This restaurant is a true, old school, honest hungarian restaurant, serving traditionally made hungarian classics without any moder twist or shortcuts.
Tasty meals, decent portions, good service and o.k prices.
We had dinner here last night. The place was recommended by the owner of the apartment we are staying in.It is close to the Parliament building.
When you go to a place to try the local fare, and it is mostly filled with locals, to...me that is a great sign. This restaurant serves very authentic Hungarian fare that the locals eat. It’s like a place where Grandma is cooking.
We asked our truly fantastic waitress, Christina, about local dishes. My wife and I tried the goulash and the port Paprikosh. I’m not sure that’s what it is called there but they were items 58 and 59 I think. Christina was excited to talk to us about the local fare and she brought out some extras for us to try. She gave us some homemade pickles and a small taste of a cucumber salad. Also a salty, spicy condiment made with paprika that she said we could add to anything.
The bread with the meal was homemade and so fresh. My pork dish was something I will likely dream about later. So rich and tasty. Good thing my Iwatch said we had walked around Budapest for over 10 miles before dinner, and I wouldn’t describe the meal as not rich, or as lite or low cal. I felt like we really picked the perfect little place to try local food, and Christina really made it so fun for us.
I will come back to this place again on my next visit to this fun city. I highly recommend that you give it a try.More
We took a plate for two and it was a super-size portion of food! Meal was greasy and salty and did its job: we got our stomachs very full. I am a good eater but even I couldn´t finish it. So you get a lot...of food for reasonable price. Service was friendly. There seems to be many locals eating there which is a good sign.More
This cozy bistro was just down the block from our hotel. We chose the hungarian stew with noodles. The stew was very flavourable and the noodle were a form of spaetzle. We washed it down with a draft hungarian beer that was also very good....The bill was modest and this restaurant is well worth a second tripMore
Following a positive TripAdvisor rating we are here on a cold night in January. We had experienced very poor customer service in other restaurants and bars. This was completely different. Friendly and helpful waitress, food served with a smile. Our food was excellent and very...reasonably priced. Highly recommended.More
This is clearly an unpretentious neighborhood restaurant also known to tourists like us — we heard both Hungarian and other languages spoken the cold winter night that we visited. I had a pork paprikas dish that was one of the most delicious meals I had...in Budapest — simply great. My wife had a beef stew that was also very good. The service was cheerful and efficient, my spongecake dessert was wonderful, and we left happy.
The restaurant can be hard to spot at night because it is right next to a Chinese restaurant with a bright illuminated sign. No illumination on the sign for this restaurant, but it's there, right to the left of the Chinese place.
Definitely worth the visit!More
