About
Located under the 12th Century Raekoda (Town Hall) building in the main square of Old Town Tallinn, Kolmas Dragon (or the Third Dragon) is a small medieval-themed tavern. This charming eatery with its beautiful-period interior is hosted daily by a group of petulant housekeepers whose job it is to entertain all-comers with their brusque and rude service manner. However this is all purely theatrical - a style that is closer to the behaviour that one would have received in the medieval ages. Specialities that are served include beef ribs, elk soup, savoury pastries, pickles from a barrel, teas, wines and the famous house beer. All those who enter should therefore be ready for not only tasty foods and beverages but also to some exceptionally entertaining service.

Small medieval themed restaurant. You have to order at the counter at the entrance, and bring the dishes to the table. We took 2 soups, 2 meat bakes, 1 beer and a water costing €23. Very good soups. The "lady" of the restaurant is very hasty, as the part of the medieval innkeeper requires.

After reading the reviews about this place I was a bit scared. I didn't want to go alone but my Estonian friend took me there. And we had a great time! I understood that the negative reviews are dome because people did not understand how the restaurant works. You just go to the woman, order your food, pay, get your food and go to any free table. There is no waiter service, no one will bring food to your table and they are not responsible for finding a free table for you. I figured out people get rude responses when they go and ask if there is a table for 2, 3 etc. Then the woman says I don't know or you have to look for it. Then people get offended and write a bad review. It is a simple, small place and very famous in the main square. They do not do reservations. You're also not supposed to be there eating for hours anyway because the menu is small. There is no cutlery but that was no problem because the soup bowl has handles for you to hold it while drinking the soup. However a spoon would have been helpful to eat the remaining minced meat in the bowl so you could take that with you. We paid 5€ per elk bowl soup. Near the cashier there is a bucket full of pickles and you can fish them out of the bucket with a long wooden fork. It is quite funny and can be challenging. We did it and got many delicious pickles. Our visit was pleasant. My friend taught me how to say "two soups please" in Estonian so I ordered the soups and the woman was very happy and nice. I think this is good idea.

This place was touted to serve genuine old town fare in an old town setting - as they say, it's all locally sourced! The furnishings and staff looked period enough and I settled for a "town guard pot" with pig's tail. I was intrigued by the barley used as a staple rather than potato. So there were pieces of smoked pork as well and a garnish to offset the delicious, strong tastes. It helped that I had a flask of hot water (for cold weather) for this. Have to say that the previous diner where I sat left quite a bit of crumbs - hard to see in the dark - so be aware!

The place was very suggestive, medieval style, as we enter the lady on the counter she ask us very rude what we were waiting for and why we were sitting over there, we said that we wanted to order something to eat and she said that we didn’t have manners, of course she said it in rude way. So we decide to leave without eating. Amazing place with big potential but she ruined that place, I hope for the place that she is not the owner

It seemed like the woman who was behind the counter made up prices in her head for the food. It was hard to argue because of no menus but she gave different figures to customers and asked all the foreigners for a tip but there’s no service to tip for. This place wasn’t always like this, it used to have a heart now it’s just mean staff and bad spirits all the way.

This is one of the best places I have visited for the medieval experience this is just like York or England UK where I have visted many times. We got recommended this place by the receptionist at our hotel. We was very grateful as we love our history and first time being here for a nightout . We wanted to enjoy the old town and the square for what it has to offer. We was very happy and pleased when we arrived to everything in the pub. The props , costumes even the candle lit everywhere. I really enjoyed the way the soup was served out of a huge bowl and we was only able to drink from the bowl no spoons or bread what an medieval experience. The pints of beer served in pots was something else !!! The service and the way they spoke to you made me laugh and smile. The famous soup was delicious and full of flavour we took many photos without the flash of course !!. And even enjoyed trying to fight with the pickles In the casket I got one !! . We loved it that much we went again the next day it was truly a beautiful experience and we surely we come back time and time again if open .

The place looks rustic, but that's about it. There was no menu. When we asked what they had for dinner, we were told something in an annoyed, rude manner. We chose the pork and when we opened it we discovered that it was pork tails. We explained to the lady that we wanted something else. She reacted angrily. She took the pork tails out of a drawer and put them back in there. Then we decided on two ox ribs. We paid €72 for two dark beers and the two ribs. We like eating out, but this place is very bad in my opinion. There are no prices on the walls either. Every question was too much. There is no service or friendliness there.

Medieval themed inn located in one of the corners of the ground floor of Tallinn Town Hall. The innkeeper was kind and helpful, the food was good and at honest prices, which should be eaten without cutlery, as was the custom at the time. Also nice is the possibility of "fishing" pickled cucumbers from a barrel next to the cash register with a nailed stick. To try !

My husband and I were a little reticent about visiting due to the negative reviews but were so pleased we did go! The lady who served us ( from medieval times) was very entertaining and very polite to us. We went for a bit of a selection to share , the food was great. I would recommend this to anyone who wants some quality food with quality history

It is a place that deserves a visit for its medieval atmosphere: dim candles illuminate the place under the Town Hall, rather abrupt costumed staff (but not with us), wooden tables and stools. Even the food resembles medieval menus: good and well-cooked meat soups. Although there is no table service and the price is dear, it is worth visiting for a quick lunch in the old town.

It is one of those places just worth visiting as it really has a character. The decor is medieval and highly authentic with funky crockery and mugs. The mulled wine really warms you and if you will pop in there during the evening, you will enjoy the candle only atmosphere. Do not forget to tip the landlady by throwing the Euros to the fishes mouth...

A real experience from start to finish Ill Drakoon is a real insight into the medieval past. Located in a 12th century town hall, to walk through the door is to go back in time. The room is lit by candlelight and the beer is served in jugs. The bar maid was in character as a bolshy bar wench. Hilarious, authentic and cutting. She rules the roost and lets you know about it. The elk soup was delicious and great value at €2.50. My partner absolutely devoured the enormous ox ribs. I also enjoyed stabbing pickles in a barrel (you can have as many as you like for free). If you're brave, try the dragon tears shot but if you're going to cry, make sure to go outside. An amazing, must do experience for the open minded traveller.

The queue is quite fast, the role of the waitresses is fun and they were kind to us. You order at the entrance, take your dishes and look for a table. To find a seat you have to ask one of the other tables to make room for you. Fairly low prices, very good beer, the pasty (filled puff pastry) were delicious and so were the ribs.

This is one of those 'must stop by's if you're in town. IT's easy to miss despite being smack in the town square, so look out for the dark doorway and tables. On our last trip, we popped in just to grab a snack to go because we couldn't miss it. The pies are flaky, well-seasoned, and cheap (especially for what you get). They have game, standard meat, and various veggie options (not vegan though, unless you include drinks or pickles). They are also open long hours, so good for people who keep weird schedules. Yes, they live up to the sense of humor they promise, but I never found it rude.

Excellent experience here. The hag who works at the counter is brilliant - plays the part perfectly and is hilarious. It’s like stepping back in time - no cutlery and terracotta steins for your local ale. Pigs tail, home made pies, elk soups and sausages. The restaurant is candle lit with lots of medieval decoration and things to look at. I would DEFINITELY recommend visiting while you’re in Tallinn, it’s directly under the Town Hall so you can’t miss it.
