably good salad, sauces, potato salad and so on... It was a feast!

Just a nice suprise!

We ordered 1 m sausage and this was yummi. Perfect for two person. The sausage was served with grilled tomatoes, pepper, all kind of vegetables, potatoe salad, four kind of sauces and sourkraut. This meal was just perfect. I would defenitely want to go back next time. Well... and this water was so sexy and handsome. 😉

The worst stake I have ever had

I had planned ahead to visit this beer cafe with my wife during my trip to Latvia. When we asked the waiter about the tomahawk, where the meat came from and if it was from Argentina like the rib-eye stake, he replied with a vogue “it is very good meat otherwise it would not be on the menu”. The steak was tough and chewy, I wouldn’t expect any better from a steak that costs 55€/kilo in a restaurant which means actual buying cost would be around 7-8€. Yet, I trusted the waiter’s suggestion. Half the steak was inedible due to though parts, we had had a large piece each but both expected the next part to be better and before we know it we were embarrassed to send back a plate more than half “eaten”. We should have done so though. Other than that the service was helpful and sympathetic towards this awful experience. The place is located right in the heart of Riga’s old city center and it is beautifully decorated. Wouldn’t recommended a restaurant that doesn’t understand what it has on the menu.

Lots of beer, small wine list, varying quality food

We selected this venue for our office Christmas party and the place was very busy. The calamari rings were very ordinary - lots of batter with little squid. The tomahawk steak was a disappointment for the diners who shared it. The "Bon vivant" steak with fries was pretty good. Would be nice to have a greater variety of wine to choose from. Adding insult to injury by charging one Euro each for a small dollop of mustard and ketchup to accompany the steak main course. Nice looking place but wont be rushing back.

Went in here for dinner and drinks on a Monday evening. The food coming out of the kitchen did not look great and we had a vegetarian in our group. When asked about vegetarian options there was very little available. When we decided to pay up for our drinks (there was a great selection of Belgian beers) and head elsewhere the staff were quite rude.

I loved this place, especially the seafood soup

I popped in one lunchtime without making a reservation. The lady who served me was really friendly and helpful, especiallty as the lunch menu wasn't written in English but she explained everything and it was reallty good value. She also was able to recommend me a nice beer. The seafood soup was probably the best I've ever had. In hindsight, I probably didn't need the mussels for a main course and I couldn't finish them but no complaints at all. It was a bargain at 22 Euro and well worth a return visit.

How guilty were we that we had a meal in Latvia that was definitely not Latvian. Pretty guilty, but when a restaurant is rated in the top five, not expensive and is right where we are wandering, the pain is diminished greatly. . Bon Vivant is welcoming, there was easily a place for us without booking, the beers seemed huge and the burgers and ribs were delicious. And the onion soup was lukewarm. It also came with extra cheesy bread, something I’d never experienced before. Our litres worth of draft beer, two large bowls of onion and borscht, large slab of ribs, a hamburger with everything and large fries with a complimentary lovely shot of blackcurrant gin came to just over 50Eu. Not cheap, but a two course meal of such quality, including drinks, not overpriced at all.

We enjoyed an excellent three-course dinner. The steak was served as ordered, with excellent and tasteful herbs and vegetables. Would also recommend their Belgian waffles for dessert, they were crispy, and served with excellent ice cream. Igor served us trough our visit with impeccable service!

Great bar, fantastic service (and beer and food!)

We visited the Bon Vivant in Riga quite by chance. It turned out to be a lucky one! We visited at lunchtime for a beer and were welcomed in a very friendly way and invited to look at the food menu. We initially just wanted a seat and a beer but the menu persuaded us to have a snack too. So so we ordered salmon carpaccio and it was just lovely - went beautifully with the beer! We were looked after very well indeed by Igor who was able to anticipate what we wanted and respond in a friendly, humorous and unobtrusive way. It was all truly a very positive experience. While it was very quiet the day we visited, the bar clearly does meals and beer for much larger parties than just us two. It manages to be quite traditional, yet welcoming and spotlessly clean. The larger food menu looks really good too, although we just had bar snacks. We were so taken that we returned the next day x and were greeted like locals! Igor again looked after us really well. Great bar, great food, spotless!

A slice of Belgium in the heart of Riga

My wife and our friends decided to pay Bon Vivant a visit on a whim, when we were exploring Riga's old town last Sunday. The cafe has an extensive Belgian beer selection that we initially got a little bit lost in, thankfully the bar man - Radeon I believe was his name - was super knowledgeable and helped us pick the perfect beers to end our evening with. All of the Belgian staple dishes were on the menu- we were so impressed with the mussels that we came back for seconds a couple of days later! We'll be back next time we're in Riga, hopefully Radeon will be behind the bar again to guide us through the beer selection!

Some of the best food and service in Riga !!

The name was Igor. Yes, he was the one who hosted us at the restaurant. :) To say that I was very pleased would be an understatement. Igor suggested that we have the mussels, which ofcourse is their speciality, and trust me it is indeed one of their best dishes. The portion sizes are good enough for 2 people (if u are having a beer on the side ;) ). We also got a complimentary shot of limoncello !! :) :) I certainly do recommend the restaurant and obviously Igor !! :) :)

Excellent food, superb service

The restaurant was cozy and clean. The Belgian beer options were massive and the food we ordered was absolutely delicious. What set the experience apart from the rest however was the service. Our waiter was polite, knowledgeable and professional while maintaining a sense of warmth and welcomingness. Many bars/restaurants in the area can make you wait, but here the moment you as much as thought about needing something, our waiter materialized to help. The food was also served very quickly despite us visiting at a very busy hour. Despite not being a traditional Latvian establishment, this was one of our favorite places to visit.

Best beer restaurant in Riga!

I've been visiting Bon Vivant for over 10 years and it's about time I gave this place a review. Food has been consistently great, which is an accomplishment in itself. Some of my favorites are: Grilled Octopus, BBQ Pork Ribs, Flemish Beef Stew and Salmon with fresh mango... In addition to great food this establishment offers 6 (Six!) pages, which equals to 128 of different types of beers (yes, counted just now). And what's more important this place has an incredible host, who is a tall guy named Andrew, who always ensures that you have a personal experience visiting this place and who knows a great deal about different beers. For me personally, this is the most important aspect which makes dining here an incredible experience. I love this place.

Google place to injoy

On Saturday, July 22, 2023, my wife and I were walking the streets of old Riga after a bad pizza experience (Sale & Pepe Ristorante Italiano). We came to the terrace of a Belgian beer bar to drink one. The waiter was very friendly even though we only took drinks. We got acquainted with the Menus and decided to eat at this place on Sunday 23.7. When we arrived at one o'clock in the morning, there was no traffic and we were immediately warmly welcomed. The service was excellent and the food was tasty, hot and good. Selection of portions was easy, because the allergens were well indicated. Thank you very much. Timo & Sirpa
