I love this restaurant for a simple and understandable menu, the second dish is served with lots of vegetables, a piece of meat, and you can also choose a side dish with anything you want, baked potatoes or French fries or baked vegetables, in general there’s a lot of choice !!! A lot and tasty. Delicious bread and butter is served. Beautiful music plays in the background, in general we felt comfortable there, at home! Girls - waitresses are not intrusive and cute. Reasonable prices for Tallinn in a historical, central place, the restaurant is located just 100 meters away from the Town Hall Square, because the prices are very high in the Town Hall while the food quality is poor. In Munga Kelder everything is , big portions and excellent food !!!! Recommended !!!

I had some expectations coming here.
Cozy atmosphere, an interesting menu and a kind of "hidden gem" location all made a promising start.
However, the waitress was kind of uninterested in us and seems like she was quite unhappy in her work. Also our meal was quite dissapointing. My garlic bread was dry and my soup was nothing special.
I think you need to be lucky with the day you visit here.

Munga kelder is as its name explains a cellar restaurant. In the gateway at Vene 12 the door is on the left. Just inside the door take the steep steps down to the cellarwhere you find this very cosy restaurant. It is not so small as you might think. There are at least 3 chambers with several tables each. The service is nice and the food excellent. We always have their pepperbeef, because it is done by excellent meat and is very spicy if you like pepper. The house-wine (red) was also very nice and of course not expensive. In this chamber they also have an open fireplace giving you a nice atmosphere and some warmth in the wintertime. I recommend!

House beer is fine. But food came out so overcooked it was shameful- probably reheated. Also serving traditional (peasant) dishes trying to make them look more like molecular gastronomy results in some weird mixes- the sauerkraut in a pork and sauerkraut dish ended up looking like a teaspoon of shredded carrot...Otherwise fine atmosphere and service.

Very disappointing experience. We went to Munga Kelder specifically owing to the great location and athmosphere. We were there at lunch time, in a nearly empty restaurant. We were a group of four people, first one of us got the meal ca. 60 minutes after the order. Next two got theirs ca. 10 minutes later, and the last one ca. 5 minutes after this.
Firstly the speed of the kitchen is very slow, and secondly why do they bring the meals one by one with significant time in between. First meal was cold already when we started to eat together, since it was sitting 15 minutes in the table.
Secondly, the waitress started collecting plates from part of us when some were still eating. Very unprofessional.
No explanations or apologies at any stage and I frankly do not understand how the service was so appauling. When asked the waitress just said that they are too busy, with only two chefs in the kitchen. However, there was only four other people in addition to us in the restaurant. Never again to this restaurant. Very unfortunate since the surroundings are great, and it could be an outstanding restaurant.
The food itself was quite ok, but nothing to remember about.

After 35 minutes soup came, appetizers and salads arrived after 45 minutes, no apologies for delays. Food was definately nothing worth waiting for. Meat was dry, no salad dressing.

Very good restaurant, definitely not a tourist trap! Their bread is very delicious and my 2 Estonian friends agreed. The waiter told me that it is baked by them (not bought) but it is possible to buy it there. The dishes cost around 13-15€ and are big portions that will make one person full. One day I had the pork roast with mashed potatoes which was very good and the other day the solyanka soup. They were also super kind and served us when they were almost closing. Thanks to them we did not spend the night hungry after a long day of exploring (we arrived there at 10 pm). I recommend to everyone!

Wonderful location of the restaurant and delicious, cheap compared to other restaurants. We go to this restaurant when we really want to get enough, good quality food, a lot, we bake delicious bread ourselves and serve unusual butter, friendly girls, and very cozy, especially when the fireplace is burning. Love this place !!! Recommend!!!!!

It was interesting location so I wanted to go there at my last evening in Tallinn. It was worst decision. Food was between “nothing special” and “what the hell is that??”
My garlic bread was dry and had no taste and my fish soup was like it was cooked couple days ago. But the worst part was “signature dish” - munga roast. It was inedible. It was extremely dry and old.
The waitress and the host is the same person. And when you sit inside of the restaurant she doesnt see you and you can not call her. So I did not have any chance to say any complain because she sit near the entrance door.
After I finished my food no one came to me so after a while I left my table and walked to the entrance. I asked to pay for my food. She just took my card, no question about how was the food. She looked not interested and not cared.
I tried not ruin my last night in town so when I left I went straight to Olde Hansa.
There are so many good restaurants in Tallinn but Munga is really not included to this list.

So thrilled after yesterday's first visit to this hidden gem in old town! This is my first restaurant review and i write it because i just loved the food, great service and i hope somebody reading this will take the time and visit this place and truly enjoy. I ordered duck in red wine sauce with mashed baked potatoes, and feta salad a side. Everything was so tasty and fresh and perfect and i just couldn't believe it was so good. I was looking for a restaurant like that for a while now, a place where you can eat food that tastes like its made with love :D my friend ordered avocado shrimp salad served on a piece of bread and it was amazingly delicious too. I has also pina colada which tasted divine, and it was served in a huge glass with whipped cream on top. Yummy! Highly recommend this restaurant and going back there to try out their mussels next week!

Every time we come to Tallinn, we visit a restaurant, it is always tasty, satisfying and tasty. For every taste there are dishes. Friendly service, the girls are trying hard. The restaurant is crowded, so it is better to book a table in advance. In winter, a real fireplace is kindled. The most delicious bread, wherever I try. Recommended!

The place is really nice and cozy, but the service is awful. We waited over a hour for our food (they didn’t warn us about the waiting time first) and on top of that, they served me the wrong order. They did offer 10% discount when I complained but then they tried to charge us for the meal I received, but didn’t order (and it was more expensive). We then had to argue about it for way too long before the waiter gave us the right amount to pay.
Overall, food was good, but the service was terrible and definitely not worth the visit.
We do not recommend this place.

Food was cool, not hot or even warm. Mushroom sauce was one tablespoon with two peaces of mushroom. Salad was the same with starters as it was with the main dish, rucola and cucumber. The menu on their homepage and outside of the restaurant says that siders are 0€ but actually they aren't. We ordered Munga roast with garlic potatoes but there was no garlic at all. Parmesan cheese instead. One of our roasts was cut half! How does that roast even differ from pork fillet wrapped with bacon?
Waitress took some of our plates even when one of us was still eating. That was quite disturbing! Felt like they wanted to hurry us.. And not even once asked how was the meal, did we enjoy etc. We didn't feel welcome at all.

Walking along the streets of Old Tallinn, my friend and I went to a restaurant for dinner, despite the fact that the restaurant was full of guests, we were seated at a single free table, and a friendly waitress brought us a menu and recommended us wine for our chosen dishes. Everything was very tasty, we had a wonderful evening. Thanks to the chefs and waiters. Recommend to everyone!!!!đź‘Ś

I was attracted by the medieval feel and the fact that the prices are more decent than elsewhere in the Old Town. I had pork with sauerkraut and a beer.
The staff all speak excellent English and Russian, and they are very attentive. The actual food takes a long time to appear, but I assume that's because they are genuinely cooking it fresh every time. While waiting, you get absolutely delicious black bread and creamy butter, that tempted even me, a non-bread eater.
The pork was HUGE, serveds with sauerkraut, tomatoes on the vine, and a demi-glace of sorts. The sauce was tasty, but the size of the pork meant that the outer bits were juicy and the centre was very, very dry. If they really want to give tourists that much meat, maybe two thinner slices instead? For 15 Euro the amount of meat was very generous.
