About
Robinson restaurant opened in 1989 on the small island of gastronomy at Varosligeti Lake, a few minutes on foot from Heroes' Square (Hosok tere). Over the past decades it earned popularity among the citizens of the capital as well as the expatriate community of Budapest. Numerous great celebrities - Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Robert Redford, David Copperfield and Larry Hagman to name but a few - have tasted the delicacies prepared in the kitchen of the Robinson. The environment of the restaurant is no less hospitable. The Museum of Fine Arts, the Budapest Zoological and Botanical Gardens, the Amusement Park of Budapest, the Great Circus and several other landmarks are located in Varosliget. Mediterranean environment, homely atmosphere, live Latin guitar music and an excellent kitchen guarantee a memorable evening spent here.

I recently went here with my friends for lunch and overall the food was delicious but the waitress was incredibly rude. At first she came to order drinks and we only wanted tap water which she completely turned her nose up at.
When the water came it was a tiny amount for four people and had no ice or lemon or anything !
When the food came it was really good - I had the salmon curry and my friends had the burger which they said was really good.
When it came to the bill there was a 13.5% service charge and we asked to drop it to 10% due to it not being very good - she was very passive aggressive about this and refused to let us drop it.
When we left we saw her talking about us to her colleagues - very unprofessional.
No apology for her attitude or ‘thank you for coming’ at the end.
Highly unprofessional behaviour which is a let down due to the food being of a high quality !

The best restaurant we’ve been to and a great time spent in this lovely place, quiet. Staff are amazing, and will carefully look after you to live a nice experience, advising you discover amazing dishes cooked by the chef. Dishes are beautifull and simply delicious.

We visited here after a day at the local Thermal Spa, and to be honest, we could not have faulted the food or drink one little bit
Staff were friendly. We'd a sharing tapas to start, followed by steak and venison and a single dessert.
Food was glorious, and the Hungarian red wine was so tasty.
Due to the restaurant being quite quiet tho, we did feel a tad rushed due to the speed bored staff cleared our table, otherwise it'd have been a 5/5

First of all, huge apologies to the restaurant and it’s team for such a delayed writing of this review. From the start the staff were great. Very warm and welcoming. A table of 8 of us with a range of tastes. Our main server was Bela (hopefully I’ve spelt that correctly) and was consistent with his service throughout, explaining everything for those that needed, as well as recommendations too. The location was great, nestled on the edge of the water with fantastic views and the decor was just right. Perfect for our birthday celebration with friends. All of the food was fantastic including the wine and drinks. A lovely touch was an impromptu birthday dessert with a candle, as well a special birthday song played on their PA. Nothing was too much and a great effort from all. I am sure we will be remembered for one thing alone when the team reads this…
when it came to the bill, we all attempted to pay with cards for 4 couples. The 1st couple was all fine. Then came the remaining 3 couples, of which we were all using HSBC cards and had repeated failed attempts on the machine. Very unexpectedly, HSBC had a major issue and were not able to pay by card. We called the bank there and then to which the bank were of no immediate help - a story for another review site! Anyway, we felt so embarrassed as we had to cobble together cash to pay the bill and literally only had the correct amount of Foreint between us all, and not even enough for a tip! Bela our server repeatedly reassured us that it was no issue and he was just happy that we had a great time and the tip was not important to him. Apart from saying that you must try this restaurant for the location, menu and service, I ask this Trip Advisor community of readers and reviewers of a very cheeky favour…please can somebody give Bela a tip from us English folk that left without tipping such excellent service as it is unlikely we will get the chance to ever do it! Thanks in advance everyone! 🙏🏽

Visited the thermal spa nearby then a short walk to Robinson through the park. I can imagine this place being very busy in the summer. Less than a quarter full when we arrived, quickly given a table then things seemed to slow down. Any time we needed assistance for drinks and food orders, the staff would look through you. food itself was all very nice, highlights being the goulash soup, risotto and whole dorado fish. trying to get the bill took a while too, staff are really not attentive enough here, especially for a quiet lunchtime.

We arrived during lunch hours and ordered some starters and main courses. After placing our order, we waited for about an hour without receiving any food. Finally, a server came to our table and had the audacity to ask if everything was OK. We responded by saying that we had not received any food and it turned out our order was never sent to the kitchen, so we had to reorder to the same waiter. After we had wasted an hour and a half, we finally received our food. The food was decent but overpriced.

