We were able to get in without a reservation by sitting outside, but saw the couple sitting next to us barely touched their food and had the server take the plates away. We thought it was strange as we heard wonderful things about this place....About 30 mins later, we saw the same thing with the table on the other side of us. When we got our food, we realized the chicken was very bland, and the beef was insanely salty. There was no medium or thought put into these dishes it seems. They were just churning dishes out due to the high volume of guests. One server kept reiterating to people looking to get tables that there were no tables or reservations available because they are booked EVERY day, EVERY weekend, EVERY season. He said this to basically every family that asked to get seated. I get that the restaurant is popular, but it seems like people are just there for the atmosphere and not the food? So much food wasted from what we saw as all the servers rushed past us. Plus, ALL the servers are stressed out beyond belief being pulled in every direction. Our server was very kind, but you could tell he was stressed.More

Some described the goulash here as the best in Budapest. If that is the case then these are bad times in Budapest! Tough beef and veal with flavourless sauces. Boring. The sides were also lacking. Hot pickled peppers were the best part of the meal....Seems that the food is being "rushed" in the name of volume. Victims of their success? Not sure but they surely can do better than this. I think they need a holiday.More

I had to fight really hard for 4 stars here, the food was amazing and was 1 of the best in Budapest. Tender meat delicious sauce I couldn't fault much, I did get a very small bone in my lamb but didn't overly bother me...but however the service could do with an adjustment, it took at least 10mins to be served and when we finished the meal the server asked if we would like anything else and I had asked for the Bill he replied cash or card and I said cash we then waited 10 mins with the servers staring us out in which I had to ask for the Bill again.More

We ve seen this place passing by. If you want to eat here, you wil 99% need to book in advance hence the restaurant is full most of the time . We ordered the Goulash, beef stew and knuckle stew. The beef and knuckle stew...was somewhat above average but the Goulash was mostly average, condimente and water, potatoes carrots and meat . The prices are decent but theres a common thing in Hungary I guess, that the restaurant tips itself a certain % of the check . Clearly there should be hired at least 1 more waiter because the 3-4 ones couldnt manage the whole restaurant. On the menu there are only stews .More

Stopped for lunch. Typical Hungarian food in a really lovely setting with a buzzy atmosphere. We sat outside. Good atmosphere. We noticed this restaurant was always busy especially in the evening so booking would be advisable. The staff were very friendly and the menu typical...Hungarian. Both our dishes were excellent. This was probably our best lunch in Budapest. Excellent value as well.More

Excelent food. I asked for directions for the wine and the waiter was extremely helpful with the right choice for the food. The restaurant is not expensive considering the level of quality and service. We came early and were lucky to get a table -...so do your reservation.More

Very cosy, nice staff, delicious food. It's a very popular restaurant (understandable), they serve the best traditional hungarian meal I tried in the city. If you want to get a table it's recommended to reserve one before you go. The staff doing a hard work,...they are very professional and nice. Some food might be unusual for someone who tries at first time but it is not a tastless fast food. It's traditional hungarian. The texture and harmony of flavors is just perfect. Must try. Turogomboc is the best in town. My favourit main course is Paprikascsirke. Drinks are fantastic. Try Palinka or some Hungarian Wine. Don't forget to give a tip for the service. 🥰More

We visited this place at the suggestion of our son and SO who got the suggestion from a vendor at the market. As my wife is Hungarian and we prepare that cuisine often we wanted to see if the review/suggestion was true. YES it was....Only place that we found our entire two weeks there who had paprika on the table along with salt/pepper. Very good highly recommend it.More

Im writing this review after second visit to this place and I must say, this place is superb. We came here this time for dinner without reservations with little hope that they will have place for 4 people and we were lucky as the place...was full of people but one place for 4 was empty. (Reservation recommended) The stuff was really nice and immadietly gave us the appetizers, which were delicious and took care of us perfectly trough whole evening. The gulyash (soup) was one of the best Ive ever had and chicken paprikash definetly was the best Ive ever had. After that we still had a bit of a room for dessert so we ordered somloi halusky which were flawless as well. To underline the quality and taste of food, one of us was comes from family with hungarian heritage and was in ecstasy of the food served here. In the end, I must say that this is definetly one of the best places in Budapest where you can feel like you are in the most posh fine dining restaurant and still pay (very) reasonable price. Will definetly visit this place every time Im in Budapest.More

I was looking forward very much to eating here - great reviews and it’s always fully booked so I felt lucky to get a reservation after days of trying. But overall the experience didn’t live up to the hype. The food is ok - it’s...famous for traditional Hungarian stews, so expect large portions and lots of meat - but I felt it was nowhere near as good as meals we’d had elsewhere in Budapest. My paprikash was fairly bland and accompanied by a tablespoonful of wilted salad, which featured one half of a tiny cherry tomato. Service was efficient enough but unsmiling, they were very busy but we’d been to other very busy places where we still got a warm welcome. However, the puddings were sensational and the house wine by the glass was delicious and excellent value. It’s a lively restaurant in a interesting part of town so I’d come again but maybe mid-late afternoon when it’s less busy for wine and puddings not a main meal.More

After taking recommendations from plenty of reviews online, I took my guest in Budapest to this restaurant. Did not live up to the hype. The chicken was so dry I could barely eat it, same for my friend's veal, portion sizes are huge but the...quality is lacking. I recommend staying away. Many better restaurants for traditional Hungarian food!!More

A friend who lives in Budapest brought me. The service was welcoming, and the food was very good and cheap. I had the fish, a perch, and it was delicious. A good deal.

After a recommendation I decided to visit this restaurant. I was seated promptly, however as a solo diner I think I might have been temporarily forgotten before a waiter rushed over with a menu some 5-10 minutes later. I ordered the goulash soup to start,...which was a beautiful dish. Light, very well seasoned and with soft tender beef, I felt like I was onto a very good start. However the main of veal paprikash was very disappointing. The veal was extremely hard, and rather unpleasant at times, and the sauce itself lacked any substance or flavour. If the main had the same care of the soup, I would have given it a 5.More
