About
The Laterna Baar in Haapsalu is located in a wooden house built in the 1920s. The bar on the ground floor in the courtyard of the building offers a wide variety of homely dishes. You will get good food and quickly. The inside of the bar seats 15 people, the terrace seats 20 people. Accommodation is provided on the first floor of the building.

Very tasty local food and very wide selection of dishes. And its really cheap. Best eating place in town if you like local cuisine. The bar inside the house is pretty small but luckily in summer you may eat in outside area.

Called in for a quick beer, and ended up having a snack. The bar is old fashioned and quirky in a good way with a large outdoor area. Not much English spoken, but not a problem. The food we saw coming out looked very good, but I don’t think they would get to grips with gluten free for Mrs Traveller b32.

It was a very pleasant experience, service was good. We felt cozy and warm in there, prices are lower than usual restaraunt prices. Food was good. Thank you for a pleasant evening!

Terrible food, we ate grilled meat - just “sole”, the meat was not beaten, not marinated.... a piece of pork (without veins) ... just thrown on the grill.
The chairs were dirty on the street after winter. Perhaps other dishes were normal, we didn’t try them. If you want to eat deliciously, go somewhere else

Don't take pelmeni - substandard frozen things cooked very dry. And tasted like fish - not in a good way. Schnitzel was good.

One of the oldest bars in Haapsalu since 1993. All the popular dishes from last century and very competitive prices. Reasonable selection of beers and drinks. Enough space for kids to run around.

We gathered friends pre new year's eve party, 6 couples and 12 kids :) Full house. Nobody complained about the food - so it is the best Estonians' evaluation :) Kitchen was amazingly fast, great drinks - what else you need... Feel the local atmosphere.

Everything there shows signs of wear. The furniture, interior, all the house. Even the staff. But it's actually not a bad thing. It's different. Place has it's own "vibe", has had it for a long time now. Kinda remains the same, when all the other places try to look better and more modern and more everything.. than they seldom are. I'we visited this place may times over the years. Food has always been good. Nothing fancy. But good. Most of the tourists will remain unaware of this place and mainly local people sit around the tables there. So yeah, I do not know, exactly why, but I like this place and the food they serve. And, it's rather cheap.

Good food well-prepared at a reasonable price. Recommended by Christina at the private Villa Hotel and it was even better than I expected BBQ meat with 3 different salads and potatoes cooked as I requested. Good service too. It has a nice outdoor eating area. A real surprise off the beaten path in town.

Had some Garlic bread (looks very different than e.g. In Germany) as starter and Pelmenis as main dish. The Pelmenis were great - just like my mom usea to make them.

We chose this place for dinner because all the other ones were closed. And we don't regret our choice. Food tastes like home made and the prices are much cheaper than in the old town.
Very friendly and good service!
Definitely would recommend this place to everyone. Will go back there next time when visiting Haapsalu!

I believe its most of local people favourite place to eat in when you are on your lunch break and don't have a lot of time to wait for a meal to get ready or when you miss some traditional dish you haven't had for awhile and you are too lazy to cook it yourself. Its a bit tucked away, so tourists wouldn't really find it that easily, but very close to old town. I always pop in when i visit Haapsalu, i just never had a disappointing meal or service there. And prices should be affordable for most families. Its just a great little place! Oh yes, forgot to mention, they do have couple of rooms too for the night to hire.