Had a very pleasant valentines day experience at Robinson! I was recommended this restaurant by a friend who is from Budapest (we had booked prior to our holiday via email and Robinson was very quick to reply!) We were slightly worried from reading the reviews (some said it wasn't very tourist friendly) but I must say we had a very different experience. Staff were very welcoming, they helped translate items on the menu and were very accommodating throughout our meal. Food was fantastic! Prawn pil pil , steak and the floating island dessert ... delicious! Lovely restaurant , comfortable to sit and enjoy a meal. Lovely lake to walk around after dinner also. Restaurant was easy to get to using M1 line so don't let location put you off a must do visit to this restaurant, thank you!

One of the best experience in Hungary.
My daugters and me me where treated like princesses and my husband had his best stake in the country.
All the waiters were just really kind and helpful and we couldn't have been served with better care. 😊
There was edible portion on the plate and the quality was superb!!
Thank you for looking after us we had a great time!

Have been meaning to visit this restaurant for a few long time and this weekend managed to find the time . First experience was that the staff had no interest and very cold . However I was pleasantly surprised that the food and the service by two particular waiters rescued the situation . What an experience . The food was absolutely amazing , from the salmon cooked in a coconut milk , to the basic fresh chicken nuggets my kids ate. The view is stunning overlooking the lake and castle walls . I would highly recommend a visit to this restaurant . My recommendation to the management work on your welcome and you will be rated five star as everything else is just perfect . I will definitely be back .

This was our second time at Robinsons, after many years. Was so happy that the food is still as tasty as I remember. They do traditional classics very well - I am particularly keen on their clear beef soup (which some would know as beef consomme or even a bone broth). My partner had some of the more imaginative, modern dishes (like the wild boar dish), which was also super successful. Desserts were fab and drinks selection pretty decent. Contrary to some of the recent reviews, I found the service very warm welcoming. We booked the table in person and when we returned, throughout the evening, all of the staff were very friendly! There were also locals there celebrating a 50th birthday, which made the atmosphere even more homely and jovial. Cannot fault the location, next to the lake. Prices are perhaps above average for Budapest but not silly high. Recommended!

Every year we return to Robinson’s when we visit Budapest. We usually have dinner or lunch after visiting the Circus across the street.
The staff is always attentive, the lake view is very calming and the food is always very delicious. Being a Hungarian living abroad for the last 20 years I usually order typical Hungarian food. I highly recommend to start your dinner with a chilled Unicum shot followed by a Gulyas soup or Beef soup. The golden beef broth soup was extremely delicious with a real home made taste to it. My daughter loved the veal schnitzel and my husband enjoyed the delicious duck leg with red cabbage noodles. Till next time Robinson!

We might have chosen the wrong night?
We arrived at 8:30pm to be seated next to a fridge with meat. We ask to be moved to another table, so we go next to the entrance. There’s music in the restaurant and “bistro” chair.
We don’t really understand why we were there, when we had reserved for a table on the terrace…
The drinks take a bit to come, the food is good but very salty ( maybe traditional?). Before we are done eating ( after waiting 45min for the food) a waiter comes with a card machine to accelerate our departure. They take our plate, not yet empty… we ask to have a desert and they looked upset, they brought it and then we waited 30minutes to finally pay the bill…
Not worth the price and a strange mood in the restaurant… maybe it was the wrong night

Arrived at the restaurant at lunchtime today after visiting the spa baths up the road. We decided we would stop on our way back to have a drink and some food before travelling home. The hostess on the door welcomed us in and pointed us inside the place. As we walked through the door we were greeted by a blunt rude member of staff who asked if we had a reservation. Upon telling him we did not, he told us that we could not have a table. There was around 6-7 empty tables inside and space outside too overlooking the lake. When we questioned why the hostess outside had directed us inside he pointed out she is not the hostess for inside. Two more men came over and bluntly told us there was no space for us. Rude, arrogant and unhelpful staff. Do not visit this place!

We visited the restaurant as a group of six adults. We found the service food and drink excellent..The only negative was it is very expensive for what it is and also it seemed redicilious that we got charged for ketchup and mayonaise. We enjoyed ourselves, but i dont think I'd return.

Nice ambience, VERY rude staff. When I went in and ordered a table for one, I was asked whether I will be eating alone. When I simply said yes, the waiter replied “You shouldn’t be so surprised with basic questions”. I attributed this weird exchange to language barrier and decided to let it slide, and asked whether they have wifi. The waiter responded with “Why do you ask?” in a very annoyed tone. This would be unprofessional in any language, and completely uncalled for because I was extremely polite throughout. The restaurant was almost empty, but the waiters still ignored me for no reason, forcing me to ask them to come get my order multiple times
